I am truly speechless! I decided to treat myself to a Self-Care Saturday, and as a mental health therapist, I know I don't do that nearly as often as I should. After hearing about Skin HC from a friend, I decided to stop by, and lucky me--they had just begun their soft opening. I will say, I am very picky, but I honestly can't believe how amazing this space is. It is not only beautifully decorated, but the service was absolutely superb from start to finish. I was greeted by name and welcomed with delicious spa water, which immediately made me feel cared for. I then settled into the Release Massage, and my therapist was probably the best I've ever had--so professional, skilled, and accommodating. After my service, I was offered a turmeric ginger tea of my choice, which was such a thoughtful touch. The owner also came over and was so welcoming, inclusive, and excited to share details about everything they offer. She shared that her vision is to build community, and that truly warmed my heart. She even introduced me to their pillow room, which was absolute heaven. I truly cannot say enough about this little slice of heaven. They absolutely have a customer for life! However, getting an appointment is hard because they are booked (great for them!) It happened to be their One year anniversary and they threw a shindig! I came for the event to experience the "vibe". The ambiance was very nice and the aesthetic felt like I was in Kim Kardashian's house. Everything is neutral and organic textures. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because the lobby area is tiny. It was super packed in there with maybe only 30 people (half being staff). They had a decent drink selection for it to be a skincare establishment. They provided snacks and offered memberships. Because I don't live in the area, I did not purchase a membership. I had an amazing experience at Skin. I'd been wanting to visit for a year now and finally made it happen. I just knew from the moment I jumped online and found an appointment time. No issue at all. And upon following up to confirm, Josh contacted me promptly and guided me through selecting the Hammam and the Sculpt facial. I ended up making my appointment day a "me" day to usher in October and a new season, a Birthday treat for myself. The Hammam was what I most wanted. I feel like Josh really listened to what I wanted and guided me not only as far as treatments but ensured I knew exactly what was entailed, what enhancements I could add such as the foot scrub, eucalyptus bush and head wash. Don't skip any of these :-). He also advised that I could stick around as long as I wanted after and that I would be served miso soup after and could opt for a cocktail. Upon arrival, I was welcomed into an amazingly inviting space. And the aroma, lighting, it was transportive. No devices are allowed which is great! You leave your cares at the door literally. The decor and music is such a mood. Everyone is so attentive, my belongings were taken and secured, I was given footwear to change into and I was offered a beverage and to just chill. I was greeted by Lexxy who walked me thru what to expect with my Hamaam. I love that she sat down and took care to explain the treatment, what she'd be doing and made sure I was comfy instead of rushing me to the treatment. Hamamm is such an intimate experience, comfort is a MUST. As beautiful as the lobby is, the treatment rooms are GORGEOUS and the Hamaam room is dreamy. The patina and the window OMG. The treatment was just divine and I can write a book on the act of surrendering to just being nurtured and cared for and letting go of inhibitions and insecurities and how you feel empowered and just grateful for the vessel that is your body. The dry brush and the bubble blanket were my fave features. But an amazing experience overall, I don't know the last time I felt so catered to. I love that time is extended after to just sit with yourself. I was given a robe to chill before being introduced to Breezy who did my sculpt facial. So sweet and she approached treatment the same which was great b/c what I selected wasn't entirely what I thought so we made a slight adjustment. But she is awesome and such great knowledge and expertise. After I was done, I legit felt like a whole, new person. EXACTLY what I wanted. Every expectation was exceeded. I made the trek from DC and so worth it. And to my surprise they offered me to chill in the pillow room. I didn't even know they had this room! Now I wanna replicate at home LOL! Breezy showed me in and stayed for great conversation regarding implementing practices at home. Josh politely served my soup and tea in there. It was amazing. I wasn't rushed out and probably stuck around for a good hour talking to Josh and shopping their retail area which I really enjoyed. 2 pairs of shoes, incense and pins later, I finally got out of there but not before saying bye and thanking all of them immensely for the service and for being such good stewards and making me feel welcome. I love everything about this place and their mission! It's more than a spa, it's a social club and wellness space designed for relaxation and connection. They offer wonderful services like facials, waxing, and hammans. They also have an open space for reflexology and meeting people. They celebrate the unity of strangers here in a way I wish more local businesses did in Richmond. They will be opening a cafe section soon. They encourage people to come and work in the space and meet others. I came in for a hamman ritual. I grew up doing hamman with my mom, so I was really excited to find this service available near me in Richmond. First of all, their heated hamman room was gorgeous! So aesthetically pleasing! My spa companion was so sweet. I'm used to the scrubbing part of the ritual being much harder. My spa companion was both receptive to my requests and checked-in just enough to make sure I was comfortable. Two notes for those trying this out for the first time: If you have a sensitive nose, be sure to note that before your session because there are a lot of lovely smells from all the products. And you will be laying down on a hard surface most of the session, just something to be mindful about for sensitive knees or backs. After my service, they offered me a drink in their comfy pillow room. This is a safe environment and it is embodied in everyone who works here. When you first walk into Skin. by HC you are surrounded by pure love and peace. I love how accepting they are here. TLDR: way too expensive for what you receive; 22% required gratuity should be built into the pricing rather than on the client. It's not a tip if it's required. Terrible music choice for the session areas, overlapping with top40 songs in front of house. Was gifted a facial by my boss and really wanted to enjoy it because I'd been curious for a while. Unfortunately won't be back. They don't accept cash & the 22% mandatory tip is outrageous. If you're charging an arm and a leg for services (over $200 for a 60minute facial), pay your employees fairly! Was asked 3 separate times if I am allergic to anything before I even arrived for my appointment, and the intake form they send feels invasive. It asks for a bunch of info that they really do not need for anything other than sending you ads; just leave it blank. It's none of their business where you live. You're not doctors, you're aestheticians. Olivia & Kelsey were sweet, but Joshua gave off extremely pretentious vibes. The way he treated me when I entered in the tip amount that I could afford was extremely rude. He may as well have called me a peasant. Kelsey was nice, I liked her follow up tips, but she didn't apply firm pressure as I had requested during the service and missed a few sections during my derma-planing & massage. I also asked her to turn down the music they were playing in the back area and she basically said there was nothing she could do about it because the speaker was right outside of the curtain?! Please just turn it off next time if a client asks. Music with sirens in it is not relaxing. (Track ID: Carbon Based Lifeforms "MOS 6581"). To make matters worse they were playing top40 hits in the front of house. The two overlapping made it impossible to relax. You could play rainstorms, ocean waves, birdsongs, or binaural tones. I had an amazing EXPERIENCE! Skin is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle or monotony of everyday life. I treated my dad and myself with a reflexology appt. My dad had a quick 15 minute foot massage. I had a quick 30 minute head to toe massage, targeting my neck and shoulders. I get massages regularly (at least once a month). I have had professional massages all over the world. Lisa was the BEST massage I have ever had!!! After massages, we relaxed in the lobby with hot tea and a peaceful ambiance I'll definitely be back with friends! read more

Sadly, they are very old school with confirmations and you must answer the phone or they will cancel your appointment. I work down the street and I have a few friends who have visited for other services. I was really in need of some relaxation and thought the pictures online captured a place of serene and tranquility. Booking the service was easy online - they reached out afterwards to confirm my appointment and sent documents for me to complete before coming in. When I walked into the space, I immediately felt like it look exactly as it did online and was very warm and welcoming. A staff member of the spa greeted me and took my coat, shoes and umbrella and provided me with their sanitized spa shoes (which were very comfortable). I arrived 15 minutes early so I sat in the front area and sipped water they provided me with until it was time for my appointment. During this time I was really hoping to relax and unwind until my appointment was ready, which I did to an extent but I felt like the music playing was not at all on track with the vibe they were trying to or should be trying to provide within a space. I'm a huge fan of hiphop, r&b, and pop but it's not what I want to hear during a spa visit, even while just waiting for my service. It threw me off a little but didn't ruin the experience. My spa companion who was providing me with my massage for the day came and introduced themselves and escorted me to the back. Before entering the back you are instructed to wash your hands. The room where I would receive my massage was separated by a curtain. The back space was very cute and matched the vibe - I didn't feel like I was in Richmond but somewhere out of the country. During my massage the spa companion asked what pressure I liked and checked in to make sure it was what I wanted. The massage was very good - but the music in back was way too loud for me. I'm used to spa music being somewhat low. This time it was definitely music that would hear in a spa but just a tad to loud for me to really relax my mind. Because my massage room was one of the first closest to the front waiting area, I could hear conversations - which also wasn't as relaxing for me. It made sense as to why they music may have been loud so that sound doesn't bleed through from the front but it still did. After my massage I was led into a small quiet room full of pillows where I could relax for as long as I liked. It was dark, quiet, and quaint. They provided a small light and sounds of this ocean - this was the sound and volume I had hoped for the entire time. They offered me two options of tea, I chose the ginger. After about 2-3 minutes my tea was ready and I sat, drank my tea, relaxed, and reflected for just under 5 minutes more. At the cafe area I retrieved my things and cashed out for the day. They require at least a 23% gratuity for the spa companion, which I was happy to give. Overall it was a good experience but could have been much better with just some fine tuning on the smaller details. Parking was terrible. You are unable to choose your own staff even if you enjoyed previous service. There is a mandatory 20% tip which is fine if the service is good but mine wasn't. I purchased a gift card for a friends birthday from their website. My friend got a scrub and when she gave them the gift card they told her that it was for only the nail salon. So my friend had to come out of $200 out of her pocket and couldn't use her gift card. The website did not distinguish well that the gift card would ONLY be used for the nail salon and because of that, they should have honored her service. read more
