We've been with SmartVet for a while, but they recently redesigned their website and had a personal phone number unaffiliated with the practice set up to text for appointments. I inadvertently sent our personal information to a very frustrated stranger who said they'd received at least 8 other messages containing personal information from other patients. On top of this, they're now requiring a deposit for Saturday appointments because they've had a few no-shows. Cool story, but how about you punish the offenders with a no-show charge, not the loyal customers who have never missed any appointments and have likely paid thousands of dollars for your services over the years. The practice manager Liz messaged me apologizing for the website issue, but then doubled down on the deposit requirement by telling me that she knows "change is hard." That level of arrogance and condescension is sadly becoming business as usual these days. We're not inclined to entertain that level of foolishness. While we've never had any medical complaints, these administrators seem to only speak one language. Money. Plenty of other local vets happy to have our business. read more

Been in town for 3 days when my dog got a serious bloody hot spot that required a vets attention. Called 5 vets in town .. none would take her or any new clients. Stressed out, I walked into Smart Vet and reported my issue. A prayer answered!! They fit my dog in and cared for her immediately ! The staff was so professional and compassionate. The office staff was efficient and quick. The communication between my home town vet and them instantly. The vet herself was awesome! Loved pets and was so great with mine. The treatment was perfect. I appreciated that she listened to my concerns and addressed the immediate needs. Hands down 10 out of 10 stars!! If I lived in this town Smartvet would be my vet. Decided to move my pets to a place with more respectable staff. Asked for records and I got pages and pages of every communication between them. Want to see where they bad mouth customers? The office manager called me difficult in one and a staff member named Tori, lies quoting me saying "whatever whatever whatever" and that I hung up abruptly. This is all after 3 years and thousands and thousands of dollars spent at their office. This is how SmartVet talks between their office about customers. Disrespectful and pathetic. read more

I brought my cat in to get her toenails trimmed the first time & had I written a review then, it would've been a 5/5. That time, two employees came in the room, one held & soothed my cat & the other quickly trimmed her nails. It was fast & easy. However, the second time I came in, I was put in a room & they took my cat away to a different room to have her nails trimmed. It was very odd - I've never had an experience like that at any vet - & my cat gets anxious when I'm not around. I should've stood up for myself & asked them not to take her away to a different room, but it all happened so fast & the employees were very "matter of fact" about it all - it made me feel kind of stupid & uncomfortable. Also, the employee who took my cat out was going to just carry her there without her carrier - out into the main hallway & then into whatever room they ended up taking her to. Thankfully, I insisted that she use the carrier because I know my cat & she would've squirmed & scratched her way out of her arms & ran off to some corner in the building to hide or outside. I definitely will never go back after my most recent experience. read more

I had to put my cat down and it was a good experience so I decoded to make an appointment to confirm my other cat was healthy. I explained do to my job I could be called out of town at anytime. When I called to confirm the appointment a week later I was informed there was a 50 dollar fee that should have been paid. A week later I had to cancel and i get a text saying there is now a policy cancelation could revoke my 50.00. I informed them I was not explained that and was informed just do not cancel again. I rescheduled and someone else tells me my 50 was revoked and it was a mistake. I had to dispute the charges. read more

I absolutely LOVE smart vet and especially Dr. Peterson. I have a very high energy Labrador and had recently moved back to Bloomington-Normal so I thought home vet visits would be ideal. It was awesome! Dr. Peterson and a tech came to my house to do a wellness exam and vaccines about a year ago. The process was amazing and my dog loved it! Unfortunately about 6 months ago my dog ate her plastic dog food scoop and was not having any bowel movements and puking. I called smart vet and they were able to see my dog the same day in their office. Their office visits are as equally as impressive as their home visits. My dog ended up needing emergency surgery to remove a blockage in her stomach and this surgery requires 2 vets to get everything out. They took great care of my dog and sent me home with everything i needed. They even called to check on my dog in the days following. They definitely saved my dogs life and i trust them 100% with any care for my dog. read more

SmartVet comes to you! Yes folks, this means no need to chase your cat down to get them in a carrier. My cat can sense when something is up and will bolt. Trick was on her! They ask that put your animal in the bathroom 10 minutes before they arrive. Done! You also have to collect a stool sample. Worst part about it. Bleh. The vet and her assistant were very nice. The vet explained everything clearly and concisely. They said my cat was very agreeable which surprised me. Normally she freaks out about new people. The whole experience took about 15 minutes. My cat got vaccinated, an exam, and an a 3 month flea application for around 182 dollars. Very reasonable. While I was at work the next they left a voicemail letting me know the stool sample came up negative and to call them with any questions. I highly recommend them. read more

Its times like this we need a golden star option! We were in the market for a new vet and came across SmartVet. We could not be any happier with the level of care they provided for our cats. We called when one of our cats was sneezing non-stop and we were worried about an infection. They were able to fit us in right away and knew exactly what was going on with our cat. They did a great job explaining to us what was going on, asked a lot about his history to rule out more serious conditions, and did a great job handling the cats. Our previous Vet was fantastic but our cats always got SO stressed at the office. They did not have separate dog or cat hours or days. There were days we would have to leave them at the vet's office all day (dental cleanings, annual physicals) and the constant barking from dogs, smells from other cats, and being locked in a kennel all day really took a toll on them. I cannot express enough how much better this situation was. Both cats hardly even noticed the vet was there. They got checked up, looked over, took some vitals, and both cats were calm the whole time with no added anxiety. They even had catnip for the cats after which they LOVED. For us this was the right move (both cats were rescued from very unfortunate circumstances and can get stressed easily) and we STRONGLY recommend you do yourself and your pets a favor. Take the stress out of vet visits and call these guys today :) read more

Response to office comment: NO YOUR INFORMATION IS INCORRECT ! When Dr Chase presented the estimate I clearly stated that if that is what we need to do he could proceed but I would have to set up payments like last time. When Dr Chase called in the afternoon to update me he said the emergency clinic was closed but the office was willing to keep the cat overnight and stated how much it would be. Again I stated we would only be able to pay a portion and need to make payment arrangements. At this time Dr Chase stated he would have to talk to someone. When he called back he stated he could not do payments like last time and that I needed to come pick up the cat he would have the IV and catheter taken out so he was ready when I got there. When I arrived Dr Chase brought the cat out to me. I asked if we could at least get some pain medicine and antibiotic like last time and I was told he could not add anything else to the balance. Dr Chase told the gal at the counter I was making a payment on the balance which she took and gave me a receipt. Dr Chase told me someone from the business office would call me about payments for the balance. Have not received a call and have been too angry and busy taking care the cat and family since the cat has now died to call them. So, No I did not refuse to pay, I'm still waiting to hear from you. read more

Dr. Burks is wonderful. We recently had to come to grips that our beloved dog was very sick. Dr. Burks understood that we cared more about the dogs comfort and not wanting any suffering than simply removing symptoms that were distressing to us. She also helped our last dog transition, both times were after hours and she was willing to help out so much. I will always be suggesting Dr. Burks to anyone who is looking for a vet. read more

I was very pleased with their service, compassion, and professionalism. We had made the very difficult decision our 16+ year old cat needed to be put down. He was very sick but I knew taking him to our regular vet would be very traumatic, the car ride, the office, the carrier, etc. I wanted him to take his last breaths at home with all of us holding him. Dr. Laura & Larissa came to our home and were very kind and compassionate. Exactly the experience I was hoping our family would have and my beloved kitty was first sedated. There was no rush afterwards and they left and sat in the car so we could have our final moments with him. A very nice card arrived today expressing their sympathy, a nice touch. Recently I found out about Smartvet and the fact that they make house calls. Since I had two dogs and two cats that needed to be seen, having a veterinarian come to my home instead of trying to get that many animals into their office sounded intriguing. I found out that several local rescue operations, and several pet owners that I know recommended SmartVet very highly. Dr. Walter came to our home with her veterinary assistant and provided wellness exams and vaccinations for our pets. She was highly professional, very easy to talk to, very good with all of the animals, and took time to answer all of my questions. I appreciated the fact that she followed up the next day by text, and made it easy to contact her by phone, text or email with any veterinary needs we had. I was also surprised that their fees were competitive or better than most other offices in town. Dr. Walter has since brought a second veterinarian into the practice. Dr. Burke is also very kind and professional, and she also offers pressure point services for physical and psychological healing.
