It is located in a quiet historic basement of a building called "The Mall", on 474 Central. You can take the elevator or the stairs. The entry to the staircase is to the right of the Mizuki Grill. In the basement, you will find Tiffany style light shades overhead and stained glass pieces along the way. You will encounter a person walking towards you and then notice they are wearing the same outfit.. Oh, it's a mirror. A giant mirror. So just past the mirror is the friendly shoe and purse repair. The quality of his work is great and the turnaround time is very reasonable. It took only a couple of days to get the soles replaced on my husband's shoes. I appreciated that all the shoes for pick-up were conveniently placed in a paper bags so you don't have to carry them out in the open. A nice finishing touch. The downside: He takes cash only. The good thing is that he writes the price on the claim ticket and you pay when you pick your items up.

My mother was a long time customer of this store. She brought in her pair of Italian AGL shoes to…read moreget her shoes resoled and get a new heal. She got busy and forgot she dropped them off for a few months. She then remembered and went back, with the receipt, to pick up her shoes. The store owner was a complete jerk and accused her of already picking up the shoe. She then insisted that she had not. The store gave her shoes away and said they had been there for too long. The store has her phone number and never did place a call to her as a reminder. They just gave away her shoes that are worth almost $400 bucks. A call to remind the customer is a reasonable expectation. They never made a call, gave away her shoes and now they lost a customer. I wonder if the store owner sold them and that is his side hustle. We have been going to Philip's Shoe Clinic for decades, not just for shoe soles and heels, but also…read morefor luggage and even briefcase repairs. It had been six years since my last visit, but I recently returned this past Tuesday. While I was on an overseas vacation, I was in a rush and accidentally caught part of a Ziploc bag in my purse's zipper. The more I tried to fix it, the worse it became. Eventually, I managed to get the zipper almost all the way open, but it remained stuck and would not close for the rest of the trip. Thankfully, the purse had two major compartments with separate zippers, so I was still able to use it. When I got back, I brought the purse to Philip's Shoe Clinic, unsure if it could even be repaired. Oscar came out from the back of the shop to greet me. He was so considerate and did not want to handle my purse with his hands dirty from work, so he did not fully assess the damage at first. Still, he gave me a very reasonable estimate of $14 and said it would be ready in two days. To my delight, the purse was ready on time, and the zipper worked perfectly. Even better, Oscar only charged me $10 instead of $14. I truly appreciated his honesty. We chatted a bit, and I learned that Oscar has been the owner of the shop for the past nine years, although he has worked there since the 1990s. When the previous owner retired, she asked Oscar to take over, and he has been running it ever since. That explains why the high quality of work has never changed. This was not the first time Oscar showed such generosity. On two separate occasions, he did not charge me at all. Once was for punching extra holes in the strap of a crossbody bag so I could shorten it. Another time, about six years ago, a family member got some fabric caught in the zipper of a short jacket and had to take it off like a pullover. Oscar was able to fix it right away while I waited. Oscar is not only skilled but also kind and helpful. I feel so fortunate to have Philip's Shoe Clinic in our neighborhood. I highly recommend it.

When there was a slight hiccup with one of the repairs, he promptly reworked it with an even sturdier alternative fix--and even offered me a 1 yr. warranty! Great experience.
