I would never recommend this clinic, especially if you value patient choice and respectful…read moretreatment. Before my daughter's first dental visit, I specifically called and asked if we could opt out of fluoride and X-rays. I was told this could be discussed with the doctor. Their intake paperwork even asks if you consent to X-rays, and I clearly marked no. I thought there would be a conversation. Instead, there was none. Dr. B. Gene Whitehead came in and immediately told me that if I refused X-rays, we should just leave, because they would not provide any care -- not even a simple cleaning, which I was prepared to pay cash for. I even said I would pay for the X-rays but did not want them performed, and the response was still, "No cleaning without X-rays." Dr. B. Gene Whitehead spoke to me in a dismissive and condescending way, as if patients have no say and must just obey whatever he decides. This was supposed to be my daughter's very first dental experience, and instead, I walked out feeling completely humiliated. I'm not someone who cries easily, but I left in tears from how belittled and disrespected I felt. That says everything about how poorly the situation was handled. A professional could still decline to provide a service, but with kindness and respect -- which was completely lacking here. I also want to clarify that this is not a holistic or patient-centered practice, despite how it may be recommended. They push X-rays and fluoride, and Dr. B. Gene Whitehead was very old-fashioned in his approach, showing no willingness to listen to patient concerns. Thankfully, I have already found another dentist who was happy to see my daughter for a cleaning without forcing X-rays. So yes, it is possible -- and patients deserve the right to choose what is best for their children. Overall: rude, unprofessional, misleading, and a complete waste of time.

The technician that took her back was FABULOUS she took the time to explain every single step and tool to my daughter BEFORE doing it, which is exactly what my daughter needs to feel safe and secure in new places. I would recommend them to EVERYONE with Littles needing a great introductory experience at the dentist. Tooth Caboose in Plant City was the location we visited.

Amazing staff, caring, supportive, understanding, and treats you like family. Everything you could…read moreever hope for in a pediatric dentist and more! I came to this dentist for a 2nd opinion on my son having to get his tooth extracted due to a fractured root and I am so glad that I made that decision. Although my son did end up having to have his tooth pulled, the experience was so much better than what we could have had at the first dentist that we had seen. I was told at another dentist that my son would have to be put to sleep for his tooth extraction and that I would not be able to go back with him before he went to sleep. Needless to say I was a little taken back seeing as my kiddo is only 2 and a half years old. I decided to get a 2nd opinion and came here. I was so impressed with the staff and Dr. Davis and her great bedside manner. Dr. Davis was extremely patient and reassuring, explaining that she would be able to extract the tooth using only local anesthesia and that it was not necessary for my son to be put to sleep for such a short and simple procedure. I was also able to stay with him the whole time he was having his tooth extracted which made me feel so much better. If you need an amazing and trust worthy pediatric dentist for your little one. Look no further! This place is amazing. Thank you all for everything.

We were deeply disappointed in Dr. Maggie and her staff…read more As soon as we walked we were told that they do not accept insurance of any kind. The price was $279 for the visit but they will push you to sign up for their membership. Which is essentially a subscription program to lock in monthly revenue. All this fine it is a business. I don't fault a business for trying to be profitable but we were there specifically for a lip tie procedure for our daughter. We have a dentist that accepts our insurance but Maggie was recommended by our pediatrician because we were told she specializes in lip tie procedures. As soon as her staff realized that we were not going to be monthly reoccurring revenue but one time customers the $279 turned into over $600. It was one excuse after another. This is an emergency exam, plus a preliminary exam, plus the actual lip tie procedure..... Keep in mind the 2 exams that were over $450 took 5 minutes in a chair with no equipment other than Dr. Maggie's hands and a iphone to snap a couple pictures. I paid it out of pocket because I wanted to do what I thought was best for my daughter. We realized how incredibly deceptive this entire experience was the next day when we saw our dentist. He apparently knows Dr. Maggie because they went to dental school together. She flat out asked us where we were currently going and knew that our dentist accepted our insurance and performed lip tie procedures but purposely omitted that information while racking up the bill by 220% from the original price we were told by the front desk. When we told our Dr. how much we paid for the procedure he was furious. He said 30 minute exam plus lip tie procedure should not even come close to the price we paid. In our experience they didn't care about our financial situation or the well being of our family only how much money they could get from us in that one visit.

The new dentist(s) may be worthy of five stars also but I don't think it's fair that they "inherit" Dr. Ortiz's ratings. They should be required to start from scratch. I'll start by saying I don't tend to frequent anything other than privately owned and operated dental offices. Big corporations usually rotate dentists in and out so you can never develop a relationship with them. I knew Dr. Ortiz had sold his practice but was still working at Smile Design. However, They did not forewarn me prior to my last appointment approximately 6 months ago that Dr. Ortiz was no longer there and I'd be seeing someone new. The whole staff with the exception of 1 person is new. Consistency is what I absolutely LOVED about Center for Smiles. The staff never changed, they all knew you by name, and the atmosphere was like a family. The new staff couldn't even add up my total charge correctly. The receipt showed $86 but she charged my FSA card $88 & it took weeks to resolve getting that $2 put back (because you know an FSA don't play...they need to verify down to the last penny!) Ugh, I hate when a provider who was absolutely perfect either relocates or retires. Anyone have a dentist they love that you want to recommend??
