Just got back from Chicago stand up paddle boarding and honestly had a really fun time. I went to…read morethe diversity harbor location as most of the beaches continue to be closed due to COVID. The view and paddle boarding towards the city is quite scenic and it is cool to be able to merge the thundering city with being on the water. It is right next to a public park so there are many people walking, biking, and having picnics which is also a nice sight, however, on the other side of the park is a highway so that takes away from some of the scenery. There are not great parking instructions on the website but we managed to find a spot hero nearby which was pretty easy. Booking a same-day reservation was not a hassle and you simply fill out a liability waiver on the phone once you get there. I was not super sure about how clean the rented equipment was which could be a concern for some people right now, otherwise the rental process was easy. Some other concerns I had were that they give you a box to store your belongings in, but the box is just sitting out in the back of a trailer and I am not sure how well guarded they were. There is also a very low bridge that I had to lay down to go under, and while I thought it was a fun little challenge others may think of it as a nuisance. Overall, good way to paddle board near the city.

BEST PLACE FOR MODERATE AND EXPERIENCED BOATERS!!!…read more If you need you adrenaline levels boosted or feel like just cruising the shores of Lake Michigan on a jet ski, but you don't own one, call these guys. Next Wave Watersports rented us (almost brand new) 2 Yamaha Jet skis, for the entire day, so It was our decision where to take them for a splash. After doing the paperwork and inspection of the watercraft, we picked them up (early morning in Alsip, IL) on their trailer, and towed with our vehicle to Diversey Harbor (Chicago), on the lake Michigan. Launched them (dropped them in water - $27 fee, parking included), parked the SUV and trailer, and spent the rest of the day riding on the lake, enjoying magnificent views of Chicago skyline. Returned them safe later that day. We had a blast! IF YOU RENT FROM NWW: - You will lose several hours of your day for operations (pick-up, launching, retrieving, drive back). You pay for rental ($$$depends on PWC you take), deposit ($500 per ski), fuel you burned driving and for ski launch fee($27), if you decide to take them to Chicago Harbors. You need to take extra caution when towing, launching and retrieving skis, as well as when being out on the water! Every rental place(including NWW) will charge you for damages caused to the skis ($$$ per inch), so you need to take extra caution. Note: IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER OR RIDER WITH LOW OR NO HOURS ON A JET SKI, GO RENT @ OTHER (PER MINUTE) PLACES. Why? -Because you will most likely feel dead after 30 min - 1 hr of riding the jet ski. Not many people are physically fit to ride these water monsters, you need strong muscles! RENTING FROM OTHER PLACES: There are other places offering "per minute" Jet Ski rental, conveniently located on beaches, nice and easy! Well yes, but with rental fees much steeper ($100-$150) per hour. None of them offer entire day rental, and you have limited area (imaginary boxes) where you can ride. You don't pay for fuel, launch fee! July 2019, Experienced boater

There are large running and biking paths that follow right along the lake for miles. I'm making it a goal to utilize this much more this coming summer, because the warm weather in Chicago is short but sweet and I NEED to take advantage of it! The paths and trails are clean, which is another reason I love this particular part of the lakefront. The views here are really unmatched between the water, city skyline, and boats (depending on time of year, of course). We walked along the concrete water front with our pup who loved every second of it. There were many people sitting there alone or with company also enjoying the beautiful day. If you're looking for shade, there are plenty of tree covered spaces along the sprawling lawn. It looks like there are also restrooms and playgrounds here, another huge win! Definitely plan on making many more trips back here this summer.

In addition to the harbor there is a dog beach. This beach is still used but it's much smaller then before because of the high lake level, much of the beach is now submerged Chicago does a superb job of utilizing Lake Michigan & Belmont Harbor is no exception to this. Along the lakefront Chicago has shored up its shorelines w/steel sheet piling @ the waters edge back filled w/terraced concrete steps in an attempt to minimize the erosion of the wind & waves. The next level inland are the harbors sheltered by these barriers w/inlets for boats to come and dock in relative safety. Next is the green spaces w/trees & grass areas then the running & biking paths followed by Lake Shore Drive. Belmont Harbor is just one of these harbors set up along Chicago's lakefront in this format that allow Chicagoans & visitors to enjoy the lakefront. Awesome job utilizing what I feel is one of the best assets Chicago has to offer.
