I just completed Skyway's CDL course and passed my DMV driving test on the first try. This is an honest review of what I experienced at this trucking school and is in no way fictionalized. Below are the pros and cons of my experience: PROS * Local for HD residents * No waiting list, class starts every Monday * Instructors are friendly * Flexible schedule (full-time or part-time) CONS * Pricey * Poor communication at times * Classroom is small, dimly lit, small TV used for test prep during week 1 * Men are not allowed to use indoor restroom, must use outdoor port-a-potty * Very little room for parking * Tractors and trailers are in poor condition * Feral cats all around, will try to get into your car if you leave window cracked * Little to no protection from the elements while training in the yard * Driving time seems ingenuine. They take two students on the road at a time, and they'll credit you with behind the wheel drive time even when you're a passenger, someone that's not in control of the vehicle in any way * Instructors are often not on the same page with the pre-trip inspection criteria. One instructor will teach a certain way, while another teaches in a different way * They tend to rely on students to train other students * Their inspection forms are not all the same and have typos * Their curriculum is sorely lacking. Very little is given to the students to learn about the pre-trip inspection, so I painstakingly typed out all my notes on the pre-trip inspection, and asked one of the instructors to look it over to verify they follow the course criteria. Once the instructor validated my notes, they made copies of them and began passing them out to other students and claiming that they made these notes for the students as a study guide Overall, I would NOT recommend this school to anyone serious about obtaining a CDL. Although it is possible to gain enough knowledge and skill to pass the DMV test, but the student must be extremely determined and willing to go above and beyond what this school teaches in order to be successful. The owner, Jay, is very patient and he works with the students to make sure they pass. The school is a four week course so it is very fast pace. The instructions are very informational and patient. Carlos is your go-to guy. The students they're very friendly, helpful and encouraging.... But the equipment is old.... Very and the clutch is killing my knee. I've never driven a stick before so to learn how to drive a stick and to drive a tractor and trailer is definitely a plus...I do Understand you don't want restrictions on your license but you should also have options to allow your students to choose from manual or automatic. read more

I was pretty disappointed at this school all the trucks are broken down always having problems not enough instructors and the instructors don't really help very much this is a self taught school lucky for me I knew a little bit about trucks I've even had to take some students to my house to help them and practice because they were not getting the help they deserve or paid for the owner only cares about the money the school was a serious disappointment some other instructors didn't even know what they were talking about even others instructors talking about each other and some instructors making their own names for parts you do not get paperwork to study you have to find them on your own I think YouTube was everybody's best friend and googling and printing papers out for yourself they did not supply you with anything none of the trucks have a C and you're out in the sun all day even if you make mistakes driving some other instructors are not even looking you can jackknife the truck and half the time they won't even notice big disappointment luckily for me I knew someone to be able to pass the DMV test on my own of course they had to set up the appointment but the learning process was everything I learned on the Internet not from them read more

Do NOT waste your time or money! They left my son high and dry not once, but TWICE on test day at Fontana because their truck broke down... again!!!! They have 2 trucks that are in and out of the shop, never running. They only let you go to 'school' every other week because they have too many students and not enough room. They are only interested in your money NOT if you pass or even get to take a test with their trucks always breaking. You would think they would use the money to fix their trucks- NOT the case. If I could leave no stars, I would. First off, it's extremely over priced. Thought maybe it was over priced due to a good system (trucks, instructors, and facility)... NOPE 1 instructor that holds a whistle in his mouth and a stick. 16 guys standing around waiting for their turn. Trucks are run down. When it comes time for a test, they won't provide a truck unless they have a huge group going down for tests. They say it's "to expensive" LOL. I've sent 5-6 guys through the program and after multiple trips to the DMV because the trucks kept failing due to mechanical. I finally went and got our money back to send them else where. I'm currently attending skyway and I can honestly say this school has to be the worst truck driving school ever. I started attending this school in early December and it's already late June that alone should already tell you how bad the school is. The school is so crowded that you only have 2 days of road time for 1 hour each day before your dmv date then they tell you "you have enough practice to pass". They schedule students to go to the dmv even if their not ready to go on roads then they say "just take the test and pass everything except skills take your time so they can't fail you if you take your time" plus if you tell them you're not going to your appointment because you're not ready they'll tell you "if you don't go that's your first fail for the school". Don't get ripped off like I did look for a better school down the hill it'll be worth it read more

This place is not the place to go to get your CDL'S in California they are rude as heck don't have any trucks that are worth a darn to train in they don't give you enough hours to drive on the road to get used to driving their road/DMV truck. I failed my first driving tat be the clutch is shit I passed the in Cab inspection even with the shifter boot torn and I was told to jus and go with it that's fumes that comes into the cab that's not all thats BS down at that place we spent 10K for my wife and I, they can't even call us back to get another appointment and I'm gonna see about finding a company that would let me use their truck. It's a good school from my experience. There's a few issues with it but they are mostly mechanical issues with the trucks provided. The course takes about 1 month and a half. It is quite pricey but there is financial help to pay for the course. The first week consists of class room work and the following weeks are hands on practice with the trucks. As for the way they teach: each instructor specializes in a skill. Therefore, if you need assistance in learning or mastering a skill you got to said instructor. Also, due to the amount of students there, each student takes turns to practice their skills. Sometimes it may take a while until you get to practice and sometimes it will be quick : it varies from time to time as well as person to person. The one thing that I don't like which is unavoidable is how backed up students are to take their tests. You will have to wait approximately 1-2 months before you take your behind the wheel test. This was due to the pandemic so hopefully in the near future they get back on track. My advice if you consider going to this school is to pay attention to the other students and learn from their mistakes: you'll often find insight on what you should and should not do. read more

This school took my money for trucking school. They limit their contract to 4 months. I never attended due to a health condition and moving. Now I am back on my feet and they are saying because I didn't do the schooling within 4 months I have to pay again. You would think they would have common sense and see my circumstances. I attended this school in 2016 department of rehabilitation paid them 3100 dollars for the class I did 1week before breaking my femur and had to take off for 4months when I went to go back I was told I graduated and I didn't how did I do them hours if I was out they got paid I learned nothing never been behind the wheel of the truck but it says I passed and I been trying for a while to get my money back and the owner is ignoring me and finally I go up there January 2019 and spoke with him he told me to come back at 4 when I went back he wasn't there I spoke with the new secretary she gave me all the paperwork I needed to sue him and that's what I'm doing now I contacted department of rehabilitation about this and he can go to jail for fraud and I'm going to do all i can to bring this to light. read more

This is the worst school ever! They have terrible attitudes, the trucks are pieces of junk that don't work... you have to pretend to practice your skills. If you feel like getting screamed at vs being taught and if you feel like learning everything yourself and getting talked down to for asking questions then this is the place to go. The Skyway junk yard is a joke and the people running it don't care about anything. Go to another school! Trust me!! They have a bad reputation with the DMV and the students get the wrath of it while testing. It says 4-6 week class, yea right plan on wasting 2-3 months because of their terrible trash they try to have you drive in. Problem after problem is the skyway way! This school is cheaper then other schools for several reasons!! First, the instructors are terrible teachers, very confrontational, always complaining and yelling at students. Today I passed my CDL-A test at the DMV and I have Skyway to thank for it. A huge thank you to Fred, Dennis and Carlos. Without their help I would have never passed. If you want to get your CDL come to this school but be warned, you need to be ready to learn. They only have a certain amount of time to train you to drive a vehicle that can weigh up to 80000 pounds. The instructors want you to succeed and will push you to get better. Don't be surprised if you don't get your hand held every minute of the day but the handshakes I received from my instructors today made every minute worth it. Today I did something that I didn't think I had a chance to do six weeks ago. Be ready to work everyday and find a brotherhood with the other students, they will push you just the same as the instructors and I am glad to have been a part of this school. I have been decided on driving as a career for a long time now and have always been researching different CDL Schools to go to. When I finally was ready to take the plunge I went with Skyway and am thrilled I did. I am singing there praises everywhere and I am totally enjoying my experience with them so far. If you don't know anything about truck driving or the industry at all, don't worry they will walk you through every aspect of what to expect. They have recruiters coming to the school all the time. You will get all the hands on one on one time you need and any area you get stuck on will be worked out with their help. You have plenty of time to practice on their lot with their trucks and plenty of on the road training. But first they will get you through the written exams to get your permits and trust me they are all there for any question you have. They have the attitude that there is no stupid question you can ask. I ask them all the time a dozen questions a day. Some of it is hard some not so hard but I am enjoying the process. Also wish to say something about the staff. I love them all and from the office to the yard and on the road they are always available for your personal needs.
