A Positive and Supportive Experience with Sensei Rick!…read more In January 2024, I discovered Sensei Rick's dojo through our school's list of approved physical education providers, and I knew it would be a great opportunity for my son. At 10 years old, my son has truly benefitted from the structured environment that promotes focus, respect, and personal growth. Sensei Rick's teaching has provided a positive space for my son to build his skills. Sensei Rick is excellent at connecting with children, offering individualized attention to ensure every student feels supported and valued. He goes above and beyond by offering thoughtful touches, such as water breaks and helping students with tasks like tying their belts. His ability to remember each child's name and engage with them individually shows his genuine care and commitment. One of the things that sets Sensei Rick apart is how he spotlights his students. For example, the children once sang "Happy Birthday" to a fellow student, creating a positive, community-oriented environment. There's also a wall of achievement where Sensei Rick recognizes students for their accomplishments, whether it's awards, certificates, or milestones. It's so nice to see my son's name proudly displayed on the wall next to his Best Friend's President's Award for Educational Excellence--something that truly brings a sense of pride. Sensei Rick brings students to the front of the class to congratulate them, which fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment. The dojo is well-maintained, clean, and has ample parking, with comfortable seating for families to observe. The children have developed strong, supportive friendships, and the positive, respectful environment at the dojo has had a wonderful impact on my son. It's a place where kids can thrive and feel encouraged. I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and proud to have found this dojo through the resources provided by our school. We value this dojo so much that we've been paying out of pocket for the summer sessions. Despite the 30-minute drive one way, my son looks forward to every class, and I can see the positive impact it's had on his focus and determination. The life lessons Sensei Rick shares at the start of each session have been beneficial for my son's overall growth. Thanks to Sensei Rick's dedication, my son has ninja-like reflexes and enjoys practicing karate at home. He is committed to earning his black belt, and I'm excited to see his continued progress. It is a great studio comes with a lot of personality. People are super friendly and helpful. I got situated. The cartoon illustration on the wall is awesome and somewhat inspiring! Ha. Flooring was not your typical studio flooring. More of a fuzzy mat texture. 60 min class always come with their own sequences. Good to see each instructor's preference. I think the classroom itself doesn't retain heat very well. So the heater was on the whole time with hot air circulating. It is not a quiet class (with hot air blowing) but it masks my bones cracking. Ha. Instructor is nice. They also offer inferno Pilates. I noticed the weight offered here is decent. What started out as a great experience for my son has turned around drastically. During a sparring…read moresession, a coach decided to call my son out "you can't just lay there" multiple times. He was going against a girl that was two belts higher and is very good at JJ. He was trying to get out of her guard. My son after the third time being called out in front of his peers got embarrassed. I could see his body language start to give up. So at water break I told him I know you're not just laying there but try something different. She eavesdropped on our convo and didn't agree and kinda shouted "I was just giving constructive criticism" from across the room. I have coached kids before and that's not how you do it. I expressed this and told her maybe say "hey try this, or do that" but wasn't heard. After practice we settled it, shook hands and said we would put it behind us. A week later we get a text that we aren't welcome any longer. We have been blocked and she will no longer communicate with us. I asked if I could bring my son by so she can explain why he's no longer welcome with honesty, because he witnessed everything, and she has declined to answer. One of her points was that women get a bad wrap in the JJ community. I told her I have daughters of my own and empower them everyday, and she rolled her eyes and laughed. Now that we are gone I can look back and notice a few things for people to know before signing up. They teach in Clearlake/Ukiah/and Windsor in one day. By the time they get to Windsor they look tired, are late a lot, and most of the time just look like they are going through the motions to be done with the day. My son started out not wanting to go but ended up looking forward to it, making friends and being eager to learn. Bruno and Martel know their craft and helped my son progress in the span of 8 months. For an ego to get in the way of a good student and teammate has me very upset. My son's feeling will be hurt but we will put this behind us and go elsewhere.

Terrible past 2 visits, we're getting rushed per hole. We had started setting timers to not go past…read more15 min per hole, other patrons while playing would tell us to let them pass because they were playing fast but when they would pass us would slow down very significantly and my crew got spoken to multiple times. We were the only ones being rushed when there were high schoolers just on their phones taking their time and other as well going very slow. The groundskeepers were trying to do their thing and it would slow the pace a bit but the Marshalls didn't care. I really didn't wanna see it this way but we also happened to be the only Hispanic group and after the way we were being rushed and picked it it's pretty reasonable to assume not very nice things. Overall I've had great experiences at the course over the years but this newer staffing is very interesting.
