After the first set we bought broke and was…read morerecalled from this location, Walter was very friendly in helping us find the perfect couch for us. I explained that we have animals in our house and that a leather couch and loveseat would not be good for us. He then explained the 3 year extended warranty and that it covers cat scratches. I could not believe what I just heard so I had to ask again. He said that it covers scratches, accidental tears, spills, etc. So we decided to pay the extra for the 3 year warranty because we fell in love with a leather set. After not even a year, I called Protectant (3 year warranty company) and the lady informed me that they do not cover cat scratches. I was very upset because my young furry children did indeed scratch one of the pieces. I called the store, tech came out. I also asked for my refund of the 3 year warranty and told the owner of my problems I experienced. He told me that I can only get a prorated amount because I have had access to the warranty since March 2018. I called corporate and they said that they could not do anything since he was an owner. Another corporate tech came out last Friday but was suppose to come out that Thursday. No one called to tell us that he had a family emergency Thursday and could not be there. So today I called and talked with LeBron (owner) again and he informs me that since the couch has cat scratches on it that it voids the warranty and that it is now up to Quality Assurance to get a Exchange approved. I then also asked about the 3 year warranty refund status. He said that there was a glitch in the system but fixed it last Tuesday. I NEVER GOT A CALL! He then asked if I would like him to process my refund today. At this point, I'm furious. I said yes since you were suppose to process it 2 weeks ago. I told him that I will never use this company again. His response was rude and that he had a note that I would never use the company again and that he also has it noted that I wouldn't even walk past the door. (I never said that I would never walk past the door) but after today, YOU BET I WIL NOT! Bottom line I was lied to from the beginning and this is how they treat their customers.

We began our rental contract in February, 2018 prior to this lady taking over as manager, or would never have rented from here. We have made every payment for nearly a year now, being late twice (with permission from Connie to be late) - and our Bank Statements and receipts bare out that claim. The cash price for the items we rent is shown as more than the retail value of the items if they were brand new, yet we received used equipment (as indicated by scratches and dents on the appliances, and the fact that they are marked as used appliances in the rental agreement). Previous experiences with American Rental have been excellent, though they were not at this store. Throughout nearly a decade of renting to own various items from American Rental, I've never defaulted on a contract, nor had any complaints about the pricing or management. My mother, brother, sister, some aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and several friends all rent various items from American Rental. This experience has made me determined to never use American Rental again, and even more determined to see all of my friends and family take their business elsewhere as well. I would not recommend the Athens, TN American Rental Store to anyone.
