My wife and I recently bought our first house and we went with SLS for our inspection. Scott was almost unbelievably helpful. In short, I absolutely recommend him. He explained what he saw as he saw it. He answered every question I had (provided it was his specialty). He was clear when he didn't know the answer or when some specialist would be better equipped to answer my questions. I had some concerns about a bubble in an exterior wall so he brought out this high-tech thermal camera and explained what it meant that the spot was a different temperature than the surrounding area. He asked if I wanted to see the attic and even gave me a few helpful tips on managing all of the cellulose insulation. Finally, he explained the report he was going to put together. I hired this company to purchase my forever home for my son and me. I am not a contractor so I relied heavily on what I was told during my inspection to negotiate the price or our future home. I was told the roof needed "some repairs" in which I was going to have a addressed so I could make the roof last another few years. I was told when I asked the inspector directly about the condition of the roof....that the roof had "time left on it". However less than 2 months after closing i had a roofer recommended by this very inspector come give me estimate for some repairs and was told I needed a whole roof. This inspector is garbage and the warranty they advertise is only to protect themselves. The pictures taken of my home were just used against me and in my opinion the advice I was given during the inspection was garbage. Less than 2 months after closing I have to spend $10000 on a new roof; emphasis on "I". read more

I am a first time home buyer which is scary in itself. Scott made the inspection process very easy, and explained exactly what he was doing in very simple terms. He took the time to go through everything completely, and even mentioned a few things that were not even on the inspection sheet. The inspector put his foot through the ceiling. I used Scott and his company SLS Inspections before and was happy, but this time I had a terrible experience. Luke performed my inspection, and he was professional until he was in the attic and stepped one foot off of the beams and onto the drywall, putting a foot through and damaging the ceiling. From that point forward, he was flustered and the inspection went downhill quickly. He continually opened and left the door open near the Radon testing machine, which can effect it's results. I added an upgrade service including mold inspection and thermal imaging, and that wasn't done in a thorough manner. I emailed Luke my concerns, and received an unprofessional response. I then emailed Scott (the owner) with questions and received no reply for 4 days- he later said he was out of town and out off cell range. Scott subcontracted a Radon testing company, and I wanted to talk to them to see if the test was compromised. I asked repeatedly for the contact information for the Radon company, but was told "they will email you". They did not get in contact with me. My lawyer had to file an extension, and wanted to know why I couldn't get the name of the Radon testing company, and only after I told them SLS was unresponsive and gave my lawyer SLS' information, did I get a response with the name and contact info of the Radon testing company. When I raised concerns about the inspection, Scott replied it was a "teaching moment" for Luke. When I pointed out that I didn't pay for a teaching moment, but a professional inspection, I was offered a refund. The refund offer came with a waiver, which I gave to my lawyer. He advised me not to sign it. SLS wanted to waive any liability for the damage they caused. Although SLS repaired the damage, if the repair was not up to standards or homeowners had another accident in the same place, I could be sued as the person who hired the inspection company that caused the damage and made the repair. In my opinion, it's suspect for SLS to want to waive responsibility for damage it caused and it's repair. The waiver also included a paragraph stating that I was unable to review, use social media, or make oral statements that left the company in a bad light. When I asked the lawyer if I could write a factual review or confide in friends, I was told I could not, as this would put the company in a bad light, even if it was true. I went with my lawyers advice. I didn't sign the waiver, and I didn't get a refund, and I'm out over $500. I understand accidents happen and it's lucky Luke did not fall through the ceiling, but the conduct and series of choices following is what I consider to be unacceptable and unprofessional. read more

When I spoke to the owner on the phone he seemed to be a very professional person with a lot of knowledge. However the inspector that showed up to my house had no idea what he was doing. Didn't go in the crawl space just stuck his head down there. Same thing in the attic. Had no clue how to look at a furnace. It would've been nice to know there was no sump pump before the entire space flooded the week I moved in. Also would've been nice to know the compressor on the air conditioner didn't work. I messaged the owner about these things and absolutely no response. Spent $400 for nothing. Would not recommend these guys at all it would've been the same if I did it myself read more
