I stayed here by myself for one night while passing through Lyon. It was relatively easy to find (though do yourself a favor and print out a Google map beforehand), friendly staff, clean, comfortable, hip furnishings, and nice breakfast. I stayed in a 6-bed all-female dorm and my fellow guests were quiet and respectful. I was assigned a top bunk and was a little self-conscious of how squeaky it was when I shifted my weight, but it didn't seem to be a problem. There is a charger and light next to your head, which is very handy. And I was able to squeeze my duffle bag and purse into one of the locking cubbies, and secure it with a combination lock. The place felt very secure. You wave your keycard to get into the main door, the lobby is staffed, and you wave your keycard to get into your room.
The bathrooms were clean, but the shower was a bit of a squeeze. There's not much room to have your clothes and toiletries, though there is a stool outside of the stall. Bring a plastic bag that you can hang from the corner of the door or the doorknob.
The communal areas were very nice to relax in. There was outdoor seating in the courtyard, cool IKEA sort of furnishing in the lobby, and strong consistent Wi-Fi throughout. The breakfast (cereal, granola, baguette, croissant, coffee, tea, juice, milk) saved me from wandering the morning of my departure hungry and lugging around all my stuff. The multilingual staff were very helpful in answering my questions about getting to the station for my departing train.
My one small complaint was that I returned to the hostel on foot after dark (9 or 10 pm) and while the area immediately around the hostel wasn't sketchy, the walk from Vieux Lyon to the hostel takes you through a part of town with groups of guys hanging out leering at single women. I didn't have any trouble, but it wasn't nice. No issues during the day, though. read more
