My granddaughter graduated from beauty school at Skyline College, and the entire ceremony was so well organized and enjoyable. The event beautifully showcased the Esthetics, Cosmetology, and Barber programs, and you could really see the pride and professionalism of the students and staff. Parking was very easy with plenty of spaces available, and the QR code map included with our admission ticket made finding the building smooth and stress-free. There were about 60 students graduating, so everything moved very efficiently from start to finish. It was a lovely ceremony and a wonderful experience for family and friends celebrating such a special accomplishment! read more

Skyline College - Colleges & Universities Near Me - San Bruno, California

3.5/5 avg nt special nor bad. I'd says it's good for people entering non stem majors (except respiratory and surgery tech) but I found it's geared more towards arts, barber and cosmo. Meaning you'll find a different crowd here and as a most stem focused major it's not quite my jam. They are building new areas but some of the current buildings look like they are getting outdated and of course the weather is cold and misty, as is expected in the area. Not something I particularly mind though. Overall the cafeteria is small line moves fast but the girl working, while nice, doesn't speak English and doesn't understand either so when I ask her questions outside the most basic English she can't understand what I'm saying. That is super frustrating and idt you should be working here if you cannot communicate to people. Interestingly enough I feel like their bookstore is quite nice. Canada CSM and Skyline all offer different things and I noticed CSM has not stocked a lot of supplies that can be found at skyline. CSM does have those interesting pens no one else has and Canada has the study aids and more art supplies and gear. Maybe I will have a more favorable score after I take Micro here for my last semester but not as good at CSM or Canada in my opinion read more

Had to review this community college because it's probably the best school I've ever attended throughout these past years. I already have my Bachelor's Degree, but this school will always be my favorite because of how AMAZING all the staff are. From the dean to the counselors to everything. They're so attentive and GENUINELY cares about ALL their students. This school has allowed me to go above and beyond because of their attentiveness in helping their students achieve higher education. Best school ever. read more

Fantastic educators; some of the things I learned at this school have stuck with me to this day. One professor inspired me to continue on and major in an undergrad subject I wasn't planning to major in. I was actually shocked that at the State level, the educators were NOT as qualified nor as high quality as this city college provided. Ironically, many of the SF State classes were/are taught by lecturers who were former students of State, following the same syllabus copied and pasted from another lecturer's outline. 90% of the time they use a group format wherein each week, the students lecture their own class so you rarely hear from the teacher. At Skyline, you get genuine PhD level professors who actually teach and inspire and care. You get a lot more for your money. Don't sleep on community colleges. read more

by far the worst website I've ever tried to use. totally insane. instead of just having links when you click on the links, it gives you screenshots of links that don't work. none of this makes sense. I wonder if they know that this is why enrollment might be down? impossible to use their ridiculous system. if you like going in circles then please try to sign up for classes. I don't know why community colleges have such terrible websites, but this one is the absolute worst. I can't emphasize enough how useless their website is. read more

I recently applied for a position with Skyline College. A job I was very qualified to do, since for 7 years I have been doing the same type of work for another school. As a Skyline College Alumna and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, I was very disappointed they didn't even ask me to interview for the position. It's very sad I can't be proud for having earned 3 AA's at Skyline, but over the years, it's been an embarrassment to tell people where I earned my degrees. People are just not impressed. And after having been rejected for an interview with Skyline college, it just reinforces my belief that a degree from Skyline College is almost worthless. I mean if Skyline College won't hire (or interview) their own GRADUATES - then who will????? read more

Honestly... the teachers are great and the staff are friendly; of course there will be people you don't have chemistry with But, THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT, is notorious for being TERRIBLE help. * okay you are in the process of developing it, but how could anyone have a job IF they're providing BAD information. ONE of many examples is the Filipino guy who walks with swagger, one of the most integral part to this college's system, doing nothing but showing off his persona. *how can you tell me that the CSU route for an AA-T gives you the choice of either the East Bay or SF State. You say it so confidently, that you make it seem clear that there are ONLY those locations. You could have said the other colleges on the list is well over 50miles away; the way you pro information is unrealistic Nate. read more

This school is full of a bunch of 69ers whohack and probably smoke crack. Rob williams sucks !! He kicked me out of class bc he said different answers for same questions like 3x in a row and when I asked him to clarify he said "sorry" when I didn't need an APOLOGY he was doing it on purpose !!! I love the way campus looks now. Seems so fresh after all the renovations. I had to take a pre-req for my master's program here, a couple of years ago. Microeconomics - not my favorite as I'm really not that great with numbers. Luckily there was an on-line course available so I could fit it into my busy schedule filled with work, kids activities, family basics and a new masters program. Only had to go to campus 4 times for orientation, midterms and a final (which was open notes -whoot) and it was really cheap compared to taking the class at my university. This is a good alternative if you are looking for a cost efficient education. Get your transferable units here then move on to that 4 year degree program. Or take a specialized certificate program and earn that paycheck quicker. read more

I've just moved to San Bruno and this is close to my new place. However, I decided to stop by for the first time to get some initial info about their school. The Esthetician Program is a joke. Ms. Calderon (Ms. C) is the teacher, and I'm using that term very loosely, Her program has no structure. The class curriculum depends solely on her mood for the day. On more than one occasion, we were just turned loose to do our own thing because she literally said, "I'm having a bad day" or "I'm not feeling good today" All you have to do to pass is get your hours in, and download the Esthetician Exam Prep app (an app that Ms. C actually recommends and is probably the most helpful thing she has said in a year) and then take the State Exam. read more

After leaving a 4 year college and back home living in San Francisco I needed to decide whether to enroll at CCSF or Skyline. A part of my decision was based on the fact that Skyline is big enough but not ginormous. I know where all the buildings are and I don't have to go to another campus. If you're proactive and seek out services, Skyline has a lot of services to offer their student. I'm very happy that I decided to go here and am extremely lucky to have two phenomenal professors this semester. Obviously every college has room for improvement but overall I'm happy here. And on the upside they're building another building and more parking. Sometimes parking can be a little tough but nothing ridiculous.. as in trying to find parking in SF would be more challenging.. read more

A)If you are here, get the hell out of skyline as soon as possible. For what they charge you 10$ for a frozen sandwich or other meals, you can get fresh and hot for 7 at san francisco state. B)For the 30+ programs in California community colleges. Only 6 or less actually have a transfer agreement in place. Meaning most of you are wasting away your time and shopping/food money into some class you may have to retake again cause it don't match or count at the State level.. Only exception: Administration of justice program.Other than the fact that there is no academy on campus, Prof. Aurillio pulled this program together and they starting to match up on coursework at least as of Dec 2013. Not sure if any other courses have been modified yet. Just keep in mind, just cause you pass AJ 100 doesn't mean you got the stuff to be a probation officer, you better be able to run lake Merced without jogging for more than 30 seconds total if you think you've got a shot at passing the academy physical... --Mall cops don't run, they walk around to keep an eye on the tourists...and cheap high school kids C)The parking fees will one day match up to how much it costs to go to century. Starbucks costs less than parking. D) For those coming in after or during 2014. Be ready to pay 100$ a unit. Thats coming up next if you don't get out within 1 year of the super bowl in santa clara. (Public education including college was supposed to be free) E)Crappy wifi on campus. Either blame the administration or the nerdy looking kids who go to campus just to play League of Legends, they eat up your bandwidth. Skyline college is like the little sister of the trio that makes the San Mateo county community colleges. CSM is recognized as the flagship and most of the funding is directed towards that campus. But despite the simplicity of Skyline's campus, its beauty lies in the quality of their education. Scared away by some ratemyprofessor reviews, I reluctantly enrolled in some prerequisite classes. What I found were professors in small classrooms willing to get to know and help their students if only they reciprocate. These under-appreciated professors are providing their knowledge and support to the next generation of working class members of society. Parking can be especially difficult during peak school times and at night. Cafeteria food is...well, it's typical cafeteria food. I try to avoid it. At least they don't have an accreditation problem... read more

I've taken classes a several community colleges and skyline is the best of those! I don't even bother trying to take any classes at CCSF because i hear from everyone that it is extremely difficult to get into popular core classes especially science courses. Their website is so simple to use and easy to navigate! read more

I've been going to Skyline on and off for the past couple of years (yes i know...sad isnt it?) especially since I lived less than 10 minutes away. All this changed in March when I moved back to SF- a once 10 minute commute turned into a 30 minute drive back and forth- its exhausting..especially rushing to a 6oclock class right after work and getting home past 10pm- i hate it. As much as I bitch and complain about how tiring it is, there is something about Skyline that I find really convenient. It may be the variety of night classes that fit my schedule so perfectly, or the fact that theres a parking lot to each building OR maybe because they actually remodeled the place to look a lot more decent than it was 4 years ago. It may also be the fact that they have vending machines that are stacked with snacks to keep me alive during my long and dreadful night classes. Friendly advice: You've also got to watch out for the classes and professors you pick- I would highly advise going to www.ratemyprofessor.com - pick your professors wisely- i've had my share of boooooooooooooooring ones here. Whatever the reason, i'm still here. read more

Full disclosure: I have only taken one class at Skyline. Having attended CSM and City College, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed Skyline the most. Why? Skyline is small and personal. Skyline's counseling department is absolutely fantastic. Kent Gomez and Imelda Hermosillo really enjoy their jobs...and it shows. My previous experience with counseling at CCSF was something akin to herding cattle. Also, despite the smart ass review from another poster about the quality of the food, I was nothing but impressed with the coffee shop and cafeteria. The vending machines always worked and were fully stocked. I used to enjoy getting to school early in the evening and grab a bit to eat or a cup of coffee, before my night class. My only beef with Skyline is for an unrelated reason. I volunteer with a local nonprofit organization for youth. Our group needed to rent out some space, on a Saturday afternoon, and Skyline wanted to charge us. In the end, CMS put up our group for free. read more

Holy good gracious! I always thought that Skyline was behind the San Bruno Bart Station! Little did I know, the first day I came here I was scared and lost! SOOOOOOO much fog! And I didn't know you can review a college, this is fun! The campus is normal, looks new because they are having construction. It is very different from my normal school campus back in UC Davis. I am doing a summer class here and it's sooo foggy here! The campus is kinda small. There are the basics such as library, student lounge, computer lab, and random couches to chill on. The coffee shop is expensive for a small coffee! I will write a separate review for that place. The one thing that I totally dislike about this school is the RECEPTION! Holy god, i do not know if it is just the building I am in, which is the Fine Arts Building 1. or if it's all of Skyline, but I never get reception or it's really poor reception! Thank god my phone has Wifi and it doesn't require me to have reception!! But yes the reception sucks!! Thank god I am only here for the summer! But this is overall a nice school and my Philosophy professor is very nice! PHIL 103 Dr. Antione something something if any one is interested in taking his class! It's boring but all tests are open books and notes and I didn't eve buy the book! Good luck! read more

Disclaimer: Any place that educates and inspires students will always get five stars from me. OK, at first glance, there's nothing remarkable about this campus. However, they are currently undergoing some sorely needed facility renovations and upgrades. Tonight's review is prompted by my latest visit to the campus - the first time in years. After a grueling day at work, and a long, rainy walk from their student parking lot, I was ecstatic to see the "El Capitan Espresso" cafe stand open until 8:30 p.m. in front of the main theater on campus (the cafe will soon be moving to bldg. 6). For a cafe that appeared to be extremely "portable," it was well stocked with a diverse array of refrigerated & hot goods, along with some counter top snacks. They had: home made rice crispies; bubble tea drinks; bottled waters, juices & mochas; chips; sandwiches; fruits; pastries; espresso drinks galore (even special holiday flavors like gingerbread latte); Starbucks coffee; microwave popcorn; cookies; piroshkis; And, they even sold the NY Times newspaper. The owner is friendly & super-efficient. He named the cafe after Yosemite's El Capitan, in hopes that he could do more recreational climbing since he had his own business; But, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on perspective!), he's been too busy with the business to do any climbing. As for the rest of Skyline College, I have very fond memories of undergrad summer courses here (transferable units to SFSU): - Beginning Italian; - Business Statistics; - Cultural Geography; - Human Anatomy; - Oceanography; - Sociology; - etc. And, many fun childhood memories on the college track & tennis courts! Even on foggy days/nights, my parents & later, my brother, would take us to rally on the courts or practice against the wall. This is definitely one of those colleges which serves as a wonderful resource for its local community (students and non-students alike!). MORE IMPORTANTLY, props to Skyline College for hosting "Expanding Your Horizons, in Math & Science," an all-day conference for 6th through 12 grade girls, since 1980! read more

Sorry Skyline, I kind of hate you. If you went to Westmoor or any other high school in Daly City for that matter, this school was just like high school pt 2. I only took classes at night here so I could avoid all that high school nonsense. Go to CSM instead. BULLDOGS! read more

There has been times I rejected my education and decided that it is best to take another route for the time being. Yet, when it came to Skyline's location, faculty, and students--I found it as the best place to earn my undergraduate in Music. Usually I am the type to turn to vocational activities, yet this time around I found that getting a higher education is the best for me. The location works wonders with my residence. I have numerous of ways to get to Skyline easily. The faculty are loving, patient, and understanding to where I always come back--it's honestly difficult to stay away. The students are there to connect with in a peer level. Most of all I feel at ease at this campus and recommend it to any person who desires great education and people. This school has their strict boundaries, respectful, and astounding point of views. Skyline will definitely be a school that I would want my child to attend. read more

I enjoyed my time here. As a part-time student who originally came from CCSF, this was just a better managed school. I don't know if the classes here are easier or harder, but there is definitely smaller class sizes and the administration is easier to get a hold of. I'm finally transfering into a CSU this upcoming fall, and I'm surprised it's happened at all. Hopefully the next step in getting my degree was as enjoyable as my time here. read more

I like the fact that this college has quite good number of counselors who CARE for your progress and who will help you to pick the right classes. There is TRIO/STAARS program for those who are: a). The first generation to go to college b). Low income c). Disabled You can get grant for a couple hundred dollars after writing an essay and follow through with all the requirements to attend workshops. Counselor to be noted is Guillermo Villanueva, a good, funny guy who will push you to achieve your goal. There is also EOPS for low income students. They can get free book vouchers to subsidize your expenses on textbooks. Counselors to be noted are Jeffrey Acidera and Imelda Hermosillo. EOPS director, Maria Escobar, is a nice person too. There are also quite a lot of free food throughout the semester, either it is pancake breakfast day by ASSC, BBQ by EOPPS, Pizza by TRIOO/STAARS, other kind of celebration which I was not sure for what but everyone was welcomed to grab some appetizer by Nico Martin. There is MESA with their free computer and printer usage. Director to be noted is Tiffany Reardon who is SUPER nice person and cares a lot for the students. There is Beta Theta Omicron (Phi Theta Kappa honor society) for those who has GPA above 3.5 There are also quite a lot of scholarships every spring for those who qualify. There is Honor Transfer Program to UCLA. There is Guaranteed Transfer Admittance to UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz. There is Expanding Your Horizon (EYH) every spring which is a science workshop for kids/teenager. I really have not much to complain about Skyline College except the parking area need more lights and the cafeteria need more variety - not just burgers, salads, pastas, and pizzas. Also, the most disappointing fact from this school is that this is a two year school, not four year. :D read more

Most classes you want to sign up for are available, and if they do fill up, as in a science class the instructors accommodate for the first 10 on the wait list. Instructors are also available for office hours. The instructors in the arts and PE are forgiving, so you can comfortably develop your interest in the arts without fearing judgment; excellent, patient tutors for a variety of subjects; and both a near-empty computer lab and a library with several computers, should you need it. The cafeteria is clean enough (a lot of students still live at home, mom likely still cleans up after them); new furniture; even brews Starbucks. Wifi is available without login, so it's not the most secure (warning). Several job fairs, and if you see Ted from the Sparkpoint Center, he sends out a list of job openings. This campus's pride and joy is its Sparkpoint Center. I can't relate for the pantry, but I needed insurance. A student calls The South San Francisco Clinic, hands you the phone, and you schedule an appointment to sign up for what you're eligible for. I went to my appointment as scheduled, and it turns out, I wasn't even in the system. I called Sparkpoint Center, and Monique couldn't even fix that mistake. The best she could do was set up an appointment--I could've done that myself. What are they being paid to do here? Is the funding only going to the pantry? Don't bother scheduling appointments for their other services; if you need something within the week, you won't get it--they're "next available appointment" is a week later. read more

I have never been more disappointed then with Skyline College's enrollment process. Their website is not easy to navigate. Making contact with their enrollment department was like dealing with the DMV. I met with a counselor who had a rushed attitude. Her vibe was very government worker who could care less. She told me to go home and add my class online. When I did I kept receiving a message stating that I couldn't add a class. Sent an email to the Interim Dean of Counseling AND the Dean of Enrollment. I received an email with apologies for the Dean of Enrollment. He told me what I needed to change online to add a class. I made the change and still couldn't enroll. Sometimes you have to see the sign and move on. What a waste of San Mateo taxpayers money. read more

One of the greatest values in terms of higher education available in the Bay Area. The other school that would be comparable would be CCSF in the city, but if given the choice I'd go with Skyline and its sister schools in the SMCCD system. One reason is you've got a lot more options in terms of scheduling and class availablity. You can easily take some classes at CSM and some at Skyline for example. Also this past summer, CCSF was closed for the summer session (budget issues?) but SMCCD was still going. With the budget issues all across the board in terms of public education funding, the problems of class sizes and availablity will probably get worse. There seems to be construction at both CSM and Skyline campus (not sure about Canada) but that hasn't interferred much with the school itself and afterwards, it'll probably result in much newer facilities. Even with that though, the existing facilities are very good, many of the classrooms have full AV capabilities, parking is not a problem, and the student lounge here usually is pretty open. GARLIC FRIES for around 2 bucks... YUM. What a lot of people don't realize too is that many of the faculty teaching here are also some of the same teachers from SF State and other "higher" Colleges so often you'll have teachers teaching here, bringing the same level of experience and curriculum as you'll find in a more expensive school while paying the cheap community college price. Even with the incremental fee increases, this still is a great value considering how expensive CSU and UC or private schools can get. Don't listen to the naysayers. There is no shame in taking your lower division units at a community college then transfering to a UC. In fact, that's the smartest thing to do. Here's what they say straight off University of California's website: "Junior-level transfer students from California community colleges are given priority consideration for admission." Coupled with the many TAG programs offered, and assuming you don't slack off and remained focused, it's arguably easier getting into the UC of your choice going here and transferring than straight from high school. Don't be like some people and settle for CSU when you want to go UC... read more

I'm a high school student taking summer classes here, and so far it's been good. I'm taking Bio 140, which is a fairly easy class; much easier than any Science class I have taken in high school (I go to Mills). It can get a little boring at times, but the teacher does try to make things interesting. I'm also taking Explorations in Clay, which I am really enjoying right now! Anyone into the arts should take it. Great teacher, resources/tools are plentiful. I would add some crude remarks, but I don't want to take chances in that a certain teacher ends up reading this review and gives me a bad grade in the class. Maybe after I am done with the classes. read more

This is a really good community college, with a lot to offer. Since doing some renovations, the place looks very nice as well. There are some really laid back and good teachers here. I love that they offer a lot of courses where you can enhance your computer skills, which are great when job-searching! They also have cosmetology, which is really nice. When I went here, I really enjoyed my time. Not so much the fog, though. I still go back to this place to think. Beautiful, clean, and organized campus. I like the layout of the campus and it's almost impossible to get lost. The cafeteria is decent, the bookstore is nice, and the people are relatively friendly and easy going. Minus one star for the atrocious library. OMG SFSU's temporary library was nicer than this one. I was looking forward to attending Skyline during summer classes in order to fulfill my requirements and get ahead. Because of Covid-19 their call center was automated and they asked me to email them instead. It said to wait 3 days for a response but it has been more than that. They need to step up their counseling and services dept. since these are college students careers hanging in the balance. I'll be taking my summer classes somewhere else because of the lack of care they have for students, a great first impression. My advice for anyone who is deciding between Skyline and another college is you should be wary of how atrocious they're counseling dept. is, I know this because my sister attends there and they do not invest in their students' futures. read more

Sure, a lot of the teachers were crunchy and parking on the first day of classes was a pain in the ass. But looking back throughout my academic career, I don't think I've ever learned at a more fun campus than Skyline. Commuting from San Francisco, it was pretty easy to get to, the weather's great and teachers were really involved with their work because they loved doing it, and it made learning fun. Other schools I went to were City College of San Francisco, College of San Mateo, UC Riverside for my BA and the University of Oregon where I finally ended up with an MFA in Creative Writing. The truth is, I fucked around a lot in high school and barely graduated. Towards the tail end of my years in junior college, I didn't think I'd be able to transfer, but I figured I'd apply to all the UC's just for the hell of it, and I got into UCR and UCSC. If you're a kid that's thinking about taking the community college rout, damn it, you can do it! Skyline is an excellent place to start. read more

I loved this school and was surprised by the amazing quality of the professors. It was a bargain! The campus is lovely, too. The problem is the administration. They sweep harassment under the rug and victim blame like they're getting a bonus for it. Have a legit issue with a professor and half your class makes a complaint about it? It'll be your fault by lunchtime and no matter how many witnesses back you up, administration will refuse to speak to them. They will vilify and target anyone who dares to speak up and demand a fair admin review until they've driven students to drop out. More than one student this semester ended their education this way. It's abusive and they protect each other so they can continue with impunity. read more

I got an A.S. from Skyline in Network Engineering and I have landed very good jobs since, so I'm giving the school 5 stars for that.
