After scrolling through pages of reviews, I found May-Rah-Kee. After reading through reviews, scrolling through pictures, reading through their website and trolling their hashtags on Instagram, I decided to give them a try. They seemed like a good group of women who enjoy what they do and know how to have fun, and I mean really, if you're going to spend 2-4 hours looking like a sandwich covered in foil and plastic wrap, you should be with people who make you comfortable and know how to laugh. My first visit was in November with Stephanie. Being a new client, she listened very carefully to my hair woes and goals. She then took a conservative approach to test out the waters and give my hair a chance to outgrow my "at-home trims" that left some very awkward lengths. Her color work was phenomenal - the education I received on the Florida water vs hair color was life saving - and cut lasted well past what should've been my next appointment (I'm terrible at going when I should and always wait until my hair way to outgrown). My next visit was in late February with Stephanie again. She took the time to give me a very fun cut and yet again, amazing color work. 3 hours later, I'm more in love with my hair than I ever have been. She gets me and has the skill to make my hair match my personality. I enjoy understanding why things are done a certain way and I love listening to people who are passionate about what they do. Stephanie takes the time to explain every snip of her scissors and stroke of her dye brush, into such depth and excitement that you can see how much she loves what she does. She also takes the time to explain how to repeat her style at home. I used to own my own business and work in a service industry and have for many years so perhaps I notice more (and might be a little more critical than others). The attention to detail is above and beyond what can ever be expected. Firstly, the salon is always clean, the bathroom is always clean and coffee is tasty - coffee is very important to me. Every inch of the salon is designed to be functional and pleasant to look at, after all, who wants to stare at themselves in a mirror for hours. The artwork is always changing and is beautiful to examine while waiting for your color to set. Now to the important part, it had been 3 months in between my appointments with a woman I had met once. She remembered details from our first conversation that I had forgotten we had. That speaks volumes about the level of service. She is always attentive to making sure you are comfortable and happy throughout the entire process. I've had many hair dressers in my years and most were good but it took a very long time for me to trust them. I could tell right away that I could give Stephanie free reign and she would give me both a fun, light look that was also professional and repeatable. She is a human being and fun to work with but also a true, knowledgeable professional and most importantly considerate and consistent. So if you're looking for quality and value in the services you receive, this is absolutely the place to go.

Monica told me repeatedly that morning how busy she was. I asked her three times to let me see a swatch of the colors she was using and she ignored me. While she was rinsing me out, she whispered, "The top of your head is going to look dark but it's because it's wet." I thought that was odd but now I know that it was then that she realized she had messed up. Instead of using the correct medium blond on the top of my head, she grabbed the brush with the brown color. I have spent the last three months washing and washing this Demi color hoping it will fade out. Monica has no idea how this has affected me, my life and my business. After two horrible experiences at May-Rah-Kee, my advise is stay as far away as you can from this place. Monica told me that this is a "teaching salon". Gee...I wish I'd known that up front.

I called on a Friday for hair appointments for my husband and self. They were able to fit us in…read moretogether in the afternoon same day which was nice, but may be because it was a weekday. My husband got Melanie and I got Diane. It was our first time here and they were both super pleasant and did a great job listening to our requests for our cuts. My husband and I both have undercuts we have been maintaining ourselves during quarantine and they definitely evened them out. They also took off dead ends and evened out our haircuts that were long overdue. Note- we went in 6/2020 and everyone is still required to social distance and wear a mask throughout their cut. They cleaned all surfaces before and after service including the waiting area and pens you sign your receipt with. The facility in itself looks clean and we only waited 5 minutes passed our appointment time, so they run smoothly. We don't live in the area, but we are considering moving here and would definitely come back to this salon and these hairdressers in the future.

Without knowing these were chair rentals, I made the mistake of calling the salon itself. What a dumb idea right? The man who answered (who I assume was the owner) was completely exasperated with me and rudely told me that I would need to call the stylist directly as he had no control over them and couldn't do anything to help me. "I never know when they're coming in this is the problem with chair rentals." When I got a hold of the stylist herself she was pleasant and explained how I could book online. She's not being represented well by the man she rents from. He was nasty.
