Checked in at 7pm Sat night. What a change! Horrible front desk person for a hotel! "We bothered her to check in!" Our booked handicaped room was not available. Assigned a second floor room that both beds did not look fresh (see photos). No towel racks and NO SHOWER CURTAIN! Room AC way too cold! Asked for change - told no rooms available. Only one light bulb in bed lamp. We have stayed here many times in the past with avearge results but not sure we will ever stay again because too many choices in near bye cities. Rate was $160!

Note from my daugther

The hotel staff are wonderful and go out of their way to help you and make your stay enjoyable. The staff opened the pool early for my daughter and extended breakfast to us even though it was past the cutoff time. My daugther so impressed she left a a note for the staff

Oily food mess in uncleared. Washcloth shows the grease.

Annie Oakley Motel - Single Queen Bed Nonsmoking

We stayed here on a road trip through Kansas that we take several times per year. We will…read moredefinitely be staying here again. The owners are so friendly and pleasant, and the rates are a steal for what you get. The hotels in the surrounding areas are so overpriced. For a double queen room we were looking at $100 per night, two days after Thanksgiving. The Annie Oakley was advertising $53 for a double queen. Being off the beaten path and cash-strapped we booked the Annie Oakley Motel and kept our expectations low, especially when pulling in to see the weathered sign of Annie Oakley herself and "free long distance calls and color tv" advertised underneath. We actually enjoyed our stay. The owners seem to be really embracing the quirkiness and we loved that. The rooms are a funky combination of modern (huge tv, fast free wi-fi, and artsy bedspreads) and totally retro (gold-flecked laminate flooring in the sink/bathroom area, enameled cast iron sink, and oversized green-turquoise bathtub and matching toilet). The motel is tucked in a sleepy block of downtown that was quiet despite it being a Saturday night. The double queen room was small and a bit tight on space for our family of five, but the beds were surprisingly very comfortable. Rooms were equipped with a mini-fridge and microwave and there is a cute little independent grocery store a few blocks away. The only negative was there is no breakfast (not a big deal) and this is cattle country so the air smells like cow butt (not the owners' fault). However, the smell of cattle did not permeate into the rooms. An adorable little find to stumble across in the middle of nowhere, Kansas. We will definitely stay here again on our trips.

I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this place was. There are rooms were recently refreshed and…read moreeverything was clean and in good working order. Very comfortable. It's about 10 minutes drive from the larger hotels near the highway, but absolutely worth it to save half the money!

I imagine that Oakley's visitors are mostly those looking for a quick night's rest before…read morecontinuing on the road. We arrived after a long day of driving from Denver and were able to snag a room with a Queen bed for $50 flat. I was actually quoted $55 with tax but later received a call that they would bring it down to $50. Sweet! There seemed to be some confusion when getting my info from the call. When we got there, it turns out that a couple from West Virginia took over a few weeks ago and was still working out the kinks of running the motel. The couple is very kind and are clearly making the best of their new situation. They offered us coffee in the morning, and left a thank you note on our windshield in case we left without saying bye. They're friendly and will definitely make you felt taken care of during your stay! The room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The decor may be a little outdated, but it's great for a $50 good night's rest. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a spot to spend the night in Western Kansas.

We chose this place because of its MCM design, and we were not disappointed. Although some of the…read morefurnishings were necessarily updated it still had a lot that was period correct as well. The yellow ceramic tile in the bathroom was awesome as well as the asphalt floor tile. However the first thing I noticed when I opened the door to the room was how clean the carpet was. The rest of the room was clean and comfortable as well, even had that springy mattress that we used to love to jump on as kids. The bed was comfortable as well. The owners are just as nice as can be and will recommend the best place in town to eat. We will stay here again should the the opportunity arise.

I like to give credit due where it is due . This is a nice old school old fashioned Motel that you…read moredon't run across every day. It looks from the outside a little outdated, but when you come inside the rooms it's a whole different story. Very sizable and clean rooms very well decorated, clean comfortable beds frigerator microwave coffee maker and an excellent Wi-Fi and cable system. I have stayed really expensive motels aren't as nice as this has got a nice little homey warm feel to it that you don't see everyday. Beds are very comfortable. The owners are very nice people good loving warm Christian people that go out of their way to treat people good and help people. If you folks travel on east and west on I-70 going to the town of Oakley Kansas, you should definitely make this your designated stop. Very peaceful and quiet, and totally affordable for The budget-minded traveler. Full service truck stop just a 200 yards up the road Thumbs up to another little Hidden Gem of a motel that is totally American owned and operated. Let's support our mom and pop businesses and motels, is that the American thing to do. Thumbs up to this decent little place please pay at homage and give it all the business it can get.

There are nicer hotels along I-70. There may even be a few cheaper hotels, as well. But none are as…read morememorable as the Free Breakfast Inn. It's the classic "off-ramp inn", with a dirt parking lot, older buildings, a old lady and her dog as your hosts, entrance pillars re-located from Denver's old Villa Italia Mall, plus a giant stuffed animal in your room. Not to mention the vintage 70's furniture, rug and paneling. In short, if you stay here I can almost guarantee you'll be telling friends about it. Whether those stories are good or bad are up to you (mine are "good"). You need to be in a jovial, adventurous mood before checking in. As a cool bonus, the Free Breakfast Inn gives you...well, a Free Breakfast. Across the highway at the Colonial Inn, your voucher entitles you to two pancakes, two eggs and coffee (basically, meat's extra). The Colonial Inn is another classic off-ramp institution (they even had those old IQ tester peg games at their tables!). Heck, both of these establishments are located at the same exit as the infamous "World's Largest Prairie Dog". That should tell you all you need to know! I stayed here my first night away from Denver on a road trip to St. Louis. The other nights I ended up at chain hotels-- all were equally forgettable. But on my way back to Denver, I passed the Oakley exit of the Free Breakfast Inn...and felt like tooting my horn to say "thanks".
