I have been going to Ruk since like 2015? 2016? And I normally go here 1-2 times a year. I moved to Jackson 5yrs ago and still go all the way to Bayonne for her! It's hard to find someone who knows your hair! So, I've been going to her for a hot minute! I don't know why people are saying Ruk and her crew are not professional. They are talkative, relatable, and real people. Don't you want to feel comfortable esp if you're going to be In a salon for a few hours?? Honestly, I don't know Ruk's crew by name besides her daughter but I talk to everyone and everybody is great and super nice! Ruk is just a whole bunch of awesomeness. She knows I have no idea what the heck she's talking about when she's explaining stuff to me. But is trust her and give her full range on what to do. Whether highlights, lowlights, balayage, whatever! I know my hair will be taken care of and the products she uses won't damage my hair. They also added an addition to the salon. So, they also offer facials and eyelash treatment done by her daughter. This place is cool, hip, laid back, but get the work done. Depending on what services you get, expect to be here for a few hours too. Since this shop is in Bayonne, there is one street parking. My suggestion is to make your appt as early as possible to secure parking in the front or else you're going to end up driving around looking. I've suggested this salon to many people I know. I still suggest Ruk's salon to this day! read more

I made an appt with Ruk specifically via phone but she never touched my hair or even talked to me. I have no idea who did my hair. I actually saw the IG influencer Jeanne there who I know via her IG that she is a frequent customer. Ruk's entire attention was on this influencer. I guess it makes sense that the salon would care more about her than a new customer. However, it still felt a bit crappy. Just be transparent if there is no capacity or please set the correct expectations. I would have totally been OK waiting another couple of weeks if needed. There was another customer who came in for a consultation with Ruk and Ruk took about 1 hour to finally talk to her. Then when that customer was trying to book an appt, you can tell Ruk was trying to have the customer book with another salonist. I haven't wrote a Yelp review in a long time, but here I am. Overall, ok result, but probably one of the worst salon experience I've ever had. I used to work in NY and would go to a salon there. I came here because my previous salon is too far for me. I decided to come here because it's well known and it's closer to me. I was able to get an appointment with Ruk after DMing her on IG. I've been getting my hair done grey for years already. Some stylists would be better than others on making my hair grey, but also frying my hair at the same time. I also went from balayage to just bleaching my whole hair, which that's what it was before coming here but my roots grew out. My appointment with Ruk started off with her asking about my hair journey to the best of my memory, what I want to do, and then the rest of the appointment was her making comments that made me feel like my hair was an inconvenience for her. I knew the appointment was going south when I was telling her my hair journey and she says at the end with a sigh, "Well, I guess I'm the last stop." Throughout the appointment, she kept making comments such as, "I don't know what to do with your hair," or "I can't breathe while doing your hair. We'll figure it out." She also talked to other people more while doing my hair instead of getting to know me. Mind you, I was there from 10AM to about 7-8pm. She also combed my hair a lot and doing it pretty hard. My scalp was hurting and I feel like I lost so much hair. Besides Ruk, there was an assistant who was nice, but also seemed new. She was washing my hair... and then accidentally had a bunch of water go onto my face. I actually asked for an extra towel because one half of my face was wet. You also know something was wrong when my whole back ended up being wet. Ruk had to use the blow dryer to dry my back.. Near the end, my hair ended up alright. With one toner, my hair looked like a sort of bright grey/ash blonde. I honestly would've been ok with that, but Ruk went onto do another toner so that I wouldn't see the yellow/brown in my hair peeking through. So we do that... and my hair looks nearly black. I'm not sure what happened, but it looked so dark in the end but in certain lighting it was a dark grey/black with a little bit of bright blonde. I loved it at first, but then going home and seeing it, I got a little upset. She said it would fade out, which I'm grateful it did. Ruk recommended products that would help my hair stay healthy and not brassy. She also gave me a sample of shampoo and conditioner. The Redken line definitely is worth it though. At the end of my appointment, I was just so fed up with everything that happened and wanted to cry a little bit. I even called my boyfriend after to tell him everything that happened. Also, I also ended up with bleach spots on one of my favorite pants. I ended up paying a lot of money and did somewhat like the end result as I had washed my hair after 72hrs, but I was upset with how the whole appointment played out that I'm not sure if I want to come back here. I would rather make the journey back to NY than have this type of service. read more

I had a bridal trail yesterday that went horribly. For starters, I got to my appointment time at 3:30 pm (someone called me the day prior to move up my appointment to 3:30 instead of 4) I was greeted and then ignored. I was very clear on the phone that I would be driving an hour and a half from my home to come to you. My time was blatantly disrespected. I was told to sit and wait. I was finally taken back 40 minutes later for makeup by Mo making the time 4:10. While my car is on a meter. While the girl who was doing, my makeup was sweet but the mascara on my eyes was only on half of my lashes and on my eyelid that I had to point out. She got glue all over my cheek and had to peel it off once it dried with tweezers. Also, my lips and eyebrows were uneven. I asked Jonalyn for curls and one braid which is a pretty easy task but I got mated waves and a glued-down braid. My hair was also burned by the time I left and had a horrendous odor. It still smells like burnt hair. I am so discouraged from this experience where I was supposed to leave feeling beautiful and I left looking horrible. I took so many pictures of how disgraceful this look came out. It's pretty bad when the owner sees how bad this is going and "tries" to fix the damage. 6 hours plus travel and $270 bucks later. I emailed for a refund and got no reply back. I'm so discouraged by the poor quality I received I don't even want to do another bridal trial and just want to do it myself. read more

I went here once and will never go back. Ruk, the owner, she was 1/2 hour late for my appointment, which I found unprofessional. She was talking about all these supposed celebrity clients, but she works and owns a salon in Bayonne. Not sure how those two things go together, but I let her talk, because I just wanted my hair to look good. Ruk did both a haircut and color. She seemed rushed and I supposed she was already running late. The haircut was choppy and much shorter than I wanted. For color, I brought in a picture for reference - I was looking for a color like Selena Gomez has with caramel highlights. Ruk was supposed to give me caramel highlights, but I walked out with way too many highlights and the toner was blonde - which almost looked like a single process platinum. My hair color base is dark brown. She didn't listen to what I wanted. She told me I looked better that way and how beautiful I looked. Well, when I left, I was crying. My best friend offered to take me to another salon to fix it, which I ultimately did. Both the haircut and color were very expensive. I paid over $250 with the haircut, color and conditioning treatment. Very upsetting experience. She did not seem to care that I did not like it and she did not offer to fix it. read more

Extremely unprofessional Cut, color and style took 7 hours!! 3+ hours to style hair, twice I was late to functions because it took that long to style my hair, just curl and style. I do not recommend this salon. The trial run for my wedding hair was good but the day of, it turned out nothing like the trial run and was actually ugly. I told the owner (who was doing my hair that day), and she brushed me off by saying, "oh, I'll fix that" an proceeded to hairspray it even more! Because I was the last to go being the bride and time was not on my side, I had to leave and just accept my hair looking horrible. After the wedding, I spoke with the owner and all she could do was get tearful and tell me how much pride she had in her work. Never offered an apology (I didn't like my hair and told her the day of and she brushed me off!), never offered a refund and we paid her THOUSANDS of dollars to do 7 bridesmaids. Just a horrible experience with an owner that doesn't know proper business fairness. And for the prices they charge, you'd think they were top notch. They don't deserve what they charge...no way. The owner is a nice person but competent, she is not. I will never go back and recommend the same for anyone looking to book at Skye Stylez. read more

I look forward to my appointments with Ruk. It means I will have at least another two months of compliments on my hair everywhere I go. Ruk understands highlights, balayage, ombre, lowlights, toning, base color and how all of that comes together if you want it to. She takes no pleasure in the final product unless you do. She also isn't someone who will sit there and say yes to whatever you want (because let's face it, sometimes what's trendy at the moment doesn't always suit you but sometimes we're so caught up in the hype) unless you are really sure about it. She could have easily taken my money for multiple sessions to give me the grey hair I wanted, but she sat there and explained to me realistically my skintone is naturally fair, I also don't tan easily and I don't really wear much makeup (i.e. bronzer) so if I wanted to go gray it will wash me out, we can still do if I really want it but she was just suggesting either blonde or even purple (another trendy color) would work much better. So we ended up going blonde (my first time going that light) and even without going gray I was able to see exactly what she meant (the ashiness of the blonde was sorta washing me out already, still looked amazing I got compliments even in my conservative company). She will analyze your hair and will always try to suggest the process and products with least damage. I love how when Olaplex was first coming to the east coast I immediately called her to ask if she would be including it in with her services and she immediately said "Yes, already ordered and just waiting for it to arrive." It really shows that Ruk is on top of her game and really passionate about using only the best products in her studio. I was afraid that cutting my long hair to the medium length that's in right now would make my round face blow up even more, she says no way she loved the idea and now I get more compliments than ever with the hair down to my butt. She has earned my complete trust. Another thing, my husband has gone to a barbershop all his life and last year decided to grow his hair out a little and since he sees how much I love Ruk, he went to her also to maintain his slightly longer hair and now he doesn't want to go back to a barbershop ever again even though he's considering chopping off the long hair. She takes her time even with men's haircuts and like a real stylist does his fade with scissors (which my husband thought was a thing only high end barbershops did). For the quality of work and products Ruk uses, her prices are beyond fair. I work in the city, am willing to pay top dollar for really great work, and live about 45 minutes away from Ruk and I will still go to her every time for cut and/or color. read more
