There was no game playing as far as billing and checking out. The Trauma center appears to be the real deal and on point. The LOCATION at Davis Island cannot be overcome and it an abomination with gridlocked traffic 6 days a week morning & evening. There is a sincere effort to have a security team guarding the hospital and keeping it safe. However, that is only 5 days a week.And on Saturday and Sunday , there's little security team or one tenth of the security , and if there's problems , terrorism or vandalism or gang activity that doesn't happen Monday through Friday , it could happen anytime? I found that disingenuous that the security team wasn't there on the weekends with the same presence. The parking situation , of course , is out of control and the parking decks are managed as well as somebody could possibly try to manage them , but it's still a large can of worms. I have no doubt that the valet parking team of employees means well and tries hard. I personally don't trust anybody to drive the car and park. It because of theft and organized teams of petty criminals. Very difficult for a visitor to come to the hospital. For the first time, enduring the parking garage, the heavy traffic before even getting to the hospital where they then have to check-in by supplying a valid ID after going through security. This is a high stress situation that needs to be explained to the entire security staff and the entire hospital administration. So everybody can continue to work together to make this a good experience considering the hardship. That's upon everyone, the nurses and the doctors are HEROS as they come to work each day. The patient advocates were sincere, polite as helpful as possible and yet it's still an uphill battle. The food served at the hospital was very good and a wide variety and choices for the patients. However there needs to be a specific 15 minutes of grace granted to the PATIENTS so they can eat, breath and relax with their meals uninterrupted.The moment the patients were served , the patients were interrupted constantly without respect shown and the patient ended up eating cold and either melted frozen items or soups and hot meals that would of been good but the experience was turned negative for no reason. The patients NEED the nutrition and positive few minutes and their MEALS should not be interrupted. In closing, there needs to be a extra effort put in for signage , lights and roadway painted arrows on the ground from I -275 to the hospital. Once a person has traveled this numerous times it becomes far easier but for a first timer , it is ab extremely difficult drive to make it to davis island from I-275 , even when trying your hardest. I am sure hundreds of millions of dollars have been poured into the hospital and the effort to make this top notch , but the location is so abysmal it makes it almost impossible to overcome. To all the nurses and doctors, your Patron Saints for being able to endure this on a daily basis. I'd love to see some special effort made by the city & county and State for the doctors & nurses & key staff to have some special Transportation arranged, whether it's by Boat or by special Limousine service every day &seven days a week. Kid Glove transportation service should include every special amenity possible showing appreciation and respect to them. We appreciated the entire staff and team of medical professionals ...in the most stressful time in our lives, but I was unprepared for having to show ID and it made my initial visitation traumatic with having to go back to the parking garage to get an ID with a disability. This wasn't my first experience here either--I had a same-day procedure about five years ago, and I remember receiving that same high level of care back then as well. The hospital itself is very clean, and I really appreciated having a private room. Another huge plus was that my husband was able to stay with me the entire time. He had a sofa bed, and they even provided pillows, linens, and a blanket for him, which made a big difference for both of us. Inside Crystin's suite, Lilly had her bassinet, Crystin had an entourage of staff in checking on her and baby Lilly. Quality of care is the best. I saw at least a dozen staffers in the two hours I visited. They have a professional photographer on staff for newborn photos- I was there for the photo shoot. I also found the gift shop extremely reasonably priced! I snagged a gorgeous, large bouquet in a vase for $40. Score! Plus the cafeteria- Connor crashed about the patient food and cafeteria food. This morning they told me they could do the CBC but not the level of the RX in my blood. I told them they have done it in the past. While I was talking to them, they kept talking to each other in Spanish. It was unprofessional to speak another language in front of a patient who has no idea what they are saying. I could see their computer screen and saw the name of the RX and pointed it out to them. They were both completely incompetent and I don't understand why they have them working in the lab.

While I selected your hospital based on its reputation and high rankings, my experience fell significantly below acceptable standards and was, at times, distressing and concerning for both my safety and well-being. From the beginning of my induction, there were notable inconsistencies in care. While my initial nurse was attentive and supportive, the quality of care quickly declined during subsequent shifts. After progressing to 5 cm dilation, I remained there for several hours without appropriate reassessment. I was informed that I would be checked again around 8:30 PM; however, this did not occur, and I went approximately 12 hours without a cervical check, despite repeatedly expressing concerns that my labor had progressed. During this time, my epidural experience was particularly troubling. A student anesthesiologist attempted the procedure multiple times without clearly identifying himself as a student, which resulted in delays and unnecessary discomfort. After initial placement, the epidural proved ineffective on one side, causing severe pain. Rather than promptly addressing the issue, I was given temporary medication that wore off quickly, leaving me in prolonged and significant pain. My concerns were not adequately addressed, and I felt dismissed despite visibly being in distress. Throughout the night, I repeatedly requested assistance and reassessment due to increasing pain and pressure, yet I was told there was nothing more that could be done. I felt neglected and unsupported during a critical time in my labor. It was only after a shift change the following morning that my condition was properly reassessed, at which point I was found to be fully dilated and ready to deliver. This raises serious concerns about the lack of timely monitoring and responsiveness during my care. While I am grateful that my delivery itself went smoothly once properly attended to, the postpartum experience introduced additional concerns. The room I was placed in was visibly unclean, with unsanitary conditions including blood on the toilet seat, unstocked supplies, overflowing biohazard waste, and dirty equipment. These conditions posed a clear infection risk and were unacceptable for any patient, especially a new mother and newborn. Additionally, communication and education were severely lacking. No one provided guidance on newborn care or breastfeeding, and I had to repeatedly request basic postpartum supplies. I also encountered issues with medication administration, where I was initially told that necessary medications were not ordered, only to later find that they had been available. This lack of attention to detail and follow-through was alarming. I was also disappointed by the lack of compassion and professionalism demonstrated by several staff members. I often felt like a burden rather than a patient in need of care. At one point, my partner was required to leave the unit unnecessarily to retrieve basic supplies, rather than staff assisting us. The overall bedside manner throughout much of my stay was lacking, and I did not feel supported during one of the most vulnerable times in my life. While I acknowledge that not every staff member contributed to this experience negatively, the overall standard of care I received was inconsistent and, at times, unacceptable. I've had some awesome neurosurgical procedures there that are truly life changing in a great way. Shunt placement went great and relieved the extra pressure on my brain from a scuba diving accident. Don't ever go scuba diving if you already have a head injury. Scuba diving causes changes in the brain pressure and can cause lots of neurological problems that only a hospital like Tampa general can handle. Tampa general is always on my mind literally, because I still have the gravity fed shunt attached to my skull and draining down extra fluid to somewhere else the body can process better than getting stuck in between the brain and the skull.

A lot has changed since then. I was asked by my out-of-state son a few weeks ago to take a phone charger to his father who had been admitted the day earlier into ER. I thought it would be an easy trip, even with my permanent concussion leaving me "weak" in formerly strong mental abilities. I drove in and immediately got lost. I saw tall buildings, a parking garage, winding drives. The ER was no longer a recognizable building with a parking lot. It had its own drive with four valets stationed. I panicked; I didn't know what to do. One of the valets came up to me, I explained my brewing meltdown re where to park. He calmly spoke to me and offered for me to pull a bit down the drive, park there by the door, and he would watch my car while I went inside. ER certainly had grown, was packed, but staff was calming and made sure I had help to where I needed to be. This was not going to be easy as my son's dad is my ex and I know his temperament. He was in his room, glad I had the cord, mad that I didn't have the charger portion which he had not said he needed.... hospitals often have extras of those. He was not pleasant, but the nurses were incredible. As I stepped outside his room, they approached me, one with a hug to calm my nerves. One, later told me her name Dylan M, said she was going to have Rachel H help find the piece he needed. It took a while to find one...I was so glad they did because he was not pleasant with anyone having to go in or out of his room to tend to his needs. Sorry to be so wordy, but I had asked their names and their supervisors' names because I wanted to make sure I wrote this review. The supervisors are Erics Avellan (mgr) and Jordan King (asst mgr). I had Dylan write the four names on a piece of paper for me. CB, my nickname for my "other half" Concussion Brain, must have misplaced the piece of paper when I got home. I couldn't find it anywhere! About 15min ago I opened my Bible and turned to the next set of verses I was to read. Yes, God made sure these angels would get their due review. God, bless these women, the job they do and the staff they work with to help their patients. What stood out the most was how thoughtful he was about my care. He even discussed imaging but was mindful about not putting me through unnecessary costs, which I truly appreciated. I felt heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. This was one of the best experiences I've ever had in an emergency room. I'm very grateful. Dr. Nicholas Healy is the best doctor I've ever had in my 36 year existence & he deserves everything good this life has to offer. its so refreshing to see there are doctors who really care in this world today and I can't wait to see what he does for the world of medicine. I was allowed to stay in the room during procedures to observe the doctor's bedside banner. The doctor entered the room and explained in great detail all the tests being ran, why and what their purposes were. The doctor and nurse were very intentional about maintaining a sterile environment and gave me supplies to ensure I was safe as well. Throughout multiple trays, ultrasounds and invasive procedures, they allowed me to ask as many questions as I wanted to assure we understood the treatment plan. Of course I didn't eat the meals, but they looked like they care about presenting meals that look nutritious and appetizing and my family member who was receiving care reported they enjoyed every meal. I liked how they included salt free seasoning blends in case you needed more flavor. Another very key component i loved was every time the call button was pressed, someone was there within 2 minutes. Attentive in every way. The only complaint was that 2 days in a row, no lunch was provided for the patient. Only breakfast and dinner (which was served at 4:30pm).

More worried about his ego than doing his job correctly, Greg noted my dad had an issue with his pacemaker on his chart. My dad does not have a pacemaker. When I told him he had the wires from a previous heart surgery replaced, he insisted my dad had open heart surgery and not a replacement. Excuse me?! I was with the man on Monday for the surgery. Then he placed an IV line that was faulty and far more painful than it should have been. When the techs at CT pointed out they needed a new line, his ego again took the lead and he had to "prove" he did it correctly which the ENT who was in charge of transporting him pointed out blew the vein. Apparently it took getting a new nurse at shift change to get a correct chart to be made and the transport to actually happen. Once she came, everything moved swiftly and with accurate information. Care for my sister was equally good. Great communication and nurse Paul was excellent. Greg needs to check his ego at the door and put the focus on his patients.

Interesting hospital. I was there in August and again in November for surgeries. In August I had a…read morevery early arrival time and overall a very pleasant experience. Everything went smoothly from check in, pre op, surgery and post op. I spent the night and received excellent care from a very well staffed and professional nursing team. I provided a very positive review on their web site. My second visit was scheduled late morning at 10:30 arrival. I will never accept a late morning surgery appointment again. First every parking spot was full. A five level garage provided not one open space. Eventually I found a car leaving in front of the women's care entrance. This was at the other end of the hospital from where I was told to enter near the south garage. I had no idea how to get back to the surgery check in. I entered the women's entrance and told the security guard I needed to get back to the south garage entrance. He radioed a man in a golf cart to meet me at the entrance and take me back to the surgery area. I told him the hospital website said there was valet parking near the children's emergency area. He said that was no longer being offered. My surgery lasted longer than the doctor told us and by the time I arrived in recovery and then post op I was the only patient in post op area. The nurses were all leaving and saying good night to other nurses. My nurse was the only one there. The motion lighting in the other tented rooms were turning off. As I was getting dressed to leave the nurse told my wife to bring the car to a different door to pick me up for the drive home. As I had dropped her off at the surgery entrance at 10:30, seven and a half hours earlier, she had no idea where our car was except my description of it parked across from the women's entrance. The nurse was so pleasant and helpful she offered my wife a wheelchair and took her to the security desk to call for the golf cart courtesy driver. Unfortunately, both the nurse and my wife learned that service goes home at 4:00. It's now 6:30. So now the only nurse in post op pushed my wife in a wheelchair the entire length of the hospital to the women's section to get our car. I sat by myself in a chair with now one light on waiting for the nurse to return. There are 6 handicapped parking spaces outside the surgery entrance. And perhaps 10 non handicapped spaces. Arriving late morning you will not find a parking spot. There are no reserved for surgery parking spots. As patients are released the assigned nurses go home and the area pretty much shuts down for the night. Very poor arrangement. The staff readily acknowledges that parking is horrible but apparently that's where it ends. The Doctors have a reserved parking area. The patients including surgeries are left to fend for yourself self. My future hospital needs will be at Tampa General or St Joe South.
