Once you get out there are not many places to stop for fuel, snacks or to use the restroom. Stephen's Grocery and Hardware has a large selection of things from your basic C-Store items to some things for camping or minor household repair. The day we stopped there were numerous other customers in line making small purchases. NOTE: The restroom inside the store is locked and there is a sign saying for customer use only, so you have to make a purchase to get the key. I guess this is to stop the random tourist from coming in for a bathroom break. The restroom was clean and neat and worked on our stop. The prices of the C-Store items are much higher than what you will find in larger chain C-Stores but they probably pay a lot more buying in smaller quantity and there is not any competitor in the area.

There's a grocery section with way more than your typical convenience store. (Be sure to try the bologna and cheese. I don't remember the story but I know it's local and it's awesome.) There's a hardware section that will allow you to fix just about any basic emergency. There's a feed-store section too - if you have dogs, cats, horses, goats, chickens (and we do! All of the above!), they've got you covered. There's also a gas station. Out front is all the normal stuff, with automatic pumps. Off to the side, you can get diesel and 100% gasoline (no ethanol or other additives). No credit card reader there, so you have to go inside, but nice to have. We're putting 100% in our two supercharged vehicles right now and my husband is sure it makes a difference. ;-)

The deli is open for breakfast and lunch and the food is excellent and reasonably priced. At lunchtime they have a hot bar special with an entree (changes daily), drink, and two sides for $6.99. They also offer a weekly special which typically includes a burger, club, or hot deli sandwich, with a drink, and a side for $4-6. I have breakfast or lunch there 4-5 times a week and never had a bad meal.

I was the first customer for an oil change on my car. Sat there 3 hours watching people come and…read morego. After going to the desk to inquire, he pointed to a car through the window and said "isn't that your car?". It wasn't. They did my oil change right away but never told me it was done. Apparently they forgot to tell me. I will never use their vehicle services again. I bought a new Generac generator from the "mechanic" that works on them. When took it out of the box and it was not new. The gas filter where the gas goes in had a hole in it, gas gauge fell into the gas tank. Had oil in it and the air filter casting. I took it back to the guy who sold it to me to exchange for a new one and was told Generac does not allow exchanges, it's under warranty, let's fix it. He completely ignored the fact that it came out of the box used. Over the course of the warranty he refused to fix it. He said, with an condescending attitude, I can look inside the the tank to see how much gas is in it and it's normal to have oil in the air filter casting. Clean it with dish soap, dry it completely. I did this every time I used it. He said it was normal. I've taken this generator back to him several times and called him on the phone. I was putting oil in it every time I had to start it and it never ran well the entire time I had it. I did all the required maintenance on time and have a log to prove it. Long story short, the generator blew up, the warranty is expired and now the same guy who refused to fix it under warranty is very happy to fix it now that the warrant is expired. I've since learned to fix generators myself so I don't get taken advantage of again. This business also lost $300 to $400 a month in propane sales from me. I will never use them again or buy another Generac.

However, upon checking out, there appeared to be drama happening between two employees, several employees were standing around the counter to witness (I suppose) and the two people behind the register who were engaged in tense, whispered conversation with each other looked at me a couple times and then after a bit, I was asked if I was ready. I payed for my item and as she handed me my receipt, she commented to the other employee on the interaction/drama and it was information that I, as a customer, did not need to know nor did I want to know. She also bragged about her upcoming time away and how she'd be "far from here". I understand; I've worked 13+years in retail and sales. It can tax a person, but when it starts to spill out in front of customers, it needs dealt with. I felt extremely uncomfortable and I'm not sure if I'll continue to patronize this location if this is standard. I will assume not and hopefully, this is a one off.
