I unjustly lost my job yesterday with no warning or my pay and severance package. So I came to the restaurant last night with my in laws who wanted to cheer me up. I'm new to the area and had been wanting to come here for awhile since I heard the food was great and the place had been done up. It looked gorgeous inside but I'm never going there again.
I ordered ratatouille as my starter because I'd never had it before... after everyone was about to get their orders, I was told they were out of it. I ordered something else. No big deal.
When our mains came out, they brought me the completely wrong thing. They eventually brought my gnocchi but instead of zucchini (the reason why I ordered it), it had spinach. Which I'd already ordered as a side. When I complained, they took it away then came back later to say they were out of zuccini. So instead of telling me this after I first ordered, the cook decided that since I ordered spinach as a side I wouldn't notice it in my gnocchi?
I ordered mushroom saffron risotto and I was told it'd come out after another table's order was done. Uh, shouldn't mine be first? I was too beaten down to say anything but I shouldn't have had to. After everyone was finished, my risotto came without mushrooms. I just asked for a box. I had a nice time with my family but seriously?
Even though my family received their food, much of it was burned or missing ingredients. Two people ordered black pudding with chorizo but the chorizo was completely black from being so burned. They couldn't eat it. When they complained, they were brushed off.
Most of the party ordered steak and their sauces (bleu cheese, peppercorn etc.) came several minutes later and 2 were wrong. Plus, their steaks were cold by the time the sauces arrived. The restaurant wasn't busy. There were 6 other people eating and two servers.
The Smelter's comped my meal but considering the service, the fact they were oblivious to the fact they were out of key ingredients, and that they apologised to not me but my husband, I'm even more upset.
Way to kick me when I'm down, Smelter's Arms. read more
