This is a good stop to take a break and to get some snacks after a long drive. I was looking for smaller packs of candy, but they mostly have larger packs. Line wasn't too bad since it was in the late afternoon. I got the Werther's Original Pumpkin Spice Soft Caramels. They were surprisingly very sticky to the wrap. I had to put them in the fridge so they come off better. read more

This store is the worst there's like one friendly cashier (male) A cashier by the name of Malayah seems to not like her job as she had attitude when she was told to open at a cashier at 8pm. They close at 10pm I feel sorry for anyone who goes in there the last two hours she's working, she's rude. read more

Came here for two items as its close to my house, but little did I realize there is NO carts, minimal salads, 2 cashiers, no minimal line; and a ton of people trying to get groceries. Hopefully this store gets staffed quickly! The 2 cashiers didn't even ask for back up. read more

I run a small business called Jazzy's Sweet Treats and earlier this year I introduced ice cream sandwiches, ice cream sundaes, and adding a scoop of ice cream to my treats (a la mode)! But first I was on the quest for the BEST vanilla ice cream sold in a 3 GAL tub in the Visalia/Tulare area! I stopped by Smart & Final one day in Visalia off Mooney and saw they had the Thrifty vanilla ice cream sold by the 3 GAL. Yes, Thrifty as in the brand that we all know and love when you buy a scoop (or two) of ice cream at Rite Aid! It's super creamy and ultra delicious! I think people began to also realize this because I have had the hardest time finding it at either Smart & Final location in Visalia lately. I had a big event coming up, the Springville Apple Festival and I wanted to have the Thrifty ice cream there for my customers but when I went to both locations in Visalia, all they had was their First Street brand vanilla ice cream! I was super bummed because it doesn't even come CLOSE to Thrifty. In a time crunch, I went ahead and bought two First Street vanillas cuz I really needed ice cream at the event. But something told me to look up other Smart & Final's in the area and I saw they had one in Tulare. When I pulled them up on Yelp I saw they had terrible reviews because of the customer service. I was like "Okay, I'm gonna call them and see if they can turn around their 2 star reviews and give them a chance to deliver EXCELLENT customer service for me". And they did just that! I called them at about 10am asking if they had any Thrifty vanilla ice cream in a 3 GAL tub". The employee put me on hold and came back and said "We're out BUT let me see if our truck is due to have any on it. It's coming today around noon." She put me on another brief hold and said "Yes! The truck is gonna have 3 Thrifty vanilla ice creams on it! Would you like me to put one aside for you when it arrives?" I asked her if I could have 2 please and she said sure! I also asked if it's possible to exchange my two First Streets for the Thrifty, she said no problem! Just bring your receipt. So once noon rolls around, I call them to confirm if the truck has indeed arrived with the Thrifty vanilla ice cream. It had and she reassured me they already had my two Thrifty's set aside with my name on them all ready for pick up! So I pack my car with my ice chest and ice packs, go to my kitchen here in Visalia to pick up the First Street ice creams from my freezer and drive down to Tulare ensuring they don't melt and make the exchange. Right when I walk in I noticed they had pulled my Thrifty ice creams out of the freezer and put them on a dolly by the registers in anticipation of my visit! HUGE shoutout to Daisy in the freezer section (and I believe the managers name was Jaclyn)! You saved my event and it wouldn't have been possible without your outstanding customer service and going above and BEYOND to help a stressed small business owner with something as simply as vanilla ice cream! 10/10 HIGHLY recommend! read more

Smart & Final Extra! - Two - 3 GAL Thrifty Vanilla ice cream AKA the BEST vanilla ice cream you'll ever have!! - Grocery Near Me - Tulare, California

Wow, I was here at 7:15 on 04/05/2024. They only had 2 cash registers open and they had the exit doors open only. Why? They don't close until 10pm. There was no reason for this to be. read more

This store is decent. Always pretty clean and organized. They keep their inventory stocked up pretty well. The produce section isn't the best as far as options but I can't complain because its good quality and not old or disappointing looking. Prices are pretty high but not much higher than most grocery stores. The employees have always been fairly nice and knowledgeable. Shout out to an employee named Liz. She's only helped me once but she left a good impression. One thing that I do think they need to work on is paying attention to advertised sales.. like the little price tag/coupon things that they will stick right under the product. There have been a couple times where the deal wasn't honored in the system and I had to bring it to their attention or the tag would still be left under the item even though the deal is expired. Other than that, I would definitely recommend. read more

This store has the average score of 2 stars, so I will go ahead and keep with that theme, although it is a bit too generous based on my last visit. I stopped in for a couple of things after leaving the Starbucks located in the same shopping center. The store has a feeling of being old and unkept. I came in because I needed Half-n-Half. I was disappointed to see that all of the Half-n-Half in stock was either passed the expiration date or within a day or two. A large amount of dairy products were expired. Produce at this store comes from another country. This is too bad when the store is located in the literal center of California agriculture. Hard pass here. read more

This store has gone down hill drastically in the last few years. Every time I come to this store, I stand in line for longer for longer than it takes me to shop. It's ridiculous that only 1-2 registers are open and lines are too long. Today, all the aisles were partly blocked with overstock of pallets making it difficult to shop.Cashiers are very slow. read more

So I went in to buy like four things today (8/8/24). I intended to pay half EBT half debit. The cashier accidentally put cash, called a manager, no biggie. I waited. The manager was rushy and mean to the cashier and didn't bother to say anything to me. She had red hair. She leaves and TWO other women approach me to ask what happened and why I'm waiting cuz they thought it was fixed. I needed to be charged. More time elapsed in between them talking to me. By the time the last girl approached me, I see red hair clocking out and rolling her eyes at the fact I'm still there. The girl that helped me in the end had attitude at first and then when she asked the cashier that messed up what happened, she lost the attitude with me :) I should've just walked out lol. I waited for like fifteen mins total and they didn't bother to tell me what was going on. When the cashier messed up in the beginning too, I could've just walked out without being charged but because I work retail I knew it was wierd her register opened when I was done. So I stayed. I HAD to ask her what happened but no other communication happened read more

Absolutely the most unfriendly store in town! No one employed here seems to know what customer service is let alone helpful in anyway! Long lines, and rude clerks. I have given up on trying to use their coupons, especially the digital ones. I am not shopping here again! read more

This will be the last time I shop at this store, unfortunately. They're store is very disorganized since Joe left and check out is a nightmare. They definitely need a better system for express checkout. They let everyone with more than 10 items in the lane, it takes forever to check out. Save yourself the time and frustration and go to Target or Walmart down the street. read more

The employees there are rude they do not acknowledge you whatsoever. Very poor management

I was shopping for food and was looking a the coffee creamer and it showed that It expired 5 MONTHS ago. It was discussing. Me and my family are never shopping there. I wish I could give 0 stars! read more

Can I give less than one star? This store in Tulare the worst customer service ever. The cashier was unhappy that I was paying with a hundred dollar bill although that was all I had so she got really snippy with me. (My total was $30) "Next time bring a small bill and change or use your card," in a hateful embarassing manner in front of other customers. It is a retail store, right? Last time I checked they have to take CASH, USD? read more

My wife and i went to the Smart & Final in Tulare. While shoppimg we saw a ten pound bag of sugar for the sale price of 4.89.The regular price was 5.78. We both saw these prices. When we went to check out the price came up 5.78. I told her about the posted price she went to check the price she came back with a phone photo of both prices showing 5.78. She took the sale price off. We both have good eyes and know what we saw. I rechecked the shelf for my self and know what we saw the first time. This is a regular sales item.I didn't make a scene but i will never shop at any Smart & Final store in any city. We know exactly what happened. She didn't offer to make it right or csal a supervisor. read more

This Smart & Final store is in the middle of a remodel, but it is already much larger and nicer than my Smart & Final stores back home in Bakersfield so I'm sure it's going to be fabulous by the time they're done. I forgot to bring my phone to Tulare on this visit or I'd have taken pictures of the inside of the store to show you what I mean. Smart & Final, for the uninitiated, is a discount retailer that carries food, alcohol, cleaning supplies, and paper goods, usually in larger packages than a normal store. I usually think of it as being somewhere between an Albertsons and a Costco both in price and in package size. This particular Smart & Final also carried a variety of beauty and personal care items in normal sized packages, their produce and liquor departments kick a$$, and I was surprised to see how many regular grocery items could be purchased in normal sized containers instead of everything being in large packages. In spite of the construction going on outside it seemed like business as usual inside as the employees all went about their business with friendly faces. If I lived here in Tulare, I'd definitely be visiting this Smart & Final to purchase the bulk of my grocery items and only head to a regular grocery store for specialty items. read more

This a good store, but produce Dept. carries no US Veg. everything is from Mexico, They should also offer Veg. and fruit from the U.S., California, we have great produce and fruit. We need a choice! read more

I went in to the store to pick up a box of pasta, went through the 10 items or less line. The cashier named Ty I believe waited on me. She did not say one word to me during the whole transition, I had the feeling that she felt it was an inconvenience for her to wait on me. This is very poor customer service. My family has a grocery store and if we had an employee treat our customers like that they would be terminated immediately. I would give no stars but had to pick one to write a review read more

Connie is the rudest checkout person I have ever seen. When I asked for a bag she threw it on the counter like saying bag it yourself??? Then while I was waiting for another bag she decided to start "helping" me by shoving all my stuff into one bag when it was clearly gonna take 2 bags. then forgot to give me my receipt and when I asked for it she handed it to me with no thank you, have a nice day or anything. Guess I'll go to Foods Co from now on instead. read more

Connie is absolutely the rudest cashier at the store. She has never once asked me how I'm doing, but I have heard her ask other people in line how they're doing, so maybe she's intimidated by me. Today not only did she not speak to me, but she talked to another cashier the entire transaction and didn't end up charging me for every item that I purchased because she was so distracted. Am I going back inside to correct it? Absolutely not. Thanks for the free beer, Connie. read more

Today I was going into Smart & Final in Tulare Ca ( our local store). I was told that I would not be able to shop if I was not going to put a mask on. I did not and did not shop! At what time does a company tell its paying customers to enter a store and spend money that the Must put on a mask? I understand the employees to protect them, but a paying customer that supporting your business? NO I will not shop any your establishment any more. Not even wen this is all over(covid-19). That's the great thing about our town and neighboring towns they sell the same items and so you have lost my business! I also noticed that the parking lot was a little scarce with cars. read more

Plenty of parking. Store was clean it's still early and already they are out of hotdog and hamburger buns. Not cool. Went to this location really quick today. I always feel like this place is a lot cleaner and less busy than the Visalia location which I like. I've always had to wait in a long line in Visalia. Overall, great experience, will be back and may even make the drive out to this location just because of the experience. read more
