I have trained attorneys, law enforcement, investigators, survivors, family members at the national as well as state and local levels. I know elder and abuse law: including financial exploitation and the ethics of best practice. After observing, and being impacted negatively, by Ms Yazzolino's year's long handling of my family's trust case, which was shocking on so many levels and required a court order to resolve, I will simply state that I would never recommend her to anyone, ever. Ever.

After reading Nyla McCarthy's Yelp review posted on March 6, 2026, I felt compelled to respond…read more Whitney Yazzolino was MY attorney in the case that Ms. McCarthy referenced. This was a highly contested and emotionally exhausting court case that took several years to resolve. Ms. McCarthy's adult children were the opposing party, and they were represented by their own attorney. Ms. Yazzolino was professional, thorough and diligent in representing me through this proceeding. My experience with her was nothing short of outstanding. Ms. Yazzolino went above and beyond, made the process more bearable, and I am proud to say that I prevailed. For what it is worth, this case closed a few years ago. Ms. McCarthy was not a party and had no legal interest in the outcome. For anyone interested in reading the facts of this case for themselves, it can be found at Multnomah County Case No. 19PB05462. I would highly recommend her services. She is compassionate, fair and ethical .

Going into this, I thought it would be incredibly intimidating and complex but it was surprising direct - not because it is - but because of the way Sam was able to explain things in a way it was easy to get. And I should mention that in addition to Sam, everyone there was incredibly kind and helpful as my wife and I set up our living trust. So after years (yes, years) of putting this off, we finally have the peace of mind of a trust. And not just because of some paper but because these people helped give us some confidence in the process as well. So lucky we were referred here!

My experience with Carolyn Janzen at Rugged Law was severely disappointing…read more I retained Ms. Janzen for a family law matter and terminated the representation in less than 48 hours because I lost confidence in the representation I was receiving. One of my primary concerns was that my $14,000 retainer check was deposited before I ever signed an engagement agreement or fee agreement. That immediately raised concerns for me. After ending the representation, I was charged over $1,000 for what I believe amounted to approximately one meeting and photocopying of my documents. I disputed the charges, requested that the invoice be revised, and attempted to resolve the matter directly. I was unable to reach a resolution, so I filed a complaint and fee dispute with the Oregon State Bar. My understanding is that the firm chose not to participate in the fee dispute process. I also became uncomfortable with the repeated discussions about the firm's use of AI in legal work and ultimately decided this firm was not the right fit for me. I cannot recommend this firm based on my experience. I encourage anyone considering hiring Rugged Law to carefully review the fee agreement before paying a retainer, ask detailed questions about billing practices, and make sure they are completely comfortable with the representation before proceeding.
