Now they ha e the opposite, greens are nice, fairways are mediocre, rough is terrible. They allowed clover to overtake the rough which results in lost balls and wasted time searching for balls nestled down and covered up by clover. Apparently every so often Pinecrest will put out an offer on GroupGolfer. While I play, I'm not hardcore as my one co-worker is and he says that when this place is on there, they sell very fast and they sell out. He had an extra one that was close to expiring so I got the call. Let me throw in that price wise, I have no idea what these actually cost for a round here. He told me $30 was good. Whether he took a bath on that or not, no clue. The course itself, especially considering the complete lack of rain that has fallen this year, is overall in very good shape. Mostly very green, lush and well manicured. The course's gimmick is that the 18 holes are evenly split between par 3-4-5. IMHO, the key is not gripping it and ripping it, but having a highly measured approach. Yes, you have more than your fair share of par 5s (hole #1 starts with a 500+ yard fiver), but the course also has plenty of doglegs, blind greens from the tee, large areas in the fairway of vegetation which really make you think about trying to go for it versus applying a more thoughtful strategy. If this were drums, do you want to be Steve Gadd playing on Steely Dan's Aja or someone just bashing away with clubs for hands & feet? If you try #2 you will lose a crap ton of balls. Although to be fair, unless you're fairly straight (lots of trees/narrow fairways) you're losing some balls here either way. I can't say how many I lost, but I found 16 without trying too hard. If you get the chance, this is a nice one. Sure as hell tough, but very scenic and very well maintained.
