I was needing legal help in applying for Social Security Disability. I was also fighting with the Department of Labor Office of Workers Compensation for a case concerning my left knee. I checked on line and found Skinner & Associates and gave them my information and Katie called me back and was extremely professional and compassionate. I signed on with them and upon receiving my packet in the mail, I collected all of the requested information, doctors, addresses and returned the information for her review. This office went above and beyond to make sure my case was properly presented. They facilitated me getting me my regular social security initiated along with getting my wife an increase in her monthly SS payments due to an unknown to us benefit for her ex's benefits. They were quite adept at working with the local social security office which greatly and without stress facilitated our professional interactions. Katie promptly addressed all concerns and issues in an empathetic and caring way. She was non-adversarial in her approach handling all document requests by the Social Security Claims Representative. It took a year to finally have the case adjudicated successfully. I had received a schedule award from the DOL OWCP in two parts as a result of a separate case for the injury while still working. This unfortunately counted against me for the back pay that would have normally been forthcoming. This sum is where Skinner & Associates would receive there compensation from my case. This caused them to essentially do my case for free. I was perfectly willing to pay them out of my schedule award. Katie said that was not necessary, as they take it out of the back pay and since there was not any my case was free. I was shocked and a little guilty as their firm was so helpful, kind and professional and too not get paid for service they performed seems just wrong and unfair. I would have given them 5 stars but there were times when I was desperate for information and it took what seemed like forever to get a response or I just didn't get one. However, I was eventually awarded my full disability. I'll warn you the process is long, hardly anyone is approved right away it took 3 years for me to finally be approved. The first two were me and my doctor alone. I hired Skinner & Associates after I ran out of savings and was living out of my truck. In hind sight I should have hired an advocate or attorney immediately and possibly speed the process. Don't expect the service for free, it's a chunk of your back pay, that's the money from Social Security from the first day you couldn't work to your first check is paid. Social Security does deduct a period of time kinda like state disability or unemployment insurance. I had no one to tell me what to expect or to seek advice from so after going through the process here is my advice including things your expected to do. 1) file right away. I waited until my state disability was exhausted 1 year when I should have filed for Social Security right away to get the process rolling. 2) hire an attorney or advocate like Skinner & Associates. 3) If you are physically able be your own advocate meaning make sure you get all paperwork, exams, medical records to the appropriate persons as quickly as possible. 4) be persistent. Keep asking about your case. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. 5) be patient, this is a long trying process. 6) be prepared financially for the long haul. If you file right away and you had been working you'll have a year in the State of California of State Disability payments to help pay the bills while you are fighting for your Social Security but try to prepare when that runs out. Great group of people. They are Social Security Disability advocates, meaning they deal ONLY in Social Security Law, but dang are they good!

I would not refer anyone to these advocates. They don't get back to you like they say they will. The people I have spoken to are rude. One lady got on the phone and without even a "hello how are you?" Says " When we find out any information we will call you". I found that totally rude. My daughter finally got her social security now she has to pay $6,000 for being treated like crap. read more

I was determined to be physically disabled, but lost my claim because it wasn't submitted properly. I know what went wrong and intend to refile; however, I wanted to do it through Skinner & Associates to make sure I didn't miss anything. I voiced this when I made my appointment, and when I arrived, the first thing I was told was that they wouldn't help me because I didn't meet certain parameters. I do not know who I spoke with on the phone, but I do feel that there was a lack of communication between the workers, and it could have been confirmed if I met their parameters over the phone instead of wasting everyone's time. read more
