My husband and I were married September 2015 and Thomas was our wedding photographer. From the moment I met him I knew that it was a match made in heaven. I am super high strung, extremely organized with a crazy attention to detail and I tend to worry...a lot. He is friendly, laid back and calm BUT professional and organized all at the same time. Perfect. For our engagement session my husband had what I thought was a crazy idea. He wanted to take photos of us riding on his motorcycle. He asked for very little during the wedding planning process so I wanted to see if there was any way we could make this happen. I emailed Thomas with the idea and he was game! On the day of our session we met in Lincoln Park near the zoo and North Ave Beach. Thomas was super organized and made us both feel comfortable in front of the camera. We took some traditional engagement photos and then at the end of our session we moved over to Lake Shore Drive and took action shots on the motorcycle. The day of our wedding the weather was very unpredictable. It rained overnight and for most of the morning. Thomas and his assistant arrived to the hotel on time and more than prepared with a plan of attack for the unpredictable weather. As the bride I appreciated not having to worry about this. I trusted Thomas completely and knew that no matter what we were going to receive amazing pictures. Lucky for us, the clouds and rain disappeared and it was a beautiful sunny day. Once again, Thomas was organized and kept our large and rowdy wedding party focused. Furthermore he made sure that we stayed on schedule. Not only was Thomas great on the day of our engagement session and on the day of the wedding, but also in the planning stages as well as afterwards. He responded to all of my emails in a timely manner, answered all of my crazy questions, helped me put together a timeline for the wedding day and offered helpful tips and advice. He also edited our photos in a timely manner and sent us a link to view and order them online. This was great as it was super easy for us to share them with our family and friends. Thomas and I have been friendssince college through when I moved to Chicago so, when we got engaged he was always the first person I thought of to take our pictures. Though we live in Ann Arbor, and planned to have our wedding there, the first place we called home as a couple was Chicago so his suggestion to having our engagement photos taken there was perfect! Even though it wasn't the most ideal weather conditions we had an amazing time touring places we'd never imagined taking pictures in the city that provided such an outstanding backdrop. He took the time to scope out some places in Ann Arbor we didn't even think of to provide amazing backdrops to the day as well as he also honored our requests. His comfortability in directing and making everyone enjoy themselves while getting photographed is one of his greatest strengths. There are some amazing shots of our friends with us that is so natural but at the same time beautiful. He brought all of our friends and family at ease and again, the day and people were captured as we remembered it from beginning to end. I really appreciate that Thomas requested that I make a "shot list" of all of the pictures that were must haves for the day. It was a true life saver as things got crazy towards the end of our picture time and I was comforted by the fact that Thomas got everything checked off my list. When searching for wedding photographers in Chicago, I was way too overwhelmed with the number of options. I reached out to our venue to ask for recommendations and they pointed us in the direction of Thomas Slack. I perused his portfolio, along with a few other recommendations, and reached out to learn more about Thomas and his style of shooting. He has always been quick to respond and he immediately suggested we meet up in the neighborhood (we are neighbors, as it turns out), grab a beer, and just get to know each other. We chatted about my background, my fiance's background, likes, dislikes, travel, work, family....conversation flowed freely and I really appreciate that Thomas was genuinely interested in getting to know us as a couple. He was very fair and reasonable w/ his pricing - we opted to sign a contract for a second shooter for the size of our wedding. Even when I had a slight freak out about wedding budget and minimizing costs, Thomas proposed some very reasonable options of how we could save money on photography without compromising quality. While we never formalized any changes, he was so helpful and accommodating that I know if I have a freak out again, I can count on Thomas to help us figure it out. We recently did our engagement photos which we loved. It was a cold day, so Thomas did his best to work with us (quickly) on outside shots so we could spend sometime inside. My fiance and I met and fell in love in Logan Square, so we wanted our engagement shoot to revolve around our favorite places. Thomas took our ideas and incorporated them wonderfully into our photos. From outside the Logan Theater, to the local murals in Logan Square, and even Emporium! We also needed a rush on our photos since we were quickly approaching the 6 month mark and Thomas was happy to put a rush on our photos. They were ready within a few days! Two of my best friends had Thomas as their wedding photographer so we knew exactly who we wanted to document our big day. All of the expectations we had going into our engagement shoot and wedding day were far exceeded! We live in New York but wanted to get married in our hometown of Chicago. Thomas was so unbelievably accommodating with his schedule to make sure we got our engagement shoot to happen. We found a day in the middle of February and what resulted were beautiful and unique photos that I never would have expected in the middle of winter. A few weeks have passed since our wedding day, and my husband and I cannot help but reflect on our appreciation for all of the incredible people that worked behind the scenes to help make our day so memorable. Seriously, 5-Stars is an injustice to the quality of work, level of professionalism, personality, and customer service. We hired Thomas of Slack Photography based on a recommendation from my wife's friends. Best recommendation we received ever. Thomas exemplified the cool, calm, collected type of person that one wants on a day that is very busy and stressful. He made me, someone not comfortable with having my picture taken, feel completely at ease. He was able to take some AMAZING photographs of the wedding party, and had the most original ideas for scenery, and poses. Now, the caveat is - if you want someone that is going to have you stand in front the a rose bush and get a repetitive "plug-and-chug" type of photos, this man is not for you - you wont be happy, and it will be a complete waste of his talent. IF you want a photographer that has a great artistic eye, and great intuition for what the bride and groom will like - THIS is the GUY FOR YOU. Now the boring parts - but are also important - he presents very well and blends seamlessly into the background which allows him to get all the great candid shots you'll miss seeing in person. Thomas started out as our wedding photographer but at the end of our wedding he felt like a guest. Picking a wedding photographer was one of the most stressful items on our long to do list for the wedding. There were so many options out there and we wanted to pick the perfect one. Our wedding was very large, formal affair and the photographer needed to fit into our large group. We wanted a photographer that was fun but discrete, gave direction but not be bossy, have great, creative ideas but not be over the top, and someone that we could relax enough around so that they could capture who we were as a couple. Thomas was referred to us by a friend who used him for a wedding, and we have to say, we could not be more happy that we chose him to do our wedding here in Chicago this March! After our initial meeting with Thomas, we loved that fact that the wedding package included a complimentary engagement shoot, giving us the chance to work with him and get comfortable before the big day. The compliments from our engagement photos came rolling in non-stop. Choosing a photographer for our engagement and wedding was one of the "quicker" decisions we made! I have always been a fan of Thomas' work! For years, I have been able to experience his photos as a follower through social media and as a family member. He has a talent for the littlest of details. Thomas was a wonderful photographer! We found Thomas through our friends who had Thomas photograph their wedding a few years before ours. I remember loving the photos from their wedding and once I was engaged I tracked down his name and we set up a meeting with him in Chicago. Since the beginning, Thomas has been professional and yet knows how to bring humor or wit to make anyone feel comfortable. Once viewing his latest work, I knew I loved his modern, clean, and creative look he brings to the photos and we booked him. As a bride, planning for an event such as a wedding was a bit over whelming with all the details and preparations, however I never stressed about the photographer knowing that I had full confidence in Thomas and that I didn't need to worry about our day being captured artistically. 5 Stars for Thomas Slack as our Wedding Photographer. My wife and I hired Thomas for our June 2012 Chicago wedding. Our first meeting went great as we reviewed his previous work, and chatted about the details. We knew he could handle our needs, being able to capture the standard "formal" shot with family and the bridal party as well as using his creativity to capture our special day with a unique style. He and his assistant (both dressed appropriately) started with us early to get photos of the girls and guys getting ready. I don't remember seeing him during the church service but the pictures we got back are amazing, to see the emotion on both of our faces is priceless. He was able to wrangle our bridal party on a hot day at North Ave beach to get fun, not always posed pictures. They also worked perfectly with our videographers. They continued to get great shots throughout the night of all in attendance, including, candid shots of people having a blast at the reception, dancing to their favorite song. We received the final product of the edited images, quicker than we thought. They are perfect and could not ask for anything more, thank you! I just received the edit of our wedding photos and I am unbelievably impressed. I was not expecting to adore so many of the photos that Thomas captured but I'm having a terrible time even narrowing down by top 200. By taking a look at Thomas' website and blog, you will immediately know that he is an artist and captures precious moments in the most beautiful way possible. If you are like me, you thought that a photographer like Thomas was well over what you could afford for your wedding. Not the case! Thomas is the most underpriced photographer we interviewed. Though many will claim to be destination wedding photographer, Thomas has more experience in this area than most (again, take a look at his website and blog). Thomas arrived to Colorado a few days before our wedding to scout locations and though I would never have thought to follow a dirt road into a field in my wedding dress, I wouldn't take it back for a second. Absolutely stunning. What I loved most about working with Thomas was that he captured our true spirit. His style can be very edgy and out of the box but we never felt pressured to stray from our more traditional leanings. When I was searching for a wedding photography a couple of years ago for my daughter's wedding, I was given Thomas' name. When I first spoke to him, he was a delight and made me feel very comfortable and no question was too much for him to answer. Researching other photographers, his pricing was very reasonable. He took a personal interest and I knew from that first conversation and from seeing some of his work that he was the one I wanted for the wedding. It was an easy decision. I won a raffle last November for a photo session with Thomas. He was extremely patient and kind in allowing the offer to be extended for an entire year. Wednesday evening, the day before Thanksgiving, he arrived at my son's city home 15 minutes early and was all set up and ready to go once all 11 family members arrived (late).Eight adults, three babies under 3, and more than an hour later he had directed and produced the most lovely family portraits we could hope for! Our group consisted of 4 seperate families, and Thomas was able to capture the individual personality of each member, no easy feat! He was relaxed but focused, which led to many outstanding photos. As a woman planning her wedding from San Francisco, I was incredibly nervous about hiring vendors. It was hard for me to meet anybody, and all planning had to be done via email and phone. Working with Thomas could not have been easier, and I couldn't be happier with our wedding photographs. On a wedding planning visit I made to Chicago, I asked if we could grab coffee as I wanted to at least say hello in person before our wedding. We met right after I had my hair and makeup trial and I looked just a LIIIIIIIIIITTLE overdone for a coffee shop meeting. I recently shot my engagement shoot with Thomas and just received my photos back (less than two weeks). I am beyond pleased with the quality and moments he was able to capture so effortlessly. I wish I could give Thomas more than 5 stars! He shot our engagement pictures and wedding and was absolutely fantastic! Even though we had only met him a few times before the day of our engagement pictures, Thomas made us feel totally comfortable with him as we cruised and climbed all over some cool and hidden Chicago spots. Contrary to what our other friends had told us about their engagement pictures, we had a great time and were laughing all afternoon. We couldn't be happier with how the engagement pictures turned out. On our wedding day, Thomas' professionalism and communication skills were essential given how large our wedding party was (22 total).
