Watching Simpsons on FOX and a roof over my head. Yeah, the area wasn't welcoming but I didn't care and it was the best value for my buck. Water worked. Had plenty of space for clothes and stored food in the fridge. Never had the chance to use the communal kitchen, laundromat and pool. Been 10 years and felt nostalgic to write a review. Thank you again.

The pillows were dirty as well. They had stains of dirt and unsanitary. The restroom door couldn't even close. It was hard to shut it. To make it even worse they allow people all night to hang out on the sidewalk. It was annoying because you can hear everything. People drinking smoking and breaking stuff. It's 2am and I'm trying to sleep. I wasn't happy about having to hear people arguing and fighting outside at 2am. And lastly the parking. You're telling me there was 0 parking. Like how do you wanna run a hotel with no parking. Then they tell me to park on the street. You want me to leave my car outside the gate with those people arguing? They have 2 spot for employees but no one using it and they won't allow you to park there. I had to risk getting towed and moved my car after someone left the parking lot. That is a terrible experience and will never stay here again.

This Hostel took a tremendous part in the beginning of my journey here in LA and United States in…read moregeneral. I booked it through Booking.com when I was in Ukraine. And they communicated with me via email and answered all the questions I asked before I came to USA. It was literally the first place I stayed at after my arrival at LAX. I remember it was very romantic because I used to be a street performer back in Ukraine and I dreamed to dance on Walk of Fame in Hollywood. And as you probably know Walk of Fame Hostel is located right at the Hollywood Boulevard in the very heart of it so you can see rivers of people and characters throughout the window every day. Anyways, I spent there more than a week. And basically, I was satisfied with everything. Their staff is welcoming and always willing to assist you. Rooms are regularly cleaned. Free breakfast from 7 to 9 am in the morning. Besides it's pretty good. You can play pool (I haven't seen it in any other hostel) and there is a space where people hang which creates it's own atmosphere when folks from all over the world interact and communicate with each other. Showers, restrooms, rooms are in a good condition. They have washing machines. Check out prices on their website. I think it's around $40 per night in 6-Bed male dormitory room which is kind of expensive but it's obvious why. And one more thing, you cannot stay more than 21 days !

Across from the busiest area of Hollywood there are two entrances to this hostel. The stairs are…read moresteep but there are two handrails to help. The front desk has two or three employees depending on the time. Everyone was friendly; Barry, Carlos, Niki, Zena, Tosh, Taylor, Miguel and Oscar. I reserved a room online at: https://walkoffamehostel.com/ I reserved a private room and it's not ready until 3 pm. I wish I would have known that before showing up. There is a luggage room with surveillance and I left my bag. I have an expensive Apple PowerBook and they held this behind the front desk. I left and returned at 5 pm to find all of my things cared for during my absence. First observation is aside from the ratty steps at the entrance this place is incredibly clean. The floors, the bathrooms, the ledges, the lounge area, kitchen; there is no dust and the scent of clean is everywhere. I love the hot and cold filtered water machines located all around the public areas. I literally walk ten feet from my room for this. My private room number 3 has a queen bed, refrigerator, tv, cable box and two remotes. I could not get the cable to work but Carlos at the front desk came in and fixed it. He also explained the remotes. The queen size bed is comfortable; I would prefer if it were higher off the floor. I blame my mother for spoiling me. Huge closet area. It's bigger than my master bedroom closet. I have a European air conditioner that I don't need tonight because my big window has a good evening breeze and there is a ceiling fan above the bed. The tv sound and quality is excellent. WiFi power is excellent; this is very important to me. This WiFi is stronger than my stays at Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott and Holiday Inn Suites. The room has some art and good lighting but there are two wall red lamps and I can't find the light switch for them. Miguel came to my room and showed me how to use. The windows facing south of Sunset have lots of noise from the parking employee conversation and laughter. It just echos in the room. I finally closed the double pane windows and there was no longer any noise. To turn the ac I had to go retrieve a remote from the front desk and return it. These ac units are completely silent and work very well. The temperature and lack of noise in my room was excellent. All I could hear was moving air. A friend came over to deliver food and passed by the front desk. They came to knock on the door and asked for his ID; I love that because it's a younger clientele and it feels right. I'm very impressed. Love the location. Lots of charm. There are $40/beds in shared rooms if I wanted to save bucks. The rate with tax for my private room is $131.00. Everyone receives a free continental breakfast. Jimmy Kimmel live is right next door. If you want the LA experience, stay here. History, action, community and all of it in a safe clean and friendly environment. Location location location.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Sometimes with hostels it can either be really good or really bad…read moreand I was pleasantly surprised with Samesun. . It's big and clean and has all the bells and whistles. There's a ton of artwork that is worked into the design of the space so you can easily see graffiti labels on the walls. . I booked a one night stay in an all female four (4) bedroom dorm and only encountered one of three women with whom I was to share the room. They give you a towel for free upon checking in and there's a $10 fee to do laundry for two hours and a $5 fee to stow your luggage if need be. You can find a locker in your room for easy storage and they have changing rooms in the restrooms which are designated for both men and women, thankfully! For the common areas, they have a huge kitchen with several refrigerators, an electric stove and a communal dining table. There's a lounge too with bar seating, a pool table, benches and chairs. You can also find several water filter stations in the building. . There are quiet hours from midnight to 7am which at that time the lounge and kitchen are closed so make sure to eat dinner prior to then. Lastly, they offer a free breakfast from 7am to 9am. I deducted one start because Hollywood can be loud and sketchy at night, but I had no issues. As for parking, it's either paid in a garage or street parking. I was blessed to find free street parking on Hawthorne street which is a short walk from the hostel. I highly recommended and would stay again. . Update: I work in LA often and travel down from the 3 hours or more to do so. I have a ride that is picking me up the day after I was due to check out of Samesun this weekend, but the host/receptionist at the front desk today (a young gentleman with glasses and locs) told me I need proof of ongoing travel leaving Los Angeles in order to stay there. Which I don't have because again, a friend is picking me up post check out. He essentially gave me an ultimatum to book ongoing travel in order to check in or cancel my reservation. Mind you, this was not the procedure when I checked in last week. So, I was in Hollywood with no accommodations for the next two days because the hosts here are inconsistent with carrying out their policies. Just because I don't have a plane or bus or train ticket doesn't mean I'm not leaving the city after I check out. And it's not like they are scanning the travel ticket or asking for the reservation numbers for the travel to put it on the reservation, so it's really unnecessary. . Come to find out, per their policy, if I'm a local USA traveler I could use an out of state driver's license to check in (which I have), but he conveniently left that part out.

On October 16th, I made a forty-four dollar reservation at SameSun Hollywood. While on my way, I…read morecalled with questions and was told I couldn't stay because I'm a local resident, which I find discriminatory and unfair. I never checked in, never set foot inside, and never received any accommodations. What's particularly concerning is that about ten days later, they charged my card forty-four dollars. Why wait so many days to charge me for something they told me I wasn't allowed to use? What justified that delayed charge? Did they assume I wouldn't notice? When I called to question it, the employee suggested I hadn't canceled and treated it as a no-show. How can I be a no-show when I was explicitly told I wasn't permitted to stay? Instead of providing an explanation, he told me to "calm down" and later hung up on me. This is unacceptable customer service and raises serious questions about their billing practices. I would not recommend this place.

Purchased a few nights stay at this hotel in August on trivago, which then took me to Priceline. It…read morewas cheaper on trivago so that was a little confusing. Anyways, the reason I chose this hotel was because previously when we had stayed at universal we went to the Hilton, but that was too expensive at the moment. we went with my brother and his family and the hotel that he stayed at was also a little bit out of our budget so the boulevard is what we chose because it was cheaper and closest to Universal Studios. upon check-in we had to pay for the parking and the hotel fees, which was about $200. The staff was friendly and nice, but just know that if you double park, you have to leave your keys at the front desk so that your car can be moved. If the car in front of you needs to leave, so try to find a spot that's not double parked. There is also a dog park next to the parking garage with a door to get into the dog park from the parking garage so you will see people walking by with dogs or even parking in the garage to go to the dog park. Upon check-in, the room was clean as well as the furniture. The fabric headboard that is nailed to the wall was really dusty. That was the only thing that wasn't clean. The sink and counter in the bathroom has a lot of space. The shower is a little confusing because it has your regular showerhead, but also has a rain showerhead so even though you're using the regular showerhead, water will come from the rain showerhead above which I kinda had to dodge and duck as I was moving through the shower doing my business. The shower curtain in our room was not long enough to touch the floor of the shower therefore, a lot of water comes out of the shower floor onto the tile floor. usually when we stay in hotel rooms we always put a towel on the floor to act as a bathroom mat just so that we don't slip and fall. We did that this time, but there was a lot of water that comes out because the shower curtains are not long enough, so just be aware if you're using this hotel. on the second morning our toilet didn't flush and when we went out that morning, we let the front desk know and they fixed it by the time we came back. I noticed that I didn't hold the toilet handle long enough so I don't know if that was my mistake, but you have to push it and hold it until you hear the water so that you know it's flushing. Instead of just pushing it and assuming it's flushing. either way after it getting fixed and knowing how to pull the handle, we had no more issues. the microwave and the refrigerator was clean. Some of the furniture was chipped. We also noticed that there was smudges and maybe something melted or heated near the TV so there was a little indent on the TV. Also, a lot of the outlets were really loose and it was hard to find a plug to plug in my phone charger. I will attach pictures other than those issues. The room was clean. I did read other reviews of people saying that their rooms were dirty. I didn't experience that but a lot of the hotels in that area are older so it is to be expected, not an excuse though for rooms not to be cleaned. about the area outside and the neighborhood it was ok. Yes there are a few homeless walking around. That's the city , has nothing to do with homeless. But you're going to notice that at any major city so for people to complain about that is pretty ridiculous. The staff was super friendly. You get comped two free drinks at the bar, and the bartender matt is amazing and very personable so you will have fun at the bar. There are a few restaurants within walking distance. I know someone posted that there wasn't but if you look on the maps, they're absolutely is a few restaurants nearby. since there's no breakfast provided at this hotel there is a donut shop at the shopping center a few feet away. my husband went and got me some donuts and breakfast sandwiches and they were really good. if we go to universal again depending on our budget we would most likely stay at this hotel again. They are remodeling an upgrade so be patient with them. We did see them tossing out old furniture and old mattresses. There's also a barber in house. I don't know which floor it is. We did not visit the pool. If you're looking for Chinese, which we were, there is a restaurant named Fortune dragon I did a review for them. It's on Whitsett , about 10 minutes to get there the food was really delicious. We are from the Bay Area and our house so our Chinese restaurants are really good and this one was also really great.

Paid around $275 a night for a room that looked like somebody stopped renovating halfway through…read moreand said, "screw it, people will still pay." The sprinkler head was sitting in a jagged hole in the drywall, there was no headboard, a portable AC unit was shoved into the room like a temporary fix had become permanent, and the whole place had a musty, moldy smell. I woke up with my sinuses irritated as hell. The hallway carpets were disgusting too. The worst part was the staff. They weren't just indifferent--one employee was outright combative when I raised concerns, which is a pretty bold attitude when the property looks like this. I travel constantly for work. I've stayed in dated hotels, cheap hotels, and bare-bones hotels. This was different. This place felt neglected, unfinished, and wildly overpriced. At $275 a night, it was a joke. Save your money and stay somewhere that has finished drywall and a functioning sense of shame.
