Front desk is friendly and helpful. They were able to give me a code to check in late. The mansion has a lot of character. It's a beautiful mansion. love the candlestick and rotary phones. The location is perfect, I didn't have to walk far for a grocery store or near the walk of fame. The two thing I don't like is that the bathroom is not located in the rooms but outside in the hall. I don't think the rooms are accessible as I thought. If you want an accessible dorm room, this is not a place for you; especially if you're in a wheelchair. My Orange Drive Hostel stay was a true price-performer. I stayed in a private room, 2 double beds, with attached bath. The cost was low, the room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was efficient and friendly. As expected there are few amenities: towels are provided but bring your own soap, etc. It's a block away from the Hollywood Blvd. hoopla and a 3 minute walk to the Magic Castle. They do have free Wi-Fi. It's a bed for the night. I would recommend it and would stay there again. read more

Its not the Four Seasons, Hyatt,, Marriot, nor even a Best Western or a Ramada. I'm in my 40s, have never stayed in a Hostel, and staying in a 4-6 person bunk was definitely a no. But this place does have single rooms, and it was only for 1 night. PROS: -Amazing location just a block away from the touristy Hollywood Blvd. -Old, but clean, quiet and bug free. -Surprisingly Spacious Room for a hostel -Comfy bed -Quiet...maybe I got lucky CONS: -$141 still seemed a little steep for a Thursday night -Tiny bathroom -Hand Soap only, no shampoo, conditioner, or lotion. -Your high born trust fund snobby girlfriend/boyfriend/anyone will probably hate this place. Like, really really hate it. -Not romantic at all whatsoever... If all you need is a basic, clean, and quiet place to crash this checks all the boxes. Scored 10/10 I arrived much later than I expected, the journey from airport was easy enough to follow with a Metro Train map. 3 trains, 2 buses & step down less than a block from Orange Drive. Walk down Orange to a beautiful white mansion & green trees. I was warmly greeted, quickly checked in & escorted to the room. I had chosen the women's dorm, as I was traveling alone & enjoy meeting people from all over the world. The owners had even reserved a lower bunk for me, for which I had put in a special request! Bed was very comfortable & in daylight revealed a charming room. Only 3 bunks in this room(nice!) with 2 large windows (w/curtains) & a chair by each bunk & outlets for charging. One thing I would have liked is a lamp for each bed, as it was difficult to get ready in the dark & not disturb other guests. Room was next to WC (convenient) also 2 WC on that floor plus a shower room & at least 2 more WC + shower either up or down the stairs. It was fun to explore the house, which is somewhat like a maze with all the stairways up & down; that's the way large homes were built in 1910. It's beautiful & still retains much original history. Kitchen on lowest floor is adequate, but plenty of refrigerator/freezers, dishware, a sofa and chairs for relaxing. A brick patio area is in the backyard with umbrella tables & chairs. Front yard is beautiful with trees & green grass. Both interior & exterior are very well maintained to a level which is rarely seen in most hostel homes. The house is one block from Hollywood Boulevard & takes you to the Chinese Theatre & all the stars on the sidewalk if you haven't seen that. Target & CVS are in that area (+ MANY souvenir places) Catching the bus/train near the house will take you pretty much anywhere you want in the LA area, including the beach. Every staff I met were pleasant & helpful. They will hold your luggage before(3PM) & after (10am) check-in. I had places to go before my flight departed and they held my bags until I returned and left for the airport. I have stayed at a few hostels in LA, which were nice but now I wouldn't stay anywhere else & can't wait to return. read more

Have stayed here multiple times, convenient, comfortable and is close proximity to Hollywood and beyond, train, bus, tours. a 3-4 minute walk and your on the blvd. Room comfortable, community kitchen with dish/silverware, refrigerators, stoves, micro wave and vending machines . Plenty of community washrooms, some included with room, very clean and very reasonable parking. Will be staying again in the near future, front desk staff very helpful. read more

Loved the room and the hostel. Heater wasn't needed, but worked very well when we tried it. It was nice that the windows opened and provided plenty of fresh air and natural light. Private room had plenty of space for 3 (one full bed and one twin bed). Had a full bath and spacious walk-in closet. Location was excellent. Parking wasn't limited considering the time of year we'd went, but I figure it may be difficult to secure a space during travel season as there are maybe 10ish parking spaces. $10/night for parking. Staff was sincerely some of the most helpful and pleasant staff I've come across in any establishment. Would certainly stay here again! read more

ODH is in an attractive, large historic building just a few blocks from Hollywood Boulevard. The area is calmer, quieter than the busy Boulevard. The interior has a nice large, homey feel, kept clean and organized. There's a nice kitchen downstairs with free pancakes and vending machines when I stayed there. Recommended. read more

I wanted to give a more clear description of the stay in the private en suite in the basement next to the kitchen. The previous review started the bathroom was awkward, it is. The toilet sink and shower are all in the same space. There is a sliding door that keeps you private but that's it. Don't poop. LOL! There is two twin size Ikea beds and a window just about each. The only problem with the wind is that the car port is just above you and the wind may sweep things on to the bed. THE STAFF IS AWESOME! they gave us fresh sheets, no problem. There is TV room with refrigerators and burners in case you want to store or cook. Parking is $10. Pros: Awesome location. I went with two little girls and the location was safe. They loved the TV room. You get what you pay for. Fresh orange juice outside your door in the AM, computers and wifi. Staff is awesome. Cons: It gets hot in the small space. Beds are like dorms. Not really comfy. What I did realize it's that for less than $100 more, I could've found a hotel/motel in the area. However there traffic is crazy and this place was clean! I love this hostel! It makes my trip to L.A. more wonderful and awesome. So, I saw one of the previous reviewer said that he can't use a hairdryer or something that is electrical. Well, I do not have this problem. I used my hair dryer everyday when I was staying there. I got a twin private room which cost me $68 per night but i'm sharing with my friend so basically it is only $34 per night and you can get your own private room. The shared bathroom is just right outside the room! The location of this hostel is perfect! Hollywood blvd is just right down the street. Grocery stores like CVS and 'Fresh and Eat' is just few minutes walk away. The wax museum and chinese theater are just right around the corner! Besides that, metro subway is really closed by too! The hostel itself doesn't has any socializing activities planned out but if you meet the right people, you will definitely have fun! The staffs are super nice and friendly!! Anyway, it's always better if you started to talk to them first, since they are meeting so many people in a day, it's not easy for them to remember you with only the first glance. This place is wonderful-it's like stepping into the Hollywood of the 1930's or 40's. The location is very serene and quiet and yet only a block and a half from Hollywood Blvd.,Grauman's Chinese Theater and the subway station. Okay, let me give the low down. I booked at USA Hotel via hostels.com I didn't catch the disclaimer that Californian residents could not stay. Also being spring break weekend everything is booked. I was literally having the most terrible day of my life losing 90 dollars at Disneyland, lady got mad at me for the most mundane reason and almost not having a place to stay in West Hollywood for a week. Not to mentioned it started to rain. I found this place via google search and the guy at the from desk was so accommodating, I gave frontman the low down of my situation and he made everything super convenient for me and he got me the best deal. I am forever grateful, the place itself isn't like most beautiful place but the service make up for it so much. How could I not give this place 5 stars, I was able to get a bed for 7 nights for 28 dollars per night at 10 o'clock at night on a Saturday in West Hollywood. read more

I booked the dorm for $40.00 (I paid cash) This place was amazing, way more affordable than booking a hotel in Hollywood. I just needed a quick place to sleep, get ready in the morning and go. Pedro is always willing to help, from the moment I called on the phone, to check in. Overall Orange Drive Hostel is clean, easy check in, easy to book, & easy to find. Free waffles or pancakes were offered, however I did not have time to grab a bite though the gesture is very sweet. I will def. book here again. Came here for my birthday trip to go to universal. Check in is quick & easy. I stayed 3 nights here with my friend. We got a shared room with two beds. The home is beautiful & huge! The outside patio was lovely to relax on at night & have a glass of wine. It's within walking distance from Hollywood Blvd & the main streets. Shared bathrooms with other guests but that's no biggie. I stayed in a room next to the kitchen which is opened to everyone. The room was slightly cramped but we were out exploring the entire time. We only stayed in the rooms when we wanted to sleep or freshen up. Definitely would book again ! :) read more

Hollyweird is my old stomping grounds, so I wasn't super enthused about the idea of playing tourist here, especially on 4th of July weekend. However, picking this hostel was probably one of the best decisions of the trip! There is a driveway on the left of the house to pull up to the parking (we went around a couple times looking for a spot on the street to check in, but it's pretty much all permit on this block). There were plenty of spots still available (at $5 per night, you won't get a better price). There is a $50 key deposit which they require to be in cash. We paid $92 for a private double room, which got us a cute little room in the back of the building, right next to the restrooms. Pedro (I think that was his name) was a great help checking us in and showing us around the building. We had no problem with noise from inside. There is no central AC, but Hollywood rarely gets overwhelmingly warm, so the cross-breeze from the big windows kept us cool enough. And the location! It's right around the corner from Highland and Hollywood, a quick walk to all of the kitsch and crowds of Hollywood. It took a little wandering around in the morning to find the breakfast room, but everyone there was patient and took turns using the waffle maker (there was also hot water on tap for instant coffee, hot cocoa, tea, etc). If you have to stay in Hollywood, this is the place to be! It's got location, cheap parking, a charming old building, friendly staff, and waffles. What else could you want? read more

At least two staff members are blatantly transphobic. Initially when I made my reservation I called the front desk to make sure they understand that I was using my legal name and that I am a trans woman and that is why I am booking a female dorm. However a week before my trip I received a message from management saying "you booked a bed in a 6 bed FEMALE dorm, is this correct". First of all the all caps on the word female was already combative and uncool, but when I messaged this person explaining that I already worked this out they didn't even apologize. Later my mom called the front desk and they apologized profusely so I decided to not cancel the reservation. However when I arrived at the hostel the person at the front desk looked at my ID and told me that next time my dorm must match the sex on my ID. I was immediately shocked and hurt that they would say such a thing. I explained that it can take almost a year to legally change my sex and that that means I won't be able to stay next time, expecting them to realize they just said something awful. They cluelessly moved on to show me the room. After I booked another place for the night I walked into the front desk and handed my key back and told them that just because I used to live as a boy doesn't mean I don't deserve the same respect they would give to any woman, and that staying in a male dorm would be extremely dangerous for me, as it would be for any woman. I wasn't interested in hearing their justification so I simply left. This person was a bald middle aged person in a polo shirt (I don't assume genders). To add further to this, my mom called immediately after my check-in and this same person claimed it was some sort of legal issues where my legal sex had to match the dorm I stay in. I have stayed in women's dorms in multiple hostels in Southern California using my legal name and never had the slightest issue. So it's pretty clear this was either made up entirely, or it was some absurd outdated law that no other hostel follows. If management wants to keep their LGBT friendly reputation, I recommend they suspend this person. And if not, shame on them and I hope they go out of business. Another problemvwas that the bunk beds didn't even have real ladders like every other hostel I've been to. Just wooden bars that were already part of the bed. Very sad to see. read more

Affordable pricing for a stay right next to Hollywood Blvd. The hostel was clean and felt secure. They take a reservation deposit when you book a room, and they take another deposit when you check in and they give you a room key. The reservation deposit is $50 and the key deposit is $40. You need CASH for the key deposit! I had to walk to Hollywood blvd to find an atm because the atm at their hostel wasn't working. Also, if you pay cash for the room, you get a discount than if you pay with a card. The bed wasn't very comfortable. There wasn't AC either. Luckily it cooled down at night so my husband and I could sleep without sweating. Breakfast is ok. They had waffles and you can make instant coffee or tea. The hostel kinda felt like a big, white maze. Lots of rooms. Everything is white. Some bathrooms aren't labeled. At least 3 levels. I've stayed at more cozy hostels before. This hostel was ok, not bad, just ok. The best part of it is the location. Oh, and parking is $5 per night. read more

Hard to believe this is a block from Hollywood blvd! Feels like a nice bed & breakfast place or inn. Its an old house that almost feels like you're somewhere in the Midwest when you walk into the lobby area to check in. Very cosy and homey. Love that they have parking for $5 - the spots are a tight, but it's fine if you have a compact car - anything bigger, you might ding or scratch your car. You must bring all your own personal essentials i.e. soap, shampoo, blow drier, etc. If you forgot to pack something, no need to worry - there's a Marshall's around the corner. If you need a towel, it's $2 to rent. You get two keys - one for the front door and one for your room. There's a $20 refundable deposit for the keys (cash only), so make sure that you bring cash with you when you're checking in. My only complaint was that the bathroom near the room I was staying in was a bit tight and the sink was tiny! It was even small for me and I'm a petite woman. I washed my face and water escaped the tiny sink and inevitably the floor got drenched! The hostel was very peaceful, clean and quiet, though. Very nice for the rate and location. FANTASTIC hostel! Could not have asked for a better experience! We stayed for one night in April. Check in was a breeze and the lady who ran the desk was so incredibly friendly! The building itself is beautiful. It has an old charm without feeling old. Our room was comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. The price is unbeatable, especially since you are walking distance from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater, and all those fun touristy things! I think we paid $40 for a private room. We were going to Disneyland, which is why we only stayed for one night, and they kindly allowed us to leave our bags behind the desk until we were done with our activities for the day and ready to go to our Disney hotel. They also offer free wifi and maps of the area so you can find things to do. There's a kitchen, which we didn't use, as well. Excellent place! read more

I had two relatives staying here - from the UK, one an experienced world traveler. First stay here in LA. The visit was very successful. Wonderful central Hollywood location, just off Hollywood Boulevard. Very good rates if paid upfront in cash, but good rates anyway. Friendly atmosphere, good management. I've been living in Los Angeles for nearly 50 years, so I remember the history of this area, and the hostel preserves that sense of place. Let me start out by saying that it breaks my heart to have to give this Amazing Historical House 1 star. I only had a negative interaction with one employee and she was the senior manager apparently. I will also post some screen shots of very current Airbnb reviews about me so you understand the type of guest I am.( posted them with my profile picture, can't post them on this review) That will help equal out the question if what I say holds any truth, because they do have a very high rating on yelp which I think they deserve, but not when it comes to how the situation I will describe to you was handled. I'm currently bicoastal for work, I have family in Los Angeles and have mainly lived here for almost 20 years now. I have been looking for places to live for the last few weeks and staying at Airbnb's was becoming absurdly expensive, because it was taking longer then I thought to find a place in the location I wanted to move too. So I thought I'd try a hostel out, I came across Orange drive hostel on google and it was a Massive House built in 1910 which looked amazing because it wasn't gutted and modernized. I love to learn about the history of Los Angeles and especially when it comes to houses that were once ranches and nothing but dirt roads or trails were the way to get there. Now they are surrounded by millions of people and modern buildings which are papier-mâché compared to houses like this one where a tank wouldn't make a dent. So I arrive and give the senior manager my I.D. upon her request and she snaps at me and says we don't except residents of Los Angeles. This coming from a foreigner so I'm slightly annoyed but brushed it off, explained my situation and she agreed for one night. I got a private room on the 3rd floor which had a unique design and a great view. That night I'm in the kitchen area and this other guest is there as well telling me how he's pissed because the senior manager (don't recall her name) but she told me she's from Poland and always has her dog sitting on her desk. Anyways, she caught him (he's a L.A. resident too by the way) smoking a certain type marijuana and the way it is smoked looks like your smoking crack or something. I totally understood why she wouldn't want him doing that in front of guest even if it's medicinal. The guy was weird but it's L.A. and weird is not a rare thing in L.A. I went to my room and thought nothing more of it really. The next evening this guy returns, after they told him to leave because of the marijuana and oh yeah he couldn't pay the bill. Now he's in the sitting area located in the front entry sitting in a chair talking to himself. Now I started to get concerned for my belongings in my private room because the locks on all the bedroom doors could be kicked in by a 4 year old, seriously they could be, but they make it more authentic so I wouldn't replace them either. They also have a locker area if you want to use those at no charge, that's if you have your own lock. Now back to the GUY, obvious to me he's detoxing which I'm thinking, DANGER!!!!. One would think it would be bad for business to have him greet the new guest upon arrival. I forgot to mention this guy changed his address to the hostels address upon arrival. Now this is a classic Los Angles squatter move where if you get mail, or a utility in your name, and stay for 30 days you now have the right to stay. The squatter doesn't have to pay and you have to go to court to evict them and it could take up to 6 months for the process to finalize. So I informed them that he's probably trying to squat here and to get the police involved and be done with it, I get you're annoying look as a reply. I was looking out for them, informing them how to protect themselves from being held liable if the now trespasser does something to a guest or squats. Now it's day 3 morning time and the senior manager has let me stay longer but just gives me dirty looks and is not friendly to me at all, wont say hello or anything. I want to be clear that all other staff members were amazing and helpful. Later in the afternoon and a guest runs to me, not to management and looks terrified. The trespasser who's now totally lost it, following the guest around the property while talking to himself, thats a scenario that never ends well one would assume. So I go to management to tell them "Call the POLICE!!!!" Once again I'm ignored. Finally when the trespasser is having convolutions (TRUTH) out in the front yard that night, I was able to convince the person who works at night to call the cops. They arrive and escort him off the property, he slept on the sidewalk in front, by morning he was gone. Never to return while I was there. I was also informed that the senior manager was telling others that I should mind my own BUSINESS and to not pay attention to me. When you accepted my cash for the most expensive room, you made it my BUSINESS. Would love a refund for being treated like I was the one not paying my bill. read more

Wifi is not included, but the last day the guy that works the desk told me he would hook me up If I asked for it. But Wifi should be free for everyone. No free computer stations, some old kiosks with CRT screens downstairs that cost $1 for a few minutes (lame) No laundry access. The free breakfast is the cheapest oatmeal in bulk you can get at Sams club, And you have to provide your own milk, there is a CVS 4 minutes away. Low key place, where owner and people stay to themself, Is Ok if you're a little older and like that. Very good location, 2 minutes to Hollywood blvd / madametussauds. But far away enough that it's quiet. Hint: the people in the sidewalk dressed up as Johnny Deep etc. are independent and work for donations. read more

So we were looking around New Years Eve for a place to stay while in Hollywood, pretty much everything was taken except this hostel, at first I was a little hesitate in staying in a hostel in Hollywood however little did I know this place not only caters to backpackers but is absolutely great for anyone coming to Los Angeles. The property is set right next to the Chinese theater up a lovely side street, it has a beautiful lawn of which you can hangout on under their gazebo. The hostel it self looks like a white old mansion, the place has an insane amount of history MARYLYN MANROE actually lived in the property many years ago. I also wanted to go out for a drink so they have a club crawl that joins all the hostels and people traveling to LA called LA Epic club crawls we brought a ticket and had a great time. The staff were very accommodating and it felt more like a bed and breakfast. I very much encourage people to stay here for the price you can't go wrong. read more

Best looking hostel i've ever been to. It is very new and the location is excellent in the heart of the city. Facilities are great (but you gotta pay extra for the towels)and staff is wonderful. Only downside was that the hostel didn't have a teapod (which is very uncomfortable in the mornings and you have to poor hot water from the sink) Beds were amazing. If you have come to Hollywood to follow your dreams this is the temporary place to stay, it is local to everything, so learning the LA landscape is very accessible and the place has so much Hollywood history that it just fueled my creativity and motivation (but perhaps thats just me). The variety of people was awesome, I met people from all around the world (what a way to celebrate the 4th of July!) The staff was SUPER friendly and knowledgeable! I'm a big fan of the Orange Drive Manor. I have stayed two times before and I'm gonna book again for a week this summer. The people have always been really friendly. I met the old lady that owned it at one time but that was years ago and I don't know if she is still there. The doors all lock and it is in a good neighborhood just north of Hollywood Blvd. They have several types of rooms to meet your personal and financial needs and They even have a piano and fireplace in the place as well as a public kitchen which worked well for me and I will probably use it again this summer.
