I was visiting from the states and mentioned to my friend I was thinking of getting Birkenstocks…read more She mentioned she had a great recommendation for a store with expertise in Birkenstock and that she could use a new pair herself, so we paid a visit to The First Step. Peter was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, not just about Birkenstocks but even about feet. He made a very helpful assessment about my feet and recommended both the size and style that would work for me, also helping me learn more about preventing some potential challenges with my toe alignment. While I didn't end up leaving with a pair, mainly because I was indecisive about the style and color, I did leave with much more knowledge about Birkenstock and what to consider about footwear that would be best for me. My friend and her partner both left with a pair and also got fantastic help to determine the right size and style. I was particularly impressed how much service they provide around repairs and care. It's very rare to find a business with such personal service but also a mind for sustainability and quality. Highly recommend The First Step!

The staff are really helpful and very patient. My latest was visit was to purchase a warm and waterproof pair of winter boots. My sales associate had so many good recommendations for me and helped me make my decision. When I tested them out at work and found that they were too small, they were very accommodating of my exchange and went above and beyond to refund my $ back. They have such great stock (Blundstones, Birckenstocks, Uggs, etc.) and even backpacks, hats and other accessories. Would highly recommend this place the next time you're looking for a pair of shoes!

I asked them to re-ship the item and have not heard back. But if you are in the US, do not order from them until they can actually deliver the items! They said 5-7 business days and we have far exceeded that at this point yet they just continue to offer excuses and not a remedy.

I needed a new pair of cute but super comfy and supportive sandals for the summer. I ventured to Walking on a Cloud. I was still in the market for Mephistos but not the Milly style. The sales associate was great and even brought out a pair that were like the Milly but had a lower heel and better support and were not on display. I loved them, but as it turns out, one of the many little crystals adorning the top had already fallen out (I had read in some of the show reviews that this might happen). She told me that there was a 6 month warranty on any shoe defects, but I wasn't going to chance it. She helped me find a super cute, narrower and sexier comfort sandal in bronze and gold with python print. They are super comfy and beautiful. I have to say that despite the good service, I don't know how much traffic this location gets. Every time I've gone in, I've been the only person in the store. On Queen St., that is a rarity.

Very disappointed with both the quality of these shoes and how this issue was handled…read more I purchased them in mid-February and only began wearing them in mid-March. By April 12th--after fewer than ten wears--the sole completely detached. That is a clear product defect, so I expected accountability from New Balance in resolving this. Instead of replacing a faulty product, I was told to return them, wait weeks for a gift card, and then repurchase them myself. With the price now higher than when I originally bought them, this would leave me paying an additional $36 out of pocket for a defective item, while also being without running shoes for an extended period. This shifts the responsibility entirely onto the customer, which is not reasonable. I expected far better in both product quality and customer service. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this brand.
