    Lowertown, Downtown St. Paul

I've lived at 333 for 2.5 years and wouldn't live anyplace else in Lowertown. The building is…read moreimpressive with the huge pillars from the original factory in the hallways and apartments. It's always spotlessly clean (thanks Irma!). Nate, the maintenance manager is responsive, and always happy to go the extra mile. Bri and Alyvia in the office are friendly, hardworking and tenant communications are excellent. We live in a very urban environment so you have to be mindful of your surroundings. The building is secure and there's a security guard here (who lives in the building) from 6pm-6am and I feel safe. I love the diversity and occasionally gritty edge to the neighborhood, but it's just 3 blocks to the Farmers Market and 4 to the Saints stadium, so the suburbs invade us throughout the week in the summer. It's 3 blocks to the Mississippi for great walks and Mears Park has concerts all the time. Guest parking is metered on-street or parking ramps nearby, so a little tricky for entertaining large groups of friends. The 333 amenities (common/game/theater rooms, 24 hour coffee bar, gym and lounge next to the rooftop deck) are beautiful. I feel proud of where I live. The rent is at the top end of my budget though, and if it goes up much I'll have to move, but I love it while I can afford it.

I think they dropped a dumbbell. The appliances are brand new with lots of fancy features. The building is clean and well maintained. I have not had the opportunity to put in a housekeeping ticket as of yet. I did lose a very special earring down the drain and I asked the maintenance engineer if he would help me retrieve it. He had it on my counter within hours with a nice note. I am so grateful to Ben. I really like the common areas when I need to host some friends for a gathering. The areas are exceptionally clean, so we make sure to leave it the same way. Our packages are kept in room and an email is sent promptly when they arrive. The packages are organized in an easy to find fashion. Our neighbors are the best. If you have friends over they are respectful. We have a book club, seasonal get-togethers and art crawls. We do have many dog owners. I love the doggie biscuit pot at the entrance. I think all the doggies do as well. Lana and Calsey always keep it stocked. That is a Bonus! We have needed special favors and Calsey, Lana, Ben, Nate and Dee are extremely helpful. My printer was out of ink and I needed the lease agreement printed, a package placed outside the package room due to my late arrival, something hung...the list goes on and on and they never made me feel like I was inconveniencing them. We had an issue with trespassers camping out and management employed a security guard to ensure our safety. Calsey went as far as to fight city council to close our skyway access. She won! Thanks Calsey and team. These folks care and make you feel like part of the family. I never want to move out. I think they should convert these lofts into condos.

They have brought us many new expenses and miserable staff like Gelinda in the security room. I don't understand why you would hire someone who hates people as much as she does into the most customer facing role in the whole building.

I'll start with the good and say that the people who work here are awesome, especially the guys at…read morethe security booth. They're super helpful and really accommodating. Noise: My apartment is on the Hennepin side and is quite loud. I can't have my windows open at night or I can't sleep (more on this later). The walls are thick so noise from same floor neighbors is low but noise carries through main door from the hallway. I can hear a lot of noise from the people above me, too. Smells: Lots of ethnic cooking going on and the smells always seem to make their way through the vent systems into my apartment. Not ideal. Heat: Ok, this is the worst and a huge frustration during shoulder seasons. They keep this building super hot every day. I walk into the hallway and start baking. I open my window before bed (and not after as mentioned above) when temps are above 30 otherwise it's too hot. I don't even turn on my heat in the apartment until it gets well below zero. The building is old and air gets pumped through a central air system. So even when I turn the wall AC unit to 'cold', all I get is warm air. In a season like April where it's 50 outside, they've still got the heat on in the building and I'm sweltering in my apartment, I open the windows before bed to cool things off but by morning I'm lying there sweating. Again, frustrating. My experience here has been fine. It's a great downtown location with easy access to running and biking along the river or shopping and dining on Nicollete.

The walls are solid, so you don't get to hear the Section 8 neighbors fighting and throwing things. And it is close to downtown. Now the bad. Section 8. Drug dealers that live in the building that are not dealt with. This alone requires its own section. If you look like a girl from The Boom Boom Room, you get a spot. This is given out by management preference. There are people that have lived in the building for over a year, and they are on "the list", but SEVERAL people that park in the back of the building have been there less than a year. Bring the pepper spray if you come in after dark. You may run into homeless people that have snuck in, or are let in by people. &&& This is a plea for all of those who are considering living in these apartments.....Please don't, for your own safety!!! The building is falling apart literally, there is garbage in the halls, cigarrette butts, broken heaters, and broken windows. Not to mention the fact that it smells like rotting garbage in the halls. Praking lot- Night mare Bike Garage- un safe Security- None Rental office- Don't Care Laundry Rooms- Disgusting Trash Dumpsters- A homeless home Buildings/Neighbors- Drug Raids, SWAT TEAM, Women getting beat up by their boyfriends, constant smell of weed! Police- Don't Care!!! Apartments- Rusty appliances, old stained carpeting, no hot water, cracks in walls, everthing needs to be fixed or replaced..... I think I have proved my point by now......

I'm a newbie here at The Laurel, having moved in just a couple of months ago. I knew in the fall…read moreof 2021 that I would be moving to Minnesota, so I flew into Minneapolis in November of that year to start looking around. I had five or six apartment complexes on my list of buildings to tour, and when all was said and done, The Laurel was one of only two apartment complexes that I liked well enough to even think about renting. In January 2022, a one-bedroom became available at The Laurel, and I grabbed it. I'd been hoping for a two-bedroom, two bath, but I had to get my foot in the door and I figured I could always move into a two-bedroom when one became available. To tell you the truth, though, the apartments here at The Laurel are so very spacious that I've found a one-bedroom to be more than ample for me. I haven't met everyone yet, but everyone I've met so far is delightful, and so are Tony (the manager) and Adam (the assistant manager). It was Adam who gave me the tour of the grounds last November, and I have to say that he was an invaluable help to me, as I was relocating from out-of-state. Computers are not my strong suit and not everyone would have had the patience to walk me through one online necessity after another in the way that Adam did. He persevered without complaining and I so appreciated that. Thank you, Adam! :) This is the first apartment I've lived in in ages, and before I moved into The Laurel, I assumed I'd live here for a while and then, buy a property nearby in which to live. I guess I thought that because that's what I've been doing for decades, but I'm having a change of heart and could see myself living here forever. The complex is clean, quiet, and very well-maintained; and the amenities, while not exhaustive, are really very nice. I see the amenities as quality over quantity. To sum it up, I can't imagine giving The Laurel anything less than 5 stars, and if I could, I'd give management and the grounds even more than that. Suffice it to say, I love it here, and I think you would, too!
