We first visited Sherborne in 2002 and while we visit the Cotswolds a few times per month, we had…read morefailed to return until a sunny Sunday in August 2011 when we made the 1hr 15 min journey from Bham via M40 and Moreton and Stow. There are some good National Trust walks in the area and the NT web site recommended the Sherborne shop for refreshments so we decided to start off with lunch there and then walk. Parking was easy on the road and we were lucky that one of the 3 tables on the lawn out front had emptied while we were placing our order. I went for a platter which came with pates, olives, 'saucission' and some cheeses, a bit like a Greek Meze I guess, it was generally interesting and tasty but the white sliced bread that accompanied was a bit disappointing consider the quality of the other items My partner went for an egg and cress sandwich which was good though she late wished she had the platter, no reflection on the sandwich though! We had to relocate inside as wasps had taken a fancy to our Cokes and this was a pity on such a perfectly sunny day especially when it was uncomfortably hot inside. I finished off with a cafetiere of coffee which was spot on and produced two good cups. The ladies that run the shop are very friendly and the young lad that helps out is very courteous and polite. The walks are available are many and varied, the whole area is very special indeed though try and keep away from the A40 as within 1/2 mile it can be heard clearly.

The Coffee House - Yummmm. Roast chicken panini with mayo, tomato, chives. Small side salad. Relish.

Yum! I have to…read moreadmit I was a bit worried about this when my husband and I wandered in during our brief 1-hour stop here on a day-trip with a guided tour company. We were pointed to this place as a good and popular spot with those on our trip so we decided to take the advice of others and give it a go. It's small and nondescript from the street but we walked in and found a bustling coffee shop vibe with folks sitting on comfy chairs and couches in the main part near a fireplace and some seating in the back. We squeezed in between two couples (one with a dog laying down beside their table) and were provided menus. They also have an outdoor terrace space you can eat at but it was a bit cold for that. Their menu features several coffee drinks, sandwiches (either on bread, as a baguette or panini), burgers, and some traditional English fare like some bangers and mash daily special I saw. I went with the chicken panini which was basically just roast chicken breast sliced in small chewable pieces, with mayonnaise, chives, and tomato. It was absolutely delicious and was served with a small house salad with balsamic dressing. My husband ordered their burger but opted to only get the burger with a bun and ketchup and mayonnaise bc he has the sophisticated palette of a third grader. Still, he said it was "OK". He ordered a mocha and said it was delicious. The older couple on our right were very nice and we had a pleasant conversation with them about travel and life in general. They ordered cake and ice cream and it looked delicious but we decided to be good. We had a very good experience here and a very good meal. I left happy and full and felt good about what I had eaten. I saw a sign on their wall that said they don't serve fast food, they serve good food as fast as they can. And they did! Well worth a stop in if you are in this area of the Cotswolds.
