I had a great experience here. We had an appointment for my son and myself. My son had a tongue release done prior to our visit to Dr. Tara. Tara gave us an experience that we were yet to have with all the of dentists, pediatricians and hospital lactation nurses. She was very informative and talked us through different scenarios. While I have seen some reviews on here that are negative I have nothing but great things to say. Her approach to treatment is above and beyond including lactation help and myofacial therapy. I'm so glad we found out about Smart Mouth, Dr. Tara and her staff! We had a very long run around with our daughters health and when Dr. Tara did her initial evaluation she spotted all the helps the other professionals had missed or couldn't "fix". This was the 7th place I had been to get my daughter the help I knew she needed, but was being turned away at every other point by every other professional. I knew my daughter had a tongue tie, but what I didn't know was she had quadruple oral ties: tongue, upper lip, and two cheeks. I nearly broke down and bawled when it took Dr. Tara 3 seconds to see, feel, and notice all the ties, and confirm I wasn't losing my mind. No friendly smile, no welcoming words, no reassuring niceties, nothing - just very cold and patronizing. I can't say it was professional either. This might sound harsh, but we just didn't have any confidence in our child being treated with care at all, based on the consultation. Overpriced and overfluffed for what we received. I was thrilled to Yelp about 'Smart Mouth' the same day because I had such a positive experience. Upon our arrival, The staff were friendly. They immediately gave me paper work to fill out and were seen shortly. 'Smart Mouth' medical office is so clean, simple and assembled nicely. I noticed that they do other services aside from pediatric dentistry; they also specialize in oral surgery, lactating counseling and massage theraphy. Dr. Tara Erson is God sent and an absolute blessing. My daughter has had feeding difficulties since she was an infant. My daughter has seen many doctors and therapists. My daughters own pediatrician wasn't too concerned about her feeding issues and claimed that "it's a phase, it'll pass". I'm with my daughter 24/7, I have two other children, I knew for a fact that there was something wrong with my toddler. She diagnosed my daughter in under two minutes. l was immediately impressed by Dr. Tara because she was blatantly honest. I admire Dr. Tara's aspiration for her profession, her passion to ameliorate others and the ability to actually have empathy (which many doctors lack). I'm relieved that Dr. Tara was able to shed light on my daughters feeding issues. Dr. Tara answered all of my questions, concerns and educated me on tongue ties. I'm anxious, yet excited to start this new endeavor with my daughter. It always starts with the head hancho themselves, and in this case, her name is Dr. Tara. She is at the forefront of her profession and uses only the most recent, evidence-based, and effective treatments to perform her procedures. You can rest well knowing your little child is in the most prepared hands in Las Vegas. I was an emotional wreck leading up to my daughters procedure, I'm talking The Notebook status, and Dr. Tara and her team continuously put my mind at ease and made a stressful event as easy and comfortable as it possibly could be. Extremely impressed with her expertise and knowledge. Jennifer (body work specialist) is absolutely amazing with your baby during her sessions. TLDR: Beware of this business. Dr. Tara is an expert in her field and very kind. No complaints in hospitality, however the business model is predatory and overcharging. For a Dentist or ENT, the laser procedure out of pocket is 450. Smart Mouth is charging 1000+ and forcing therapy sessions prior to the procedure. (I was instructed the therapist would determine when my son was ready for his procedure based on therapy, not the Doctors discretion. I found this VERY concerning.) A fee-for-service office can be predatory, as you "may" be able to get it covered by insurance on your own but it can be unlikely with the price mark-up being this high on the procedure. I really enjoyed our conversation and her manner with my 3 month old son lacked no kindness. I just found the business model to be very scam-like and I caution desperate moms from starting here. I don't disagree that therapy can be crucial to healing and prep, but should not be forced prior to procedure ($200-$800 ON TOP of the $1000+) if you are a parent qualified to do the therapy component yourself. read more

It took me a long time to write this review... mostly because I had two different experiences with the staff there because I have two daughters, both who had lip and tongue ties revised by Dr. Tara. My oldest is almost 3 and my other is 9 months. My first had hers done in 2021 when COVID-19 measures were still in place... masks, distance, limited appointments, no group breastfeeding support, etc. I felt Dr. Tara did a good job explaining to me and my husband what was "wrong" with our daughter's mouth and how the tongue revision would fix it. However, with the mask on- we were only able to read tone and body language and left feeling like she was not very sympathetic to me as a first time mom and my breastfeeding challenges. We still went ahead with the appointments prior to revision, the revision itself and therapy to follow. Everything was great with the revision and we were diligent in doing the stretches and massages (though they sucked) and our daughter's tie healed appropriately. I saw Alura and Danielle countless times for lactation help and my daughter just never breastfed. We spent hundreds of out of pocket (additional) dollars for more bodywork and extra lactation support sessions and it just didn't' happen for me. I am not blaming the lactation consultants or Dr. Tara, I am just writing this so some other mom/family doesn't think its 100% guarantee your child will breastfeed if you do everything "right". I decided to exclusively pump (which in 2021 I felt very judged by them with this decision and bottle feeding) but my daughter was able to get breastmilk from me for close to 9 months. it was a decision I had to make for myself and the sanity of my family. Two years later, my second daughter was born with the same ties as her sister. We knew what to look for and our pediatrician found it right away so we called Smart Mouth within 3 days. No social distancing or masks this time and we felt like Dr. Tara was a completely different person. She was very sympathetic to us and kind and understanding of our situation and what we went through before. I went in with low expectations for breastfeeding but wanted to fix my daughters' ties so that speech issues and such later on could be minimized. This time around, Smart Mouth was offering breastfeeding classes for free in a group setting Tuesdays and Thursdays with Danisha *unsure on spelling of her name*. She was super nice and helpful. My second daughter was a little better at breastfeeding than my first but her latch was just very shallow and it didn't get much better. I decided to start exclusively pumping for her when all my family/support left around her 3 month birthday. Again, not blaming anyone. I tried my best and got the support I could but breastfeeding just didn't work for me. Some people might say it's me or my fault but I literally did everything they told me to do, got hours of outside support (for both girls) and it just never happened for us. **Jennifer is amazing and the best person Dr. Tara has on her staff. Dr. Tara changed my daughter's life and saved our breastfeeding journey. I was so close to giving up. After being told by my pediatrician that there was nothing wrong with my daughter and to just bottle feed (even that wasn't going so great), I knew there was something wrong that needed to be addressed. I saw an IBCLC who immediately could tell my daughter had a lip tie and posterior tongue tie and she referred me to Dr. Tara. Be very weary and get a second opinion after going here. We went here for my newborns tongue tie, I scheduled the consult, the day of my consult I seen the pediatrician and she asked where I was taking him, when I told her she was like "it's a free consult so keep it but he only has a tongue tie, guaranteed Dr. Tara will tell you he has a lip tie and possibly buccal ties, she is notorious for doing unnecessary procedures." I proceeded to go to the appt after and sure enough, he "has" other ties that need to be taken care of, they don't bill insurance, so it's all out of pocket. I took him to Summerlin pediatric dentistry after for a second opinion they were very honest, he only has a tongue tie, no other ties like Dr Tara said, it's half the price there and they bill insurance so I probably won't pay any anything. I asked the doctor there and she said the same thing "we see a lot of 2nd opinions from Dr Tara. She is known to do unnecessary procedures.." so be very weary of this practice. read more

Dr. Tara and her staff changed everything for me.We had a long hard journey; my son was gaining weight great at first but by his 1 month appointment, he stopped gaining, which as a new parent was very stressful. At the time I was given so much misinformation, and so much differing information. I was told that he didn't have a tie, that he was a lazy feeder, that if he did have a tie it was only mild, that he lacked cheek muscles, that he had low muscle tone, that I had to supplement, that I was feeding him too often not letting my milk "refill," that he was just too disorganized to feed. I went to multiple practitioners and got different answers from everyone which led me to keep waiting. This of course only made everything harder and I began to lose my supply because he wasn't feeding effectively and I had to triple feed for 3 months. I went to the other dental practitioners who told me: his tie was mild it wouldn't be what was affecting his feeding, or from another, that I could revise his tongue but to "not expect to ever be that mom who can just breastfeed my baby in the parking lot of a grocery store as I probably will never get there or get my supply fully back." I finally saw Dr.Tara who never once gave me anything but confidence. Confidence that she was just as invested in the same outcome as I was. Confidence that she knew how important ties are to his function; confidence in her ability, her care, everything. She was just as invested in my baby and I getting to the other side of this as I was. She was the only provider who knew his lip needed to be revised as well and I am so grateful when I look back at pictures his tightness in his lip is so obvious now after seeing the difference months later. She is one of the most caring doctors I have ever met. I finally had him revised at 4 months and after a little bit of therapy from there, we went on to exclusively breastfeed, without pumping or triple feeding or supplementing; and still am at almost 16 months. I have learned so much since diving into all of this and how much ties can lead to so many other problems inlifeandIam so grateful to have addressed it while he was a baby. Smart Mouth gave me back my expectation I had for the way I wanted to feed and connect to my baby and truly, changed my life and my connection to motherhood. And of course the health of my baby. I am telling my story in case it helps any other mom out there who is hearing all these differing opinions holding you back and for you to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I had 3 pediatricians tell me my daughter didn't have oral ties and I decided to make an appointment for a consult with her anyways. I am literally so glad we did! She got us in the next week and after my daughter was revised our problems significantly decreased. Dr. Tara and her staff literally changed my nursing journey and made my early motherhood life change drastically. If I wrote the long version of my experience, this review would be mile long, so I'll give you the condensed one. I am a RDH in the dental field for 15 years. I knew my son at 3 weeks was having difficulty.. all the symptoms of LT/TT... was told by 2 pedo docs that wasn't the problem. And gave me gas drops ( go figure) . Hired a Lac consultant ( very knowledgeable) but insisted I see her & her circle of doctors- chiro doctor at least 4-6 times and also a dentist BEFORE getting a referral!! HELLO! There's no time for that! My child's tie isn't gonna fix itself! Her rates were high & she seemed to be milking me for more money... my husband and I were not feeling right about it, so upon tons of prayer, we sought out a Different lactation consultant (Tami) who came to our home that very next day and gave us the referral we needed with no beating around the bush or waiting or milking us for more money! She was wonderful!! We paid her fees ( which were much less and fair!) and she was at our home for 4 hours! She referred us to DR TaRa... & Dr Wise for bodywork ( Who is AMAZING!!!!!!! We Love HIm!) Dr Tara accepted text messages... I've NEVER in 15 years of working in dentistry saw a DR answer her PERSONAL cell phone for patients! This changed the game for me! She texted back right away and we got in to see her for a consult. She was going out of town but she squeezed us in on a Saturday to get the procedure done! She is an expert & has such a passion! She is The BEST!!! Her lac consultant ALURA was fantastic! I could go on and on about her commitment & her gift for this field and children!!! The procedure took just minutes wirh the CO2 laser! Which, being in dentistry, is the BEST piece of equipment on the market! Alura and Dr TAra made themselves available day/ night weekends! Alura even CAME TO MY HOuSE to check my child to make sure I was doing his stretches correctly! THIS was patient care on a whole new level! I'm beyond grateful to them! To God for answering our prayers!!!! My son nursed like night and day the very next min after the procedure was done! He's transferring milk and nursing and gaining and barely any gas or acid reflux! OMG what more can I say then Dr Tara is an in earth angel!! I found out my adopted son was having medical issues our PCP were saying things I didn't agree with (but hey he's a dr right?) So since my son isn't breast feed and was on Oxygen I didn't notice how he was having issues sucking on a bottle... also always sounded like a piggy (snorting to breathe) I assumed it was from the tubes in his nose. Fast fw a few weeks at his 1 mo apt I asked MY PCP if it looked like a tongue tie and lip tie (I had this w my oldest child) he didn't have any urgency or concerns. I was suggested to a ENT it must be his nose/ breathing/ cuz he was born addicted to drugs... my mom gut said differently! I joined a FB group and from there found a local FB group for kids w tounge ties. I posted pics and asked questions. I read every post and googled each Dr but one Dr kept coming up... Dr Tara!! At 6am I "text" (yes she answered her phone and it was her) and I sent pics. She had my son in with in 24hrs and spent time explaining options and then showing is what our commitment would be on daily exercise for his surgeries to heal correctly! We got in the day of surgeries, she made us laugh and feel like life long family. I had no worries as she took him back to do the surgeries. When we came back to the room she spent more time because he had even more issues then she could see in consultation. She FIXED my baby. His tounge moved! He drank w no leaks and got food fast vs taking forever!! HE COULD BREATHE!! No more snorting... im in tears still writing this!! Dr. Tara Erson is fantastic! I highly recommend taking your children to her. She has always been thorough with our boys and very honest with us. Better yet, our boys actually have fun while they are at the dentist. We have been taking our 2.5 year old son to her since he was a 1 year old. Now we take our 11 month old too. She has a great bedside manner with our boys. They have always been pleasant while they are in the chair with her, and are never fearful or unhappy to go back. She is very informative when it comes to preventive care and options for any issues that may arise. For example, my oldest has a cavity on his front tooth. I am uncomfortable putting him under anesthesia at this time. She was very open and honest about the options and outcomes we have in order to address the issue. Dr. Tara is kind, gentle, & caring. She really takes the time to answer all of my questions (& I am one of those parents with a million & one questions on my list!) & she ensures my daughter is comfortable before moving forward with the exam & cleaning. We've been going quarterly since age 1 & my daughter is nearly 3. No cavities or any issues yay! My daughter is really motivated to brush, floss, & clean her tongue so that her teeth are sparkling & breathe is fresh for Dr. Tara. She doesn't care if her teeth are 'yucky & slimy' or if her breathe is stinky for me or her father or even when I tell her that her friends won't play with her. Dr. Tara and her staff are AMAZING. With my oldest, it was a nightmare getting his tongue tie resolved. Everyone told me he had no tie, but I suspected otherwise. Dr. Tara wasn't around at this time (at least to my knowledge) and it wasn't until my oldest was 15 months that his ties were finally fixed. When I got pregnant with my second, I knew exactly what to look for and, sure enough, he had tongue and lip ties. This time, I found Dr. Tara. One week after my baby was born, his ties were resolved and it was like night and day. I was never able to breastfeed my oldest and it was excruciating to feed my youngest in the first week of his life. But after his ties were lasered? He nursed! Without pain!! It took over a month of stretches and strengthening exercises to get his mouth to heal properly, but now, over 3 months later, he's a pro at nursing. Everyone at Smart Mouth genuinely cares about helping your child. You have to pay out of pocket because most insurances won't cover the procedure, but I felt it was worth every penny. After the procedure you meet with a lactation consultant and you have a couple appointments for craniosacral therapy. All of this is included in the cost. We spent 2x Dr. Tara's cost to fix my oldest's ties and it didn't include any therapy or time with a lactation consultant. So Dr. Tara's cost was very fair in my opinion. And a consultation with her was free! So you have nothing to lose scheduling that first appointment with her. read more

Here's my review: My son was crying and starving no matter how often or long he nursed. He was losing weight fast. I was new to breastfeeding but had gone to classes and hired a certified LC. I was desperate, I was a mess and I didn't know what to do to keep my baby fed and thriving. I did everything I was told, tried it all. But it wasn't until I hired a second certified LC who noticed the tongue and lip ties. I had NEVER considered that my boy simply could not physically nurse properly! I was both sad and also relieved because I realized I wasn't crazy. Smart Mouth came highly recommended and I scheduled the free consultation ASAP. I started digging in and educating myself as much as possible. Turns out this is a very common yet highly misunderstood and even commonly missed by most pediatricians, dentists and even ENT Drs! Read that again. Dr. Tera is the real deal! Check out her website and the plethora of specialized training, courses and extra education she has sought out herself to become a legitimate EXPERT in the area of ties, revision and body work to name a few! Plus, she's a dentist! The consult was enlightening, educational and reassuring. My baby and I were in the best possible hands. They make you feel cared about, important, empowered and the support they offer is simply amazing. Dr. Tera went into specifics about ties and did an oral exam. She discovered and diagnosed my son had a posterior tongue tie and mild upper lip tie that were restricting his ability to suck and nurse properly. Poor boy was trying so hard but was literally physically unable to feed properly. I was initially sad for him but then immediately relieved that help was finally here. She discussed the treatment and procedure plans. It's a multi-modal approach involving a team of sweet, caring professionals that make the process so smooth. From massages to latch coaching to the pre and post care and follow-up appts (ALL INCLUDED BY THE WAY), I never felt alone or unsure because they were all so thorough. It was a bit stressful for the weeks following, to do the stretches after the CO2 laser procedure, and to learn everything about the mechanics of proper sucking/feeding but it was worth every penny, every tear and every sleepless night. Besides, we will endure those things anyway with a new baby so why not INVEST in our babies overall and long-term health now! And yes, getting these restrictions released and resolved at a young age can benefit them in SO MANY ways that I had never considered or even knew about. Digestion issues, colic, pain, motor function, speech problems, eating issues, oral/facial structure and growth issues and dental issues to name a few. It's amazing what you will learn from the Smart Mouth team!!! It's the lack of education and knowledge of our most trusted medical professionals that sends us desperate mom's into a tailspin and forces us to give bottles/formula, feel like a failure, never recognize or address the REAL underlying issues and give up our dreams of breastfeeding (not to shame those who choose or end up feeding a bottle or formula, FED is best!). Excessive folic acid is said to be one of the contributing factors, as well as genetics. Bottom line, if you are having any problems with your baby, your child or even yourself, it could be related to a restriction! My little guy was having issues with taking a bottle starting at 3 months, called a lactation consultant (Tami Jo) who referred me to Dr Tara. Her office scheduled me within a few days and was scheduled for tongue and lip tie revision shortly after. (She did require feeding therapy before he had the revision due to his age). I cannot explain what a huge difference the revision (along with feeding therapy and body work) has made in my baby! He went from being super colicky to a happy little guy within a few days! He still struggles with gas but that's expected. Dr Tara and her whole staff were/are amazing. Would totally recommend Jenner, the massage therapist, as well! I was unfamiliar with tongue ties until I had my second child. My pediatrician noticed my boy's extreme tongue tie as soon as he was born and let me know about Dr. Tara. I didn't book an appointment until he was about six weeks old and during that time I noticed he had difficulty drinking (he was also unable to latch) from his bottle and he was always so red in the face and his tummy always very bloated. Though this process is quite gut wrenching to endure, at the end of the day your baby will be SO much better off with it. As soon as his ties (his lip was also tied) were removed I noticed a change in fussiness, skin color, and bloat (completely gone). My boy is a year old now and has the appetite of a lion. He is a happy, healthy baby that gets awesome sleep (no snoring-- also a thing he did as a newborn-- or sleeping with his mouth open). Dr. Tara is so knowledgeable, informative and caring, as is her entire staff (omg, the baby massages are a thing you need to see to believe. Jennifer is the baby whisperer!), they always made me feel reassured that my baby was in good hands (and they ALWAYS came to the rescue when I called for help with the baby's tongue exercises). I should have wrote a review sooner...so freaking thankful we found Dr Tara. All thanks to a referral from a speech and food therapist my son was seeing at 18months old due to not eating anything! Not even purées. She saw he had a lip and tongue tie and sent us here. I was a little hesitant seeing I had not known anything about ties. We had the procedure done and while I will not lie it was rough at first and I'm sure it's much easier with a younger child then it was to do stretches with an 18 month old...it was all so worth it! After about the third or fourth week he just started eating! Which was such a huge deal. We had been trying everything for so long and to finally see him eating was a moment I'll never forget. The staff was always so nice and at our check ups made sure to really help me get the hang of stretches. Wonderful experience with Dr. Tara! She is so good with kids, my daughter never cries when we come and gets really excited to get a little toy at the end. She had cavities and Dr. Tara was very gentle and really good at explaining me the job she had to do on my daughter's mouth.
