Marginally better than throwing your unwanted discs in the trash. Once upon a time, you could get decent trade-in value, but those days are long gone. Not to be too catty, but it's easy to see why they're half the size they once were. On the upside, the employees are friendly as they take advantage of you. Basically a ripoff. Meh. Finding parking close by can be a pain sometimes due to it being downtown on Broadway. I've had no problems with the staff whatsoever. My main gripe with the place is that the prices aren't anything special. You can find basically anything in Slackers on eBay for a much lower price 95% of the time. I think they are trying to cash in on the younger college crowd with more spending money than common sense, tbh. I primarily go there to shop for records, and the selection isn't that great. The new records are stupidly expensive most of the time, and most of the used vinyl is also overpriced, especially given the condition it is in most of the time. They do have a decent amount of dollar records, but the majority of them are either in terrible shape, or stuff that nobody would buy anyway. (That said, I have found some gems, and the dollar bin records go 10 for $5, so it's a good deal!) As far as I know, they never (or rarely) have sales on stuff. I also do not think that they update their prices very often because I have lived in Columbia for about 3 years now and there's several records sitting in their bins that have been there since I moved here, still at the same price. I would buy more stuff from Slackers if they were just more reasonable price-wise, or at least cut me a deal. I'm used to bigger record stores where I could haggle with the employees/owner, especially since I usually buy a huge stack of wax every time I go. read more

Downtown used media store has a surprisingly decent assortment of used cds, lps, and dvds, plus miscellanies such as posters and collectible action figures , etc. Ben behind the counter was friendly and knowledgeable about music - had a blast chatting witj him about The Clash, Green Day, etc. it's always hit or miss if you're looking for a specific title, but if you keep an open mind, you'll probably find something good to keep you amused. I found a live Neil Young concert cd for $7 bucks - listened to it twice in the drive home - was not a fan of his before!! read more

They won't buy nice records from you but they have hundreds of beat-up moldy ones to sell you. If they do buy anything, it takes them days to look each one up. Considering the pittance that they pay, it shouldn't be such an ordeal. Now, to the person complaining that they buy up toys and make a profit, that is how retail works. Free enterprise. read more

I liked the mini arcade up in the front. A Hook pinball machine? Awesome! I spent some time going through the dollar record bins. Found an awesome Jazzercize record that came with a poster. What a find!! The staff seemed pretty excited when I bought this record. "Yes! I knew someone would buy this!" one cashier yelled to another. I also liked the collection of life-size celebrity cardboard cutouts in the back. It's like I was shopping with the stars... weeeeeee. read more

Stopped in and found some neat novelty items. Warcraft figures, comic books, t-shirts, European board games, and other assorted "geeky" goods. They sell a pinball machine and some arcade games too( Tetris and Ms. Pac Man). I will be doing lots of my holiday shopping here! read more

This was my first music/game store that I would laugh out loud walking around. Sometimes I found things that made great gag gifts, sometimes I found cds I've never heard of from bands I enjoy. Fun to walk around. read more

If your looking to sell some blu-rays/DVDs/CDs for cash, you're better off going to a pawn shop. Unless you're interested in trading for store credit, they don't really give you your money's worth...if that doesn't bother you, you've found the right place. Also, don't expect to leave with cash. They'll write out a personal check from "Boone county bank" which is rather inconvenient. I'd suggest looking around elsewhere whether your buying or selling to ensure your not getting ripped off. read more

It's a cool all-things-used media store. It has extensive VHS, DVD, and Blu-rays; LPs and CDs; video games from NES to Xbox 360. It's got comics, geek toys, and board games. It is crammed full of stuff. I love browsing here. I confess there aren't many "deals" to be had unless you're looking at really old stuff--the VHSes are cheap, but the DVDs aren't a real bargain. But I still visit every time I'm in town. read more

Toy Scalpers. Buying up stock of new Marvel Legends and reselling them for $75 a pop.

Kool place to check out as it has a lot to see. Popular place for the college kids to hang out. Arcade up front to play games also.

It's OK. Nothing special and they're pretty skimpy/picky about what they will trade in or buy from you. OK selection of items, but it's really quite underwhelming. read more

Parking anywhere on this street is a nightmare and I wish they had a little more variety in older games but they're pretty good about trading in and I've been coming here since I was a little ba ba and am glad to keep giving Slackers my business. read more
