My wife and I happened upon Skelly's while looking for a place to have lunch. We were not sure what to expect, but once we entered we found a really nice surprise. The atmosphere is not contrived, but is a true rustic pub with a relaxed casual air. The staff is warm and welcoming and we were invited to choose any table we liked while our hostess brought over a board showing the day's selections. We both chose the carvery dinner, a combination of roast turkey and ham with dressing, mashed potato and gravy, and lovely steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots along with a wonderful potato that was roasted and then crisped on the outside. Everything was absolutely delicious: tender and juicy turkey and ham, perfect potatoes, and vegetables at just the perfect state of doneness. It was a feast unlike anything I have had since Christmas. While we ate the owner dropped by to check on us and ask about the meal. The hostess checked in twice as well and provided a box so that my wife could bring home the leftovers. Once the meal was over I attempted to pay the tab with a credit card, but the internet was down in that area. I walked across the street to used the ATM at the bank, and they were also out of order. When I returned to the restaurant the owner told me not to worry about the payment until the internet was back up. We tried to leave our card with him until things were back up again, but he insisted that we not worry about it. Wonderful food, lovely people, and a unique relaxed atmosphere. Simply the best. read more
