This results in poor sleep quality that makes you tired during the day. Sleep apnea is one of the leading causes of excessive daytime sleepiness). Well my scheduled appointment for the study was actually a week away, but I totally got the dates mixed up and ended showing up a week ahead (last night actually). The technician at the front, who also was walking in when I did), was so pleasant and insisted that although my scheduled time was a week away, to please wait an extra hour in case someone did cancel or was a no show. She said that this one person has canceled or was a no show three times in the past and she would really like me not to waste my drive here. So of course, I waited in this pleasantly decorated reception area and counted down the hour. Low and behold (big surprise) he never showed up so they accommodated me. This was a really good thing because I was there already and the fact that she accommodated me was awesome. Now, the actual rooms you are given makes it seem as if you are in a nice 4 star hotel suite. I mean, its a nice moss green (very soothing) with your own bathroom (nicely decorated glass in green tile, shower, you know the works). The technicians came in and explained the WHOLE procedure to me, and I proceeded to go into la la land. Although of course I had wires everywhere and I was being monitored all night for different rhythms in my brain. I thought this place to be extremely professional and wow, the staff are just as nice as can be. In the morning, they wake you up (5 AM.) and let you complete your study with an hour of getting ready, so of course I showered and left. I just think that this was a really nice experience and hopefully I will get answers as to why I am having restless nights. I did appreciate also that they share parking with Leona's (next door) and for Oak Park this is a must since you will get a ticket if you park in the street. Kudos to the Medical Sleep Disorder Center.

He prescribed me more CBT-I. It was in the goddamn referral that CBT-I had already failed. What a waste of my time and money. He also made a blanket statement "medication is never the answer." Not, "medication is a last resort", not "medication should not be used lightly," but "medication is never the answer." That's a religious statement, not a scientific one. When I mentioned my experience with CBT-I and how it made my sleep problems worse, he said he wasn't an expert on CBT-I. He literally claimed ignorance on a treatment he just tried to sell me. It would be as if an orthopedic surgeon had said "I'm not an expert on physical therapy." At that point you'd seek a different surgeon. I had to pry a sleep study out of him, he was resistant to even giving me a sleep study, saying I should retry CBT-I, a treatment that had already failed me once before. I ended up canceling the sleep study and saught treatment elsewhere with better results. I decided that given how poorly the doctor had listened during the session, I didn't trust him to actually interpret the results in good faith.

My CBT-therapist Dr. Scherer was helpful in introducing me to CBT-I and, as I said earlier, the overall benefit I received from him and this program was significant, and I'm grateful for that. Dr. Scherer himself I've found to be cold, a bit stiff, without a whole lot of relational or empathic ability.

Then I was recommended to visit Dr.Girgis. He took simple diagnosis steps. After my first visit I started noticing that I was breathing very unevenly, with obstructed flow on one side. On my second visit, Dr.Girgis pinpointed a suspicion and confirmed it with a quick CT scan showing an almost golf ball size cyst in my sinuses, as well as deviated septum. The cyst must had been growing slowly so I never detected a sudden change in my breathing. He recommended surgery to remove it and promised I will breathing much better afterwards. He advised that I will need to take a week off, and will take a few weeks to fully recover. I doubted that I will need a week off from my work, and we scheduled the procedure a few weeks afterwards. After surgery that went well and as planned (I was sleeping 3 hours or so), the healing process started. My nose kept bleeding but on the third day after surgery I experienced a short deep sleep that was the "Ah-ha! This is like it should be when you get a good night of sleep!" moment. I went back to work, and have aggravated my nose, and had difficult time coping with my constant nose bleeding that progressively slowly stopped by the 6th day. I was surprised when on the 6th day after surgery dr.Girgis pulled two 5 inch long plastic stems from my nostrils and a long draining tube... Hahaha. Two months after surgery my inner nose and its lining are almost normal, just a touch sensitive (well, the septum was cut and repositioned). At the end, it was all worth it. Girgis and all his staff were always very professional, and friendly. My breathing and quality of sleep has dramatically improved. And I got my life back, Big Thank You Dr.Girgis.

The worst experience I have ever had with a medical office. Their office's patient management is…read moreabsolutely infuriating, and the treatment feels like they are pressuring you into quick fixes, not providing informed care. I did a sleep study here and was diagnosed with sleep apnea by Dr. Friedman in 2023, after which I received an oral appliance from their in-office orthodontist. I stopped treatment with them for the first time because The Chicago Sleep Center, which is under their umbrella, was supposed to do a follow-up study and completely bungled my scheduling: they did not respond to my calls requesting an appointment confirmation, but their automated system texted me to bring three items for my sleep study. When I arrived, the nurse asked if I provided a fourth item that they did not list, which was a small plastic piece for the oral appliance that they easily could have had in the office. My whole appointment was cancelled, and the nurse on duty reacted like this happens often. When the office called to reschedule, they blamed me for not bringing the plastic pieces, and I was so frustrated I stopped care entirely. Two years later, I hoped to restart treatment and asked if I could get a sleep study done somewhere else and submit the results to Dr. Friedman. They told me to come in and said I could do another at-home study instead, after which I would have a telehealth follow-up to discuss the results. The telehealth follow-up was a repeat of the terrible communication at the sleep center. I had to call the day before to ask how the appointment would work, and I was told I would receive a phone call at the appointment time. An hour before the appointment time, I got a text telling me Dr. Friedman was "in my waiting room" with a link that didn't work and a voicemail telling me to call the office to "take care of my appointment." I couldn't even get in touch with the office because it was before their opening time at 8:30, so I just had to wait, fuming because I thought I had missed my appointment entirely. The next two hours was a back and forth about how my appointment would happen: they sent another link that didn't work, then said they would call, then eventually asked if they could FaceTime, which I'm sure is some sort of HIPAA violation. When I told the staff member who had left me a voicemail that I couldn't call him back because it was before office hours, he just said, "Oh right, I forgot about that :)" I couldn't help but just stare at him in disbelief over FaceTime. I could barely hear Dr. Friedman over the video call, and he told me my most recent sleep study did not show I had sleep apnea (???) and that he was recommending two "quick, easy" outpatient operations to address...something? I didn't know what the root cause was, and the visit summary notes were convoluted and listed multiple issues that he didn't mention over the call. I cancelled the appointment two days before because I really felt like I was being pressured into it. I was not notified of potential side effects, why I was having an operation, or even what operation specifically I was having, and when I called the office to ask the name of the operation, the receptionist couldn't tell me and seemed annoyed that she would have to put me through to the medical staff. I will be happily going somewhere else.

The staff is knowledgeable, kind, attentive, and incredibly helpful. I have nothing but praise for the medical care itself. However, trying to get a taxi out of this building is an absolute nightmare and deeply unorganized. While there is a direct phone line to request a cab, the system is entirely broken. All you get from the dispatchers is a vague acknowledgment that a car is on the way. You are left to wait and wait. Worse yet, even when you are finally assigned a specific cab number, there is zero order outside; other people will routinely jump ahead and take your designated taxi, forcing you to start the entire process over again. This chaotic, confusing setup is incredibly difficult and stressful for people who are ill, exhausted, or unfamiliar with the area. The medical staff deserves five stars, but Rush urgently needs to organize its passenger pickup system to protect its patients.

My son has mild ASD. Kids with ASD need a schedule to know what is coming next. In addition, my son is starting Kindergarten soon, so for his speech and OT, we need it to be in the evening or on the weekend. On the phone with scheduling, they told me there was plenty of weekend and evening availability for speech and OT. They scheduled us for the evaluations and did them. When it came time to schedule his appointments they don't have a schedule. Suddenly, they don't have availabilities on evenings and weekends. Moreover, they don't really have a set schedule you can create. They'll just call me in the morning if they have availability. Then they want me to pull my son from school SUDDENLY and take him to a random appointment he was not aware was happening. All of that uncertainty is TERRIBLE for kids on the spectrum. It means that they'll be living their lives in anxiety over if they will be suddenly pulled from school for an appointment. They won't be able to focus on school, and they will miss out on quality education time. When I pointed this out to the schedulers (I talked to many, including supervisors), they said, "well, that's just the way we do things." I was also told that a "good mom" would pull their kid from school whenever THEY want me to. FINALLY, the speech therapist that did his assessment got him scheduled for weekly evening appointments. He has his first appointment and the therapist was so great. She even gave me activities to do with him outside of therapy. Great! The next morning, scheduling called me to tell me that therapist is leaving the practice, so they are cancelling all our scheduled appointments. They again told me I have to just wait for them to call during a random day and I will have to pull my son from school. The ugly: I am currently contemplating a civil law suit. We found an occupational therapist with weekend availability. THEY almost didn't take us because you aren't supposed to have multiple OT eval within 6 months. But they agreed to take us if I could get access to the eval Fransiscan did. It took many calls and emails and putting in a complaint with legal that they are violating Hippa by refusing to give me my son's medical data that they were holding hostage. Where does that stand now? Well, I am about to pay EXTRA to the new OT because they had to redo the assessment because Fransiscan still hasn't given me my son's data after about a month of a fight. They claimed they have the package or me to pick up at any time waiting at their front desk. I have been there 3 times to pick it up and every time I go, the front desk workers say there is nothing there for me to pick up. It is about 25-30 minute drive there and the same back home each time. Each time the front desk has no clue what I am talking about. NOW, apart from my son, I am dealing with the similar thing for me. My PT. The person that did my PT eval said I need to go once a week for 6 weeks and then they will re-evaluate. That was in March. It is now Almost august, and they have fit me in once. I have had 1 appointment. My doctor was shocked that I had only been seen once, and is in favor of me "jumping ship." That's right, the doctors in this system know that scheduling is so messed up they are recommending you use other therapy services. SO....If you want to go to a therapist that breaks hippa laws and does not give a rats butt about patient outcomes, go here. If you want services, go literally anywhere else.
