My boyfriend and I are moving to MA soon, but we're already planning on coming back specifically for John's artwork. Well worth it! And on a slightly unrelated note, John and his wife are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. So accommodating and hospitable. They make you feel at home throughout the entire process!

My appointment was right when they opened, and I got in and going quickly. The cleanliness is top-notch, and they follow all the safety protocols. I truly feel like the experience was first-class. I called to make the appointment and they answered quickly and were able to accommodate an appointment the following day (a Thursday) at 1pm. While it didn't really inconvenience me bc I had no other time-dependent plans, Kara (the piercer) was a bit late (30 minutes, I think) to our appointment due to traffic - road construction seems to be a bit nuts in SA right now, but I might recommend scheduling an appointment later in the day if you can swing it. But they have massage chairs, a TV, and a Play Station to keep you entertained if you end up in a similar situation. They were also very apologetic. When it came time to do the deed, Kara was friendly and informative. I wasn't planning on getting both pierced but after some discussion with her about it, I went for getting both done knowing I could take one (or both) out if I only wanted one to be pierced. Now, for the details for the piercing. Kara uses a hollow needle, she does not use a clamp (good for minimizing pain and bruising) to hold the nipple in place, there was no bleeding, bruising and no major swelling right afterwards, though I did feel throbbing (to be expected). I did bleed a little bit in my sleep that evening, but it was minimal and not surprising considering how I have a tendency to sleep in my stomach, so I'm sure it was only from rolling around. All in all, if I'm in SATx in the future, I'd definitely come back here. May need to make it a point to get a tattoo done here as they have great artists on staff too.

In the last 30 years I've gotten many tattoos. You get used to the environment and people who are…read moreworking in them. Or at least that's what I used to think. Let me explain: I came into Onyx Tattoo in New Braunfels looking for my son who waited until he was 18 to get a tattoo. As a parent this made me proud bc so many youths today don't have the patience to wait. I thought it would be a good experience for him and I to get one together. So after much research I landed on Onyx Tattoo. I met with two different artists, Ray and the owner, Jay. I want to emphasize the word ARTIST. Because that is exactly what they are. I gave them each an idea for a Christian project for my son and one for myself. I found some examples online and they said, great, I got an idea of what you want, I'll make it my own. That's exactly what they did. They each spent hours drawing and designing a one of a kind tattoo that blew our expectations away. When we arrived at our appointment they were excited to see us, they greeted us in a very friendly and professional manner, and the shop is so clean and organized. You felt like you were in an artist studio that had been meticulously sanitized. Each of our tattoos took the entire day to complete. During the experience, there was great conversation, some laughs, and just felt like this is the place I want to get work done in the future. I'm already planning on fixing/finishing another piece that another tattoo artist started but never completed years before. As I have gotten older, I've grown more picky about tattoos and what they mean. In my opinion, anyone in the Austin, San Antonio or New Braunfels market should come to this studio. You will find some of the nicest artists who are genuine people who love what they do. There is no better studio around. The work Jay and Ray did for my son and I was nothing short of fabulous. I want to give a shoutout to Vivo and the other artist there as well. I would trust either of them to do work for me as well. Best experience EVER! Remember folks, cheap tattoos aren't good, and good tattoos aren't cheap. However, I would say that their value is actually underrated. These same tattoos would have cost more in comparison to S. Congress in Austin. I got an incredible value and an amazing piece of art to remind me always of my faith.
