Whilst visiting for a wedding my partner and I spent the next day in Bournemouth. We felt like a pub lunch/dinner and decided on the Slug & Lettuce. Upon arrival we noticed a veranda outside where you could sit and enjoy the view of the town centre... But as I was a bit chilly we opted to sit inside. The decor is fresh, bright and welcoming, with lots of space, tables and booths. A friendly waitress welcomed us asking is we had visited before which we informed her this was our first visit. She told us to have a look around and pick any table we like, we choose a very comfy (large armchairs) two seater table by the window which overlooked the town centre. The menus were already on the table so we flicked through, a waitress came over to see if we were ready to order drinks which we weren't so she gave us a few more minutes. The drink and food menus are very big with plenty of choice. We opted for the 241 cocktails (although the price for one is very steep anyway so not much difference), which are offered all day everyday and choose a strawberry mojito and a dune bug. We picked a starter of chicken goujons to share and I ordered two small plates one cheesey bacon topped fries and calamari whilst my partner opted for the Korean burger. Our drinks arrived and were tasty and definitely not lacking in alcohol content! The food arrived about 45 minutes later and was well presented. The chicken goujons were of a good size and crispy and what you would expect them to be, the calamari was slightly overcooked but edible, the sweet chilli that accompanied the dish was awful though so I opted to make my own sauce from the condiments supplied!
My cheesey bacon fries unfortunately we're a disaster, the fries themselves were great, thin and crispy however the cheese and bacon were not. The cheese tasted very cheap and had a horrible after taste and the bacon was not cooked enough for me. I explained this to a member of staff who quickly resolved the issue by taking it off my bill and offering me something else. I opted to just finish my calamari as I wasn't very hungry at this point. My partners burger was tasty especially the spring rolls, the pattie however was a little dry as no sauce was provided ie something to go with the Korean flavours, luckily we had ketchup on the table.
Overall the decor is welcoming and bright, good atmosphere and background music, excellent service and a large menu offering pub grub with a twist. Good for a drink or cheapish pub meal. read more
