Dr Smaldone's office randomly reached out to me to check in as I hadn't been in a while. It was a miracle on a day that I was really needing some help with being so out of whack that I could hardly walk! They got me right in. In addition to correcting ankles, knees, hips and spine, Dr. Smaldone taped my knee, which also helped immensely. I have been recovering well, with a 1 week follow up, then 2 week, now monthly. I'm hoping to recover from him cracking my back. I told him I was delicate. What does that mean? That means don't crack my back. I was having serious upper back issues. That's why I came. My lower back wasn't that great either but it usually resolves itself. HE felt I had more pain in my lower back. At that moment perhaps but I didn't need him to make it worse. I went to a spine specialist. He gave me exercises. And it's improving slowly and I'm being treated with O&M There was something creepy and manipulative about him. I almost came back. I almost thought he hurts people on purpose so they keep coming back so he can fix it. In short, don't come here if you're female, thin and over 50. If you're overweight or young you might survive but he is creepy. There is that. Not to mention the receptionist (nice girl poor thing) seems mesmerized by him. So weird. I seldom give scathing reviews but some of us more fragile types(thin boned people ) should be warned. read more

Dr. Smaldone is a fantastic chiropractor. I moved to his office almost a year ago. He has offices in both New Paltz and uptown Kingston. His staff is friendly and helpful. Both locations are convenient and clean. Dr. Smaldone is friendly, kind, takes his time with his patients and knows his stuff. He is gentle in his adjustments and decides on specific adjustments that are necessary for you ailment and where he feels you are misaligned. I appreciate his thoughtfulness. After suffering from some intense jaw, neck and back pains due to my pregnancy I decided to see Dr. Smaldone. I was very nervous but he explained everything he was doing and was very gentle. After just one visit my jaw pain is gone. I woke up the next morning and almost cried because it was such an amazing relief. After the second visit my neck and back pain is almost gone too. I had been going to Smaldone's for about four months to help ease the pain of a herniated disc and nasty, nasty sciatica. Now, I have to say, with my first few visits with the guy and presenting him with a copy of my MRI, he assured me I WOULD NOT need surgery. He told me I would be 'dancing into my surgeon's office and laughing about not needing surgery.' Fast forward four months and over $700 in office visits later, I'm awaiting a pulmonologist's approval for surgery. My gripe - 'Dr. Dave' - DO NOT claim to have magical healing powers and assure me I won't need surgery. You are not a magical savior that will put all physicians out of business. You are an overly cocky chiropractor who instead of being honest and saying you could temporally assist with my pain, really tried to sell me a song and dance of lumbar wellness providing I pay you $50 a pop once a week. I also do not appreciate you badgering me during a visit about my friend canceling her exam last minute and how she would have to pay you a cancellation fee. Ummm, can you say HIPPA VIOLATION?! Dr. Dave - my suggestion, if you want to be 'Joe-Cool-Jesus-Save-Us-All-From-Pain', concentrate a little more on your profession and honing your skill rather than being worried how much money you're soaking your patients for. read more

I usually don't leave reviews but I want to let people know that he is not a profesional! I went to David about ten years ago for neck pain because he was highly recommended by someone I worked with, and after about a month and a half of sessions I wasn't seeing any improvement. He insisted on payment of a large sum of money upfront. The last time I saw him I told him that I was going to take a break from chiropractic care and get some massage. He spent about 20 minutes angrily arguing with me as to why I should continue with him, even mentioning that he had a car payment, that I guess I was partly responsible for. Since I had pre-paid I asked for a final adjustment and he said 'NO!' I later went to an orthopedist and found out that I had a bulging disk with slight hernation. After about two sessions of PT, I felt 70% better. Dr. Smaldone is very unprofessional. If you want a fantastic chirpractor who really helps, go to Well Within Chiropractic in New Paltz. read more

I don't know about other patients, but I can tell you that my experience and that of my husband was better than good, it was great. I could barely walk I was in such pain. I had laid on my bed for 5 days suffering. I had gone to a walk in clinic and they gave me a injection for pain, it lasted maybe 1 hour. Then I went to Kingston Hospital and they gave me morphine, but it faded quickly too. Both places told me it was sciatica. My very first visit to Dr. Smaldone he told me my hip was out of joint, and he fixed it! I was able to walk out and after only 3 more visits, my pain was gone. This happened several years ago, but I still go to Dr. Dave about twice a year. He was great! read more

I made an appointment with Smaldone and was asked to come in early to fill out paperwork. When I arrived there was no one at the front desk so I sat down and waited. I heard snoring coming from the other room and assumed it was a patient. 15 minutes later, I still hadn't been helped yet because the snoring was actually "Dr. Dave" taking a nap in the office. Once he had awoken, Dave had me fill out paperwork, took my history, and started on my adjustment. I have been going to chiropractors for years, but I have never had an adjustment that HURT until I went to Smaldone. I had more pain after the adjustment than I did going in. After I specifically noted on the paperwork I filed out I was looking for RELIEF care, not CORRECTIVE care, Dave informed me that I would need to purchase a $150 "posture-correcting shirt" in order to, well, correct my posture. He said he "couldn't really" help me without it, and it was "unfortunately" not covered by insurance, so I should think of it as an "early Christmas present to myself". Before I could even say I wasn't interested, he told me I needed to set up an appointment for a fitting the following week. Unfazed by my surprise, Dr. Dave continued on with the visit by putting some sort of sports tape on my neck and sent me on my way. When I got to the front desk, the receptionist informed me the tape was going to be a $10 charge because again it was "unfortunately" not covered by the insurance. A little disgusted, I paid the $10 and left. I called back two days later to ask for my $10 to be refunded to me, I didn't understand why I wasn't informed about the charge before it had been done. The receptionist put me on hold and I spoke with Dave directly. When I told him I would like my money refunded, he laughed at me and said that it was posted in the receptionists' office that I would be charged for that (Not to mention I spent 15 minutes looking that office up and down while I listened to him snore, and saw no such sign). When I told Dave I didn't see the sign, he said it "wasn't his job" to inform me of the charge. A little aggravated, I said I disagreed. He then proceeded to raise his voice, accused me of "riding him", talked over me, and then hung up on me. The worst care I have ever received, they seemed much more interested in my money than my care. I will never go back. read more
