We contacted SM Electric to give us a quote for some extensive work we needed done on our recently purchased home in Topanga Canyon: 1) upgrade main service panel; 2) inspect/advise on dubious garage wiring; 3) separate exterior garage light switch circuit; 4) fix 3-way hall lighting operation; 5) install recessed ceiling lights; 6) install ceiling fan; 7) run 220V supply to oven area (we're replacing propane with electric). Sagiv, the owner of SM, came by at the appointed time and did a very thorough inspection of the garage wiring, service panel, interior wall areas near the service panel, room where recessed lighting and fan would be and the oven area and proximity to service panel. He was very professional and answered all my questions and concerns. (Footnote: If you have a panel upgrade done, be advised to ask lots of questions regarding where interior and exterior walls may need to be opened. In our case: it was in the corner of our living room and exterior above/around the panel. Fortunately, Sagiv was very open/honest about this issue and offered suggestions/references of qualified drywall and stucco patch experts to follow-up. In fact, we used his recommended stucco expert (within days of the panel upgrade completion); and they did a fantastic job! ) Needless to say, we were pleased with the quote and Sagiv and hired SM Electric for all the work. They were able to start within a few days. His crew was very professional and made sure to cover furniture, flooring and surrounding areas when they were cutting into drywall; and cleaned up afterwards, and even installed some really nifty dimmers to control the recessed lights (I had requested). They even assembled the ceiling fan out of the box (I was not expecting that). The garage rewire required extensive ripping out of potentially hazardous circuits/wires; and they replaced with proper BX wire and installed new (more accessible) outlets too. It looks great. They were able to run the new 220V oven supply (in EMT pipe) around the garage ceiling/corner and up/into the kitchen (through the wall), with little need to open any interior walls. It was neatly done. While we did not have the replacement electric oven available when SM was done, Sagiv assured us they would come by when the oven arrives and adjust the box location as needed. The project took a few weeks to complete and SM Electric took care of all the permits and SoCal Edison arrangements. But, they were always punctual at the appointed times; and Sagiv was always available to discuss/answer any questions. We've had a great experience working with SM Electric; and look forward to working with them again when we remodel the front of the house. read more

I contacted my home warranty for an electric issue. They set something up with SM Electric. When SM Electric finally called me to set up an appointment, the person on the phone was extremely rude. She would/could not accommodate a weekend or afternoon/evening call. There wasn't even a maybe this day or anything. She was just "NO!" So after I agreed to take a day off work to do this, she called me back to demand that I provide parking for her technician. I told her that street parking was available and she told me this was unacceptable and then asked "Don't you have a garage?" When I told her that the technician would need to park on the street, she yelled at me that this was unacceptable and went on and on about it. Other people in my room could hear her yelling through the phone even though it wasn't on speaker. Then she told me to call my insurance and request a new company. The rudeness is unacceptable. No one deserves to be yelled at by a company supposedly providing a service. read more

I love when you call an electrician with an urgent problem and they respond with the same urgency. Vladi was great in handling my appointment and making sure I was seen first thing the next morning. My call was for switches that got really hot and covered through my home warranty insurance. My problem was that my light bulbs wattage was too high for my dimmer lights and I can either replace the dimmers or replace with lower wattage light bulbs (I chose the latter) Although the electrician did not complete any work, Simon was very informative and pleasant. read more

They came today to fix a problem caused by Edison after a power surge that affected our neighborhood. We had two rooms where electricity outlets did not work. Turned out to be two fuse switches in the circuit breaker which failed due to the Edison surge/outage. The two electricians identified the problem and fixed it and we're very professional. read more

The same technician from SM Electric was sent out by my home warranty company multiple times. His way of resolving our issues was to continue to reset the faulty circuit breaker, something that I could have done myself. He was clearly unable to diagnose the problem and, in fact, did not seem like he even wanted to be there. (At one point he complained that he had to drive a good distance to make the service call.) Long story short, our home warranty agreed to let us hire an electrician of our choice, who diagnosed the problem and fixed it in a couple of hours. Shockingly, his way of fixing the problem was not to reset the circuit breaker and leave within ten minutes. read more
