I walked in to be greeted by this awful smell. The place was dirty and smelled bad. My child waited 2 hours to be seen from her scheduled appointment time. While waiting my toddler wanted to play in the play area that was obviously disgusting with open wires. Trying to keep him by my side while waiting 2 hours for an appointment is absolutely ridiculous. When I asked why was the appointment taking so long it was explained to me they were short staffed due to the death of a staff members relative. I had to wait at least 3 months for this appointment and this week they claim to be short staffed. I would not take my dog here. The staff is respectful and friendly but there is no excuse for the service I received today. I would not recommend this place ever. read more

As an avid Yelper, I almost decided not to keep my appointment when I saw the 2-star rating this morning; however, my husband convinced me otherwise. My nerves were shot when I read we couldn't accompany children to the back but the very patient and gracious receptionist explained the reasoning and showed me where I could watch through the window into the exam room. Another mother checking in overheard my concern and chimed in with "Don't worry, mama, we've been coming here for years. You have nothing to worry about, they're great!" My daughter is easy peasy, like most firstborn children but my son is a force to be reckoned with for sure. Inquisitive, cautious, super sensitive to any little thing and incredibly strong. The tech was AMAZING with him! She showed every instrument, answered all his questions, and he followed her instructions. She was obviously very gentle since he didn't wriggle and fight her. She held his hand while the dentist did his part. She came out and explained next steps to me. He needed sealants and the tech who took over that part clearly deserves to be a saint. Her patience and kindness through the hour long struggle never faltered for a second. If she was frustrated, I couldn't tell. That helped me, as a parent, to continue on with encouragement and coaxing and we made it. Upon checkout, I realized I didn't have my FSA card and the young lady at the desk was so kind and patient as well while I tried to get the info from my husband. The scheduling lady was very accommodating with my requests so I could line appointments up with days off, etc. As I finished, my daughter ran up yelling her brother lost a tooth and placed it in my hand. All the ladies behind the desk exclaimed "Wow! That happened just now?" I showed her the tooth and one of them promptly ran off and came back with a cute little tooth container for tooth fairy. They enjoyed their prizes and had a good time in the play area while waiting for me to finish. I am so grateful to everyone in the office and this review is the least I can do to say thank you! read more

I've been coming to smile starters ever since I was a baby and their service is excellent. There were a few times where I've had to wait a little longer than usual, but I'm not going to complain because there were many people there. They always have smile on their faces and treat me fine. read more

So much I can say here but I will keep it short and to the point. Most of these type places are located in particular areas because they can get away with more and their prices are lower so people don't complain so much about their practices. They do accept most insurances including Medicaid which personally I believe is what keeps them in business. Parents are NOT allowed back with their children. Why? Who knows the actual reason but I recently had a child in my custody that was set up here and needed a tooth pulled due to decay. 10 minutes is all it took for them to go behind a locked door, with no windows and extract the tooth. They would not tell me if he was numbed or not but either way it wasn't long enough for it to take effect. My child came out in pain, crying with a blood soaked gauze hanging out his mouth. Now there is a window for you to look through and see some kids getting worked on but these are only cleanings and no parents aren't allowed here either. As for the staff, the young ones that escort the children are friendly but have no opinions about anything and won't hold a conversation if you paid them. The office personal is as rude as they come! They have no answers other than "it is our policy". It doesn't matter the question, that's the response. I guess if your looking for a cheap cleaning then this might work for you, of course I am unsure how thorough it is. But if your looking for something more... I would just recommend grabbing a hammer and pair of pliers and do it yourself. read more

They were planning to completely over treat my daughter, who has some unlucky teeth. It was recommended she get 5! crowns at 5 years old. I immediately got a second opinion where it was recommended she get 5 fillings, far more reasonable. The day I went it smelled like wet cat food in the office, and it was poorly decorated and the children's play area was dismal. The visit which was for X-rays and a simple routine cleaning took over two hours. If you can go anywhere else, I suggest you do. And get a second opinion if it feels like they are recommending a severe course of treatment. read more

I can understand this is an attractive option because it accepts medicaid, but I would look high and low for anything else before you go here or send your child here. I have had nothing but bad experiences. Considering they take patients up to 21, it seems like a good deal a first. But the staff is very rude and inconsiderate to both parents and patients alike, keeping in mind that most of those patients are small children. Parents are not allowed in the back, and their work, at best, is not even close to a real dentist. Every time I've been, I've always been looked at by some girl who is "interning" and that does not make me comfortable. And most of the fillings I've had, have fallen out from them. And the icing on the cake is that they filled two teeth together, causing a third cavity to form in the middle. This is not a nice place. These are not nice people and just because their front room looks really nice with painted animals and toys, doesn't mean that they are nice people. I have heard from several parents about teeth being pulled without properly numbing the child. I could go on and on about this place, but I would highly recommend going anywhere else, and doing your research on who accepts medicaid if that is your concern. It is not worth the pain that the child goes through, nor the sub-par answers these "nurses" and "receptionists" give to parents. read more

This review is for Dr Bates at the GREENSBORO office on Summit. How would you feel if your child came out bawling telling you that the dentist "sang" shut-up at them for part of their filling work? Or that your child was having trouble breathing through his nose and instead of listening to him, they kept loudly telling him to "breath through his nose" even though they have been told he has trouble breathing normally? It's COMPLETELY unacceptable as a professional to tell an 8 year old terrified child to shut up- I don't care how tired you are, if you sang it, or he was being hard to handle which I'm sure he was (along with other children) seeing how non- compassionate they are. I've been with him here twice before and while I wasn't hugely impressed it didn't go like this time. We couldn't afford to go to previous dentist this year (who was amazing and he did great with them btw) but just bc we are financially strapped and attend a high volume pediatric dentist office should we seriously expect our children to be told to shut up?? I was so angry I had to leave after I let them know I knew what happened, before I really lost it. It wasn't the office lady's fault, she was sweet and offered to get the manager but I was beyond livid. Where do I start? I use to go here when my children first started going to the dentist, then I left to go to a similar place near where I live only to be unhappy with their service, so back to Smile Starters we go. The first visit was a medicaid visit, so I really didnt pay attention to the charges and what not. The next two visits were on my dental plan at work, I was told my co-pay and promply paid up front at each visit. When it came time for the "last" visit the girl first tells me that I am maxed out for my daughter and I tell her I will look into it and call her back. Before I could call back she calls me and says "oh i made a mistake she is not maxed, she has x amount of dollars left. So then I say well lets wait until the 1st of the year when our benefits reset and do it then. Then she goes on to tell me that I have a balance of over $100.00. I tell her no I paid when I was there I am not sure what you are talking about. This goes back and forth for a few minutes until she pisses me off and I hang up. I go home and look at the paperwork that she gave me and lo and behold it has the date I had Medicaid on it. So now I am confused, what did you bill me for? I wait about a week and call back again and the person I spoke to said Oh i see what happened, we didnt bill medicaid fully. The she says let me see who handled this. I point blank told her that i did not want to speak to that girl again because she makes me angry. Guess what...she puts her back on the phone to tell me that I didnt have medicaid in July. WHAT??? how dare you tel me what I had when I know good and darn well I did, THen she goes on to tell me that the paperwork they gave me had not been up dated on that visit.yadda yadda yadda and I asked her what did that have to do with me and she had the nerve to tell me the bottom line is that you owe a hundrend and some odd dollars. That the estimate they gave me was just that an estimate and when was I going to pay it. I told her that I could see if the estimate was off 20 or 30 dollars but we are talking over a hundred AND why did my paperwork show the date that I had the medicaid visit for the work being done and not the current date of service. I also told her good luck getting that 100 dollars and to cancel future appointments that we would not be back I guess i was sadly mistaking thinking someone in Managment would call me to resolve this cause i have not heard a single word from this. However this is not over because I have reported them to my dental insurance as possible fraud. My son had a toothache during this bad weather and I found another dentist to take him..guess what? He had four teeth filled in November and was given an appointment in 6 months for a cleaning, how in the name of God does he have 2 more teeth that need to be filled between November 2015 and January 2016? Like others I have had a very bad experience with this type of pediatric dentist both in Greensboro and High Point. They are all the same do shoddy work and want to bill bill bill. Great dentist office! Love the new look. Employees(Receptionist) are always nice and helpful. Wonderful with responding back via telephone or email. My son loved his dentist and dentist office at first, but realize it was a problem when I could no longer go to the back with him which made him even more scared. At this office the parents are no longer allowed with their child when they are taken back. This concerns me, because I do not know whats going when he is back there and the nurses that bring him back to me "never" have any answers for me. If we could go back to how things were, I would have given 5 stars. read more
