The room was clean, comfortable and updated with a view out the back. We stayed in the connected rooms so it was like a motel but they also had separate cottages behind that to stay in. The family that runs it must live near one end where you can see piles of stuff all over. I admit that looked really bad so i was afraid of what the room would be like and my wife and I enjoyed our stay there. We would book another room there, no problem. It was also affordable. This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. Specifically, I had an interaction with staff members that left me feeling unwelcome and singled out. From constantly asking "are you checking out early" to "give me the old towels" when asking for additional towels. After expressing my concerns in a review, I attempted to make another reservation at the same location. However, I was told via email by Mary Thoorsell. I could not book with them based on the review I had left, which feels retaliatory and further discriminatory. I am deeply upset that instead of addressing the issues I raised regarding staff behavior, the hotel chose to cancel my booking and not allow me to return. This feels like a direct violation of my rights as a paying guest, and I find it unacceptable. I said good and not so good things in my initial review but I'm assuming that honesty does not go a long way here. Constructive criticism is not allowed or you will not be able to book again.
