Wow. Condescending, aggressive, short-triggered, and threatening "discharge". To the owner: what you said did not make me feel very happy, made me feel weary about my daughter being there, and I believe you can treat your customers better. I am a brand new customer, and here is my very first interaction with the owner: To give information on our parenting schedule, I asked (to her assistant), "can you write down your email for me to send to?" The assistant was happy to help and went to a surface to write it down. Owner needlessly replied: "[the email] is very easy, you can remember it. Your daughter kind of goes to Smarty Pants Preschool, it's just Smarty Pants Preschool @ (whatever popular email domain here) -- I would think you would remember that." Business Owners: how do you expect a parent to respond? My response, "I might not remember that. You don't have to judge me." She gave me an aggressive, glowing stare. And i watched her stare, waiting for what see had next to say or for the assistant to return. Then she says slowly, "Nnooo..." I asked to the assistant (who I thought was this lady's manager, "I would like to make a complaint on your worker here." (She was also very inappropriate with me on the phone yesterday, too, but that's a different story. Hey Smarty Pants! You have my permission to publicly release that phone call and of course sensor out my daughter's name. You can keep my name. I don't think you'd ever want that phone call to represent your company, to be frank!) She jumped up with excitement and said, "I'm the owner, very nice to meet you!" (Her hand extended to shake my hand.) -- I later asked for more information, but ya know what? I'll just look at sunbiz.org and see if there's another party I can send a copy of this to. I politely refused the condescending hand shake. It's a form of abuse, it's unnecessary, and I'm sure any customer would agree it is not a way to be introduced as the manner she presented. And I'm not interested in her ego--I'm interested in my daughter being in a safe, fun, abuse-free environment and what I can do to make the best of the day care. After that, she said something around the lines of her walking to the door to discharge my daughter. She presented to me the problems she had with: - my ex yelling at me outside of the establishment - she felt that we were blocking staff to leave. I double checked, and my ex and I were at the sidewalk clearly away from obstructing the door. - she had an issue with me calling the establishment about 5 minutes after that scene to make sure they had my information for future calls. And she was quite rude... I let that slide figuring, "this poor lady probably had a hard day." (The photo is when I called them and how long the conversation lasted -- so the owner can see after she claimed I can't be "calling at 6:15".) - she expressed that she said "no" because I had "inappropriately stared at her". We ended on a better note after the short talk and me receiving what I came for. On that ending, I said, "thank you. I will let you work on what you need to work on for yourself, and I am open to take any suggestions from you." Her reply, "*I* don't have anything to work on." Here we go again! I told her again what I had said, maybe a little differently, ("...you work...for yourself...and I am open...suggestions from you.", etc) -- and she appeared less triggered that time and seemed to get that I'm just a father looking to make sure they have info they need and I do, too. She had no suggestions for me. She extended her hand for a handshake, and I respectfully refused. I get it, some people get hurt by that, but I still have to respect my space for personal touch. I reframed the situation for her: she is basically asking for a touch, and I am not consenting/agreeing to it right now. As her being the owner of the establishment, I am happy to shake her hand when she has either resolved the emotional issues that she allowed to become associated with me, or when she simply disassociates those issues from me. For now, we agreed to set this instance to the side, and I will be listening to my daughter *very*, *extra* closely to be sure the owner's stress responses are not transferring to her staff and then transferring to my child. We are new there, and I have kept my daughter there because I do not believe that will happen, and so far I believe she is safe and will really enjoy her time. The owner then (at the end) helped me remember the situation with my personal/family number. My next step is the Better Business Bureau. I thought also to go to the land lord since we have nearly a 10 year relationship (just as long as smarty pants does), but I don't see how Smarty Pants can learn and grow from talking with the land lord. The land lord and I both understand that businesses have problems, owners get stressed, and people tend to allow the hurt of their past to make them too biased for their own good. read more

Hello my name is Elizane and I'm doing this post to talk a little bit about such a bad experience I had with the day care called SMARTY PANTS. My daughter started at this daycare on the January 2017 and I've never had any problems with the institution, but this past Wednesday when I went to pick up my daughter, she told me that the teacher slapped her so I went there to get more information about what happened and why my daughter was saying it and if that really happened with my daughter. So I spoke with the owner and she denied everything and said that she was always there and she never saw something like that happening. So I told her I wanted to check the cameras to make sure it didn't happened and she told me I could see the cameras on the other day at morning time. So at the other day I went there as she told me I could see the cameras, when I arrived there she started screaming and offending me verbally saying that I was doing accusations against the school and I told her that all I want is just to check the cameras só at the end of all she kicked me out of the daycare and also said that she doesn't wanted even my daughter there anymore! Is very disappointed her attitude she lost her mind so at the end I didn't watched the cameras and I don't know what happened to my daughter at this daycare. THIS IS AN ADVICE TO ALL PARENTS ABOUT WHERE DO YOU PUT YOUR KIDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. So I'm going to get my rights because what she did is wrong. read more

Could not be happier with my experience @ SPPS. The wonderful staff takes care of my children with the kindness, patience and nurturing that I thought was only possible at home. Not to mention these women also find a way to teach 1 year olds sign language, Spanish and countless other things that I didn't think would be possible. My 3 year old son speaks so well and I always say that it is due to his experience here. And on top of this, my kids are always clean, the place is spotless and they are taking safety measures seriously which is SO comforting right now. At first the school seems great, well I fortunately had the opportunity to have an inside look into the facility in Sarasota due to the fact that my Fiancé was also an employee here. Now Danielle the director at this location has a great relationship with my fiancé up until she had to other choice but to leave due to transportation issues and she had the nerves to tell the staff she fired her when in reality she quit. My fiancé wanted to stay because she knew Danielle needed the help and here's why. She hires anyone from anywhere, no experience needed. My cousin got hired there as well and we have no clue how. In my cousins classroom she said the room was filthy, kids throw their toothbrushes all in one bin, the teacher wasn't attentive enough, she said it's like most of the people there are there for a job and that's it. They're short staff most of the time and some teachers will have anywhere 15-20 students on their own! It's even been brought to our attention that a 16 year old is in there as a assistant. The list goes on. When my fiancé went on interviews, and told them about her last job most of them knew about the establishment. They're even referred to as "the smarty pants sisters" who don't know who to treat their employees or run a business. Please take caution prior to leaving your child in the hands of these ladies. If you are looking for a school that will love your child as much as you do as a parent, then Smarty Pants Pre-School in Sarasota is the place! I can't say enough wonderful things about this school. It is clean, the classrooms are bright and stimulating, you hear laughter of the staff and kids as you walk down the hall, it is all around top notch! My son started there at 12 weeks old and we couldn't be happier! I have toured every daycare in Sarasota County and as soon as I toured this location and met all the staff, I knew in my heart that this was where I wanted my son to be. They love on him and hug on him as if he were their own which is important to me. All of the girls are amazing and they handle any issues swiftly and professionally. They have cameras throughout the facility so you can check in on your child anytime throughout the day which was also very important to us. The teachers do an amazing job and my son loves to show us what he learned each day. You can tell that the staff there truly love what they do. My son is just about to graduate from VPK at Smarty Pants, the University Parkway location. I could go on and on about how much I love this school and how blessed we were to find it. The facility is always super clean and the teachers are wonderful! It can be a lot caring for a class of 4 & 5 year old's, both of the VPK teachers do an amazing job at keeping the kids actively engaged in learning but also having lot's of fun! They do an amazing job at keeping order in the classroom. My child is a bit on the wild side, so finding teachers that could be so loving yet also know when to be just the right amount of firm to keep my son from getting himself into trouble (daily) was so important to me. He has grown so much this year not only academically but socially and emotionally as well. From the moment I walked into Smarty Pants with the fun under the sea murals painted on the walls and met Danielle and Natalie, the School directors who run this amazing family owned and operated preschool, I knew this was the place for us. They are so warm and inviting. They truly care about your child, their needs and academic growth. The education my son received at Smarty Pants in my opinion is head and shoulders above the rest. I have gone through a VPK program at another school with my older child, and in fact you can't even compare the quality of education between the two. My child comes home from school always telling me fun facts about states and blows me away with how many sight words he knows. My son actually wakes up on the weekends bummed because he doesn't get to go to school that day. We are truly going to miss this school and the staff. If you're looking for a great education for your child and want to leave them with people who will genuinely love them like they were a part of their own family than look no further! *** (On a side note) New mothers looking for a place for your baby or younger children. This can be such a stressful and anxiety filled decision on where to leave your child. I know because I went through this myself. All of the classrooms at Smarty Pants have cameras in them! You can look in on your child every day! I have never had a problem with streaming and enjoy getting to sneak a little peak. I can't tell you how many times I have walked into the school and see the directors themselves snuggling a baby with extra love. "I love you" and daily hugs are the norm here. I have said more times than I can count "I wish the mothers could see how loved their babies are when they are here." Clean, friendly, polite and safe... you're making the right decision!! read more
