Sounds non-professional and rude (especially if they claim themselves "friendly" on their website's homepage)? Well, this was how this dentist found appropriate to pay back to me. I was asking the clinic some inconvenient questions. It was just me, not my family members, but the dentist found appropriate to punish innocent people. Dr. Kobilov's choice of punishment might appear right for those who believe that some dentists are saint people who never make mistakes and therefore should never be questioned or criticized. My fault. I should have learned to behave better in this clinic. I made a lot of sins. Here they are: I allowed myself to ask the clinic questions that were related to their billing errors (duplicate billing/overcharging). I brought a third professional opinion into our discussion with the clinic, and this third opinion was not in favor for quality of work and billing at KMA Dental. I was not happy with the fact that Dr. Kobilov could unilaterally change appointment time and did not even bother himself about giving a call in advance in order to discuss with the patient whether this was acceptable or not. (This seems pretty disrespectful, especially if you read on the clinic's website or Google Reviews pages about their "friends and family" style or "respectful communication" practices). Going back to last treatment episode in this clinic I did not like that Dr. Kobiliv made anesthetic shot without patient's permission. Unfortunately, the above mentioned episodes happened in May of 2023 were not the first cases of disappointment with KMA Dental. Well, it is clear by now that Dr. Kobilov never appreciated honest and trustful discussion. No wonder he called our recent email communication around real issues as "condescending", "insulting" and "harassing" (read their Google Reviews response to my review). Summarizing this long review, I personally believe that patients do have rights to ask questions on treatment qualities, amounts billed, office ethics towards patients, and etc. but maybe I am exaggerating something. Anyway, if you are okay with any amounts billed; if you are fine with duplicate billing; if you are not mentioning second opinion in this office; if it is acceptable for you that the clinic can change your appointment time without asking your opinion; and if you never argue with this dentist at all you are probably guaranteed to be happy with their service.

Fortunately, I was prescribed halcion to sedate me before coming in (can you say, "can't walk without two nurses?"), and from what little I remember of the procedure, they were very good and professional (when I had to be stuck in the elbows four times trying to get a vein for my I.V., the nurse asked me what my favourite animals,colours, etc. were to distract me a bit and explained that they were having difficulty getting a vein (mine are tiny), although I was too zonked for more than one answer. Gillis said a friendly hello even though I was too sleepy to talk back, and likewise, the receptionists were all "All sleepy and ready, I can see!" with smiles while I was waiting (which wasn't long). They sent me home with percoset, extra gauze and care instructions, and since I hardly woke up until mid-afternoon, my mom and the nurse helped me into the car. No sutures put in, which is odd but I defer to their judgment, they do NOT skimp on anesthetic (it's been ten hours and I still can't feel most of my face), and they give you your teeth to take home (ewwwww. They told my mom it's because too many times they've had a no when asking, followed by getting a call the next day having changed their mind. The first thing I remember saying when awake again, was "Ew, you KEPT them?"). I look forward to being a patient of Gillis for many years to come, even not being in the same city.

Despite anything, I considered and still consider Dr. Kobilov not a bad dentist. In addition to…read morethis feature he used to have nice, customer-oriented KMA clinic. His former capability to find a good balance between readiness to help customers paying out of pocket and obvious necessity to make a profit has been appreciated a lot. It was sad to observe that over the years the business priority became the only one at the table... While I decided in 2022 to no longer satisfy the clinic's insatiable financial appetites, my family kept going to KMA Dental. Unfortunately, a "cup of patience became overflowed" recently when in unrestrained pursuit of profit the clinic charged $570 for two fillings (procedure code 23322). The price corresponded with the ODA Schedule of fees, but the problem was that it was hard to imagine that someone could do two complicated 23322 fillings just within 38 minutes, including the time for anesthesia/freezing. I have carefully examined a lot of information including a third party dental expert opinion and learned that a single 23322 procedure required at least 20-30 minutes. This research brought me grounds for questioning Dr. Kobilov's office on whether there was a mistake and whether this was a single 23322 procedure or two different, simpler and less time-consuming ones. It also should be noted that the $570 amount was not discussed in advance. Before the treatment the doctor told that he had time for one tooth and one filling this day, so two teeth and two 23322 procedures on the bill became a first surprise even before I started to research on what the 23322 procedure was about. It also should be noted that Dr. Kobilov didn't ask and did not receive the patient permission for anesthesia that he did. I don't know whether this anesthesia was aimed to make the patient not feel how many and what kind of fillings were really done or not, but situation when you do not discuss such important details with your patient is not normal. In addition, I do not believe it is ethically correct that Dr. Kobilov feels okay to change patient appointment time without even discussing this change with a patient. No surprise that I have started to express appropriate questions in regards to all these misunderstandings happened in May of 2023. This is normal when you have concerns and want to address them, isn't it? Well, the office called my concerns "condescending", "insulting" and "harassing". Although it was me only who was posing inconvenient questions to the office, Dr. Kobilov made all my family members a hostage of his anger by dismissing them from the clinic's patients list. Decide yourself how nice or professional this action was. Honestly, I do not think you might have any problems with this clinic as long as you ready to pay as much as they ask, ignore customer-unfriendly episodes, and never bother them with potentially inconvenient questions. He has such skill, and he and his staff are so caring, so quick to ensure you remain relaxed and comfortable in the chair. I also see his skill in how quickly and comfortably I recover from these procedures. My 86-year-old mum and my daughters also go him and are equally pleased. I highly recommend KMA Dental and Dr. Kobilov!

He has done nothing in regards to my gums or recommend any specialist in this regard, but has taken my money for years. I thought this was odd, so I contacted my insurance to verify and they stated that the pricing was wrong and I should have it mostly covered. With all this complication I decided not to do my procedure here and went elsewhere only paying $40 out of pocket there. Fast forward two months from my evaluation at Black River I received a bill. Again, I have insurance so why am I being billed the full amount? Not just that but this bill is due in just 4 days after I received it! I contacted their office and they said "your insurance was maxed out". Impossible, because it was my first time using it. I contacted the insurance and came to find out they never submitted my claim to the insurance and not even sure how'd they know if it was maxed or not if they never submitted anything. My issue is currently being handled but I find this extremely odd to be asked to pay the full amount with such a close due date after receiving it.
