I have helped catch mice in this building, I've been ignored one too many times by the owner, I've been asked by another employee to give this "MAE" a good review?! Absolutely not! She is always loud and obnoxious!!! Can anyone issue a credit correctly? Nope. The compensation I was promised? Never happened. I emailed him twice, did he reply? This tanning salon is the cleanest I have been to. The environment is very "tropical" and the music selection is nice, i like how they play it loudly. You can adjust the volume in the rooms as you please too. They have many beds of all levels of tanning. They have the most upgraded smart tanning beds with red light therapy in them. Level 4&5 are most common ones due the tan to burn ratio with level 5 giving you 100% tan and let me tell you, there is NO burn in those beds lol. I highly recommend this salon despite the reviews from years ago. Like I said, the establishment is extremely clean and I have never seen any bugs or broken items in there. RUDE EMPLOYEES DIRTY BEDS!!! The girl at the front desk IS SOO RUDE, her name is Mae. Her tooth is discolored, she wears a crop top when she really shouldn't be and sits on the couch with a blanket, she gave me extreme attitude when asking about the difference of a level 5 and 4 bed. I asked for a lotion and she said which one I couldn't see without my glasses and she got so impatient and snapped at me. The bed I was in was bed 8. I went in around 12pm and the bed was not cleaned AT ALL. I had to let her know and she didn't apologize. I asked her her name and she said it's Mae but I really have no reason to know. I've tanned before with the girl with glasses she is so sweet and a people Person. The young girl with long hair is also so nice and kind. But MAE is absolutely nasty. As a former employee I can tell you these beds are NOT cleaned properly. Certain staff there don't mop the floors in the rooms either, very disgusting. The owner is unprofessional and extremely rude. The way he speaks to his staff is honestly unacceptable. He threatened to slander my name for doing nothing wrong except sticking up for myself (didn't even swear at him), and telling him I was going to get OSHA and the labor department involved. Please do not support this business, there are plenty of other great tanning places around that are much more sanitary and ran by kinder humans! Terrible Buisness! Smart Tan's owner is extremely critical and demeaning to its employees and customers. Everyday the employees complain how terrible the owner is to them and that he only pays them $13 an hour. David the owner texted me saying he doesn't make any money off me since I come in often using the unlimited package and said he will monitor everyone including me by watching his cameras with audio daily to make sure I don't speak to anyone about the bugs, broken glass or the smell. This place opens late almost everyday leaving customers waiting outside for long periods of time. This establishment is not cleaned properly, the floors are FILTHY and I cut my foot badly on glass in the room (I found three pieces of glass on the floor). One morning there were ROACHES running all over the lobby and in the rooms. This salon also has a problem with the smell of overwhelming SEWER GAS on occasion. The owner tries to intimidate and demean anyone who speaks of an issue. When an employee begs customers to call the Health Department on several occasions, it sends up the Red Flag! Lastly, David always publicly ridicules everyone that exposes his buisness with a honest review instead of apologizing and correcting the problems! Cleanest salon I have seen to date. They are especially cleaning well during COVID - they also have body sprays etc, that I have never seen elsewhere - so you do not have that burnt skin smell, lol after. Sanitizer on the walls in each room. Their red therapy beds do NOT BURN you. The girls were very informative of what each bed does--which ones give more of a tan versus burn ratio. Fans are super helpful inside these beds, especially on the face tanner. Also for added security-- they have a finger print option so someone can not say they are you, and use your tans. Wasn't working for a bit-but they fixed it ASAP for me. Highly recommended! read more

Really gross. When I was there, they weren't following any COVID precautions - the employees didn't wear masks, or restrict the number of people inside, take temps, or clean any contact surfaces. Extremely knowledgeable on the benefits of tanning and have the top of the line equipment to provide those benefits to you. Their Warwick, RI location is a cute atmosphere with a large selection of booths and beds (especially compared to most tanning salons). It's not the low, medium and high strength selection you are used to. All of their machines are top of the line and vary in their own individual features. There are red lights in all their machines for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, and skin problems including acne and rosacea. A mirrored vanity with items to freshen up after your tan (lotion, spray deodorant, hair ties, jewelry cleaner, etc.) After the dark days of a COVID winter this is the pick me up I needed not just for a glow (which we all love) but for my mental and physical health. 10/10 would recommend read more

For some time now I have been curious about tanning as a whole. I had no prior knowledge and as someone who is pretty pale, I didn't know where to start. My first trip I was greeted by Kayla. She throughly explained the benefits of each bed and helped me decide which would be best for my skin type. She also provided extensive information on the different lotions and the benefits of each. I have been tanning for over 10 years, I use to go to Natural Tans on Quaker Lane, but they recently closed after being in that location for 5 years. I had always paid 11 dollars for a full 11 minutes in a stand-up tanning booth, and on Tuesdays, it was only 5 bucks. I tan once a week for 11 minutes, and I stay tan year-round, I never burn. So I tried Smart Tan, the first session wasn't too bad even though they charged me 14 dollars but the next week when I went back they insisted on charging me 19 dollars, even though their website was 8.99 per session. The cashier even called the owner and he couldn't explain why their price is so much higher than all the other local tanning businesses. They didn't seem to care that I would be a weekly customer for years to come. The booths are so small you hardly have room to remove your clothes, there is nowhere to hang your clothes, I could feel dirt on the bottom of my feet so they don't sweep and mop the booths out, so most likely they don't clean them either. The booth had a strong smell of urine. Today I have white blotchy marks all over my skin, and I can tell I lost a lot of my tan over the past 2 weeks, so their red light therapy is just a scam to get people to pay more because it is much less effective than regular stand-up tanning booths. I guess I will be going to the Erotic tans on Divison st from now on. It's sad that the owner doesn't care about having regular long term customers and his comment was "tell the lady that you can't to compare us to other tanning salons" REALLY- There is no comparison, SMART TANS SUCK! read more

I will say all of the positive reviews are as accurate as it gets. They are not only affordable but the staff are also personable and friendly. What more could you ask for? Look, I am not Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard, but this ONE poorly run business. This is the 3rd Sunday in recent weeks they are NOT open. Yet, they advertise they open at 10AM. It was 11:30 this morning and they are locked up tighter than Fort Knox! Secondly, equipment is broken for weeks at a time with major employee turnover. I have been using the electronic beach for over 30 years and this is one of the WORST places I have ever used. For the amount they charge you'd think they could get the fundamentals right. I've been to a few tanning salons over the years and this one has been my absolute favorite. One, the atmosphere inside is just so cool, you never want to leave. Oftentimes you have to wait for the next available booth/bed to open up so waiting can be a little boring. Not here, they have an ultra cool lounge area where you can park yourself to wait. They have everythinig you can think of in the separate rooms. Hand sanitizer, after tanning spray (to help rid of that tanning smell) loofahs to help apply lotion to your back, and enough space to hold a party. They offer spray tans as well, I've heard they are pretty awesome, I am hoping to try one in the near future. Staff has always been super friendly and they always are offering great promotions. I recently discovered this tanning salon, right up the street from my GYM (convenient). It's really cute inside and the salon is very clean. Always have great music playing, hair ties in the room in case you forget one and perfume to use afterwards. negatives: The Wait - sometimes there's a 10-15 minute wait per bed. The Options in the tanning beds (broken or unusable) for instance the button to increase and decrease the facial lights along with the fan. Don't work as expected. I've been avoiding writing this review, but the owner has been unresponsive to me on social media and has not returned my phone calls (but has read my messages and ignored them). Where to start? I've been a customer of this salon on and off for the past 5 years, always purchasing an unlimited level 5 monthly package at over $100 a month. A WEEK before the covid shut down I purchased said package. Upon phase two reopening I returned to the salon, expecting my package was frozen during the shut down. The very sweet and helpful girl at the front desk informed me on the phone "he only extended your package until the 9th... let me call him because you're missing two weeks you paid for. I'll figure it out by the time you come in" when I came in she informed me he refused to extend my package, so I asked her to call him. He was rude to HER on the phone, then when I asked to speak to him he hung up on his employee! I wrote a long email to the business Facebook page, letting him know I've been a good paying customer for years and this is bad business, especially during a pandemic to take advantage of a client who supported his business. He read it and didn't respond! I sent a second message letting them know they would no longer receive my money, and he read and ignored that as well. So, I live and work in Providence, so there are a plethora of tanning salons closer to me that I can choose from, but I make the effort to drive to Smart Tan. I've been going here for about a year now, and have nothing bad to say about the place! The smart beds that are offered here really give you a great, dark tan quickly. I like the convenience of the different levels - during less busy times when I can go more often, I can use the lower level beds and save some money. If I haven't been able to get there for awhile, or if I can't visit as frequently, I can still get a great tan by using a higher level bed. I particularly like that they make the whole tanning experience as relaxing, convenient, and enjoyable as possible. There are a plethora of freebies available to customers like hair and skin products for their use. While I wish their prices were a little lower, I nonetheless recommend this tanning salon to anyone looking to tan quicker and safer! read more

Super clean salon! A few salons I have been totally grossed out by & I've literally walked out because I could just tell that the salon was not sanitary. I was also pleasantly surprised when I didn't have to pay for additional minutes like some of the other salons around town. The girl behind the counter was really nice to me and made me feel really comfortable as well. Smart Tan is an up-scale salon with good beds and strong bulbs. As I new customer, I saved 25% off on a monthly package. I opted for the "smartest" package, giving me access to the level 5 beds (approx $100 for the month). The beds are nice (I have seen nicer), but still appropriate for an up-scale salon. Behind the counter, they advertise that the bulbs are changed every 100 hours vs the industry standard of 400 hrs. The staff member said that the bed I tanned in (level 5) had been changed out a week prior! Just after two sessions, I could tell a difference in colour. If I had to critique... There are a few things I would get rid of in the salon. There is a tacky lotion packet display with used lotion packets hanging from a large wire rack- They could do without it. There are also a few "Don't" signs throughout the salon. "Don't bring your shoes in the rooms", etc. There are also a few tchotchkes that confuses the theme or identity of the salon. Less is more. The products that this salon offers seemed to be amazing. Unfortunately I never really got to use them because of Covid. My wedding reception and trip to Hawaii were cxled and the salons were closing but with advanced notice being given to salons. The woman that Signed me up was great as well as the woman I spoke with about suspending my membership because they were closing. Once it was announced that salons we're reopening I went in to try and reinstate my membership they told me it was already expired. They said that the day they reopened my membership kicked back in. I spoke with the owner John and asked how I was supposed to know they were open again as they never sent me any notification. He told me that the governor announced that they were opening and that I should have known that way! Absolutely unacceptable customer service. When I was here visiting family for a wedding tomorrow, I needed a spray tan (which I was not very familiar with). Morgan spent so much time explaining how everything worked. She asked me a bunch of questions about my daily routine and gave a lot of advice on how to keep the tan for the longest amount of time. I couldn't have been happier with my experience. For someone traveling, as I do often - usually when a tanning salon finds out that they may not be getting a regular customer, they treat you a little differently.
