I run a small business called Jazzy's Sweet Treats and earlier this year I introduced ice cream sandwiches, ice cream sundaes, and adding a scoop of ice cream to my treats (a la mode)! But first I was on the quest for the BEST vanilla ice cream sold in a 3 GAL tub in the Visalia/Tulare area! I stopped by Smart & Final one day in Visalia off Mooney and saw they had the Thrifty vanilla ice cream sold by the 3 GAL. Yes, Thrifty as in the brand that we all know and love when you buy a scoop (or two) of ice cream at Rite Aid! It's super creamy and ultra delicious! I think people began to also realize this because I have had the hardest time finding it at either Smart & Final location in Visalia lately. I had a big event coming up, the Springville Apple Festival and I wanted to have the Thrifty ice cream there for my customers but when I went to both locations in Visalia, all they had was their First Street brand vanilla ice cream! I was super bummed because it doesn't even come CLOSE to Thrifty. In a time crunch, I went ahead and bought two First Street vanillas cuz I really needed ice cream at the event. But something told me to look up other Smart & Final's in the area and I saw they had one in Tulare. When I pulled them up on Yelp I saw they had terrible reviews because of the customer service. I was like "Okay, I'm gonna call them and see if they can turn around their 2 star reviews and give them a chance to deliver EXCELLENT customer service for me". And they did just that! I called them at about 10am asking if they had any Thrifty vanilla ice cream in a 3 GAL tub". The employee put me on hold and came back and said "We're out BUT let me see if our truck is due to have any on it. It's coming today around noon." She put me on another brief hold and said "Yes! The truck is gonna have 3 Thrifty vanilla ice creams on it! Would you like me to put one aside for you when it arrives?" I asked her if I could have 2 please and she said sure! I also asked if it's possible to exchange my two First Streets for the Thrifty, she said no problem! Just bring your receipt. So once noon rolls around, I call them to confirm if the truck has indeed arrived with the Thrifty vanilla ice cream. It had and she reassured me they already had my two Thrifty's set aside with my name on them all ready for pick up! So I pack my car with my ice chest and ice packs, go to my kitchen here in Visalia to pick up the First Street ice creams from my freezer and drive down to Tulare ensuring they don't melt and make the exchange. Right when I walk in I noticed they had pulled my Thrifty ice creams out of the freezer and put them on a dolly by the registers in anticipation of my visit! HUGE shoutout to Daisy in the freezer section (and I believe the managers name was Jaclyn)! You saved my event and it wouldn't have been possible without your outstanding customer service and going above and BEYOND to help a stressed small business owner with something as simply as vanilla ice cream! 10/10 HIGHLY recommend! read more

This store has gone down hill drastically in the last few years. Every time I come to this store, I stand in line for longer for longer than it takes me to shop. It's ridiculous that only 1-2 registers are open and lines are too long. This store is decent. Always pretty clean and organized. They keep their inventory stocked up pretty well. The produce section isn't the best as far as options but I can't complain because its good quality and not old or disappointing looking. Prices are pretty high but not much higher than most grocery stores. The employees have always been fairly nice and knowledgeable. Shout out to an employee named Liz. She's only helped me once but she left a good impression. One thing that I do think they need to work on is paying attention to advertised sales.. like the little price tag/coupon things that they will stick right under the product. There have been a couple times where the deal wasn't honored in the system and I had to bring it to their attention or the tag would still be left under the item even though the deal is expired. So I went in to buy like four things today (8/8/24). I intended to pay half EBT half debit. The cashier accidentally put cash, called a manager, no biggie. I waited. The manager was rushy and mean to the cashier and didn't bother to say anything to me. She had red hair. She leaves and TWO other women approach me to ask what happened and why I'm waiting cuz they thought it was fixed. I needed to be charged. More time elapsed in between them talking to me. By the time the last girl approached me, I see red hair clocking out and rolling her eyes at the fact I'm still there. The girl that helped me in the end had attitude at first and then when she asked the cashier that messed up what happened, she lost the attitude with me :) I should've just walked out lol. I waited for like fifteen mins total and they didn't bother to tell me what was going on. When the cashier messed up in the beginning too, I could've just walked out without being charged but because I work retail I knew it was wierd her register opened when I was done. So I stayed. This store has the average score of 2 stars, so I will go ahead and keep with that theme, although it is a bit too generous based on my last visit. I stopped in for a couple of things after leaving the Starbucks located in the same shopping center. The store has a feeling of being old and unkept. I came in because I needed Half-n-Half. I was disappointed to see that all of the Half-n-Half in stock was either passed the expiration date or within a day or two. A large amount of dairy products were expired. Produce at this store comes from another country. This is too bad when the store is located in the literal center of California agriculture. Hard pass here. read more

My wife and i went to the Smart & Final in Tulare. While shoppimg we saw a ten pound bag of sugar for the sale price of 4.89.The regular price was 5.78. We both saw these prices. When we went to check out the price came up 5.78. I told her about the posted price she went to check the price she came back with a phone photo of both prices showing 5.78. She took the sale price off. We both have good eyes and know what we saw. I rechecked the shelf for my self and know what we saw the first time. This Smart & Final store is in the middle of a remodel, but it is already much larger and nicer than my Smart & Final stores back home in Bakersfield so I'm sure it's going to be fabulous by the time they're done. I forgot to bring my phone to Tulare on this visit or I'd have taken pictures of the inside of the store to show you what I mean. Smart & Final, for the uninitiated, is a discount retailer that carries food, alcohol, cleaning supplies, and paper goods, usually in larger packages than a normal store. I usually think of it as being somewhere between an Albertsons and a Costco both in price and in package size. This particular Smart & Final also carried a variety of beauty and personal care items in normal sized packages, their produce and liquor departments kick a$$, and I was surprised to see how many regular grocery items could be purchased in normal sized containers instead of everything being in large packages. In spite of the construction going on outside it seemed like business as usual inside as the employees all went about their business with friendly faces. If I lived here in Tulare, I'd definitely be visiting this Smart & Final to purchase the bulk of my grocery items and only head to a regular grocery store for specialty items. read more

I went in to the store to pick up a box of pasta, went through the 10 items or less line. The cashier named Ty I believe waited on me. She did not say one word to me during the whole transition, I had the feeling that she felt it was an inconvenience for her to wait on me. This is very poor customer service. Connie is absolutely the rudest cashier at the store. She has never once asked me how I'm doing, but I have heard her ask other people in line how they're doing, so maybe she's intimidated by me. Plenty of parking. Store was clean it's still early and already they are out of hotdog and hamburger buns. Not cool. Today I was going into Smart & Final in Tulare Ca ( our local store). I was told that I would not be able to shop if I was not going to put a mask on. I did not and did not shop! At what time does a company tell its paying customers to enter a store and spend money that the Must put on a mask? I understand the employees to protect them, but a paying customer that supporting your business? NO I will not shop any your establishment any more. Not even wen this is all over(covid-19). Went to this location really quick today. I always feel like this place is a lot cleaner and less busy than the Visalia location which I like. I've always had to wait in a long line in Visalia. Love the prices and the produce always looks great. The cashier was also nice and asked how our day was. Overall, great experience, will be back and may even make the drive out to this location just because of the experience. read more

Everytime i go shopping here they hav prices listed on a big sign but wen u get to the register it nevr rings up sale price..... i go shopping once a week so i get charged @least a dollar more than the item priced to sale....why is this???
