Like so many others, we were here during a cruise. Going to try keeping this short. Best activity and most fun we had on vacation. Period. My wife and I have California M1 licenses. We've owned street and track bikes for years, but somehow we've never ridden on scoots. It was so much fun! Sure, the facility as larger bikes available, but, are they as much fun as scooters?! Given the town, the time you have, and the sites to see, the scooters were the way to go. I'm a bigger boy, at 6'1" and 250lbs. It was not a problem. Also, they have shop dogs. If you don't stop by this place, you're making a mistake.

I rented a full sized Harley road bike for me and my grandson and it was spectacular. The scenery was stunning, the bike was well maintained and smooth as silk, the rental process was surprisingly painless, and, best of all, the guy I dealt with was kind and energetic and helpful. I even ran out of time and forgot to fill up the bike and he just took care of it to be nice. They don't advertise on the cruise ships to keep the price down so you can rent when you get there or call in advance and you'll most likely get er done. I'm so glad I stumbled into this place but, next time, I'll plan to go there. Way better than an excursion with a thousand people. Go do it! You won't regret it. Talk to Chase.

While the cruise ship excursions didn't look all that fun, we looked elsewhere and discovered Skagway Scooters. We had a blast! Super easy to find, quality scooters, fun staff and tour guides, fair prices, and was one of the best experiences in Skagway. We booked the guided tour, and our guide was laid back, gave us the freedom to drive around, great storyteller, and saw beautiful sites. Tip: Bring sunglasses no matter the weather you need to wear eye protection. Also, bring a small backpack and pack gloves and hat and rain coat just in case you get cold or it rains. The backpack gets stuffed under the scooter seat, and you can always add it remove layers to stay comfortable.

Alright, here's the deal. If you are in Skagway for 1 day and it's pretty outside, you'd be a complete fool to not go into this place and rent a scooter. They've got delicious lattes and coffee inside (I'm a snob about that stuff) and the staff is all cool and helpful in prepping you before you ride. They're also quick to come help you if you don't pay attention in the tutorial and find yourself stranded on the road because you hit buttons they told you not to :). I took a 7 day cruise stopping at Juneau, Skagway, sailed glacier bay, Ketchikan - and this was one of the most memorable experiences of my whole trip. Since I got home, I've honestly struggled to describe the natural beauty of Skagway. The crisp air, the wildlife, the beautiful lakes and rivers, etc. And as far as I'm concerned, this is the only way you will experience it. Check out my pictures if you're on the fence. Don't be the sucker who pays to get on a van tour, or guided trail tours, etc. Going to Alaska and getting in a van is like putting on snorkel gear only to sit on the sand.

HIGHLY recommend this tour if you're looking for some outdoor time, amazing views and a good time tooling around on a scooter. Tour was amazing. Chase was our guide and no one else happened to have book the time slot we did so it was basically a private 2 person tour! The scooters are super fun and easy to ride. They provide all the necessary gear (gloves, helmets, I think jackets if you need one too). Everything was beautiful, the stops were all unique places I don't believe the other tours can reach due to the trails we took being too narrow for cars or tour busses. The whole staff seems happy to be doing their job. They teach you how to use the scooters until you're comfortable and then off you go. Definitely the best excursion by far in Skagway!

This was a last minute excursion we booked when we got off the cruise and it was by far my FAVORITE part of our vacation. I was nervous to do the scooters at first, but the staff were incredibly helpful and let me practice in the back til I was comfortable. We had a blast on the tour with Chase as our guide and got amazing pictures! He went above and beyond and made everything so fun! If you are even considering booking this, DO IT - you won't regret it.

Our cruise stopped at Klondike and we had no idea what to do. The train-ride sounded nice but it was too long. Touring the city sounded fun but the city was more like a small town and we finished within 30 mins. Luckily we happened upon Skagway Scooters and Matt hooked us up! They give you a map of a trail around Klondike that has the most beautiful scenery you will ever see and you will literally be the envy of all other train, bus, and horse tours. No joke :)

My only regret was booking online. Call and ask for an all-day rate (which wasn't listed online but in-store). It would have costed like $20 more but it would have been worth it. read more

great place to rent scooters or motorcycles very helpful if ever back will definitely rent again
Loved it so much 2 yrs. ago, had to make sure I didi it again! I've often thought about returning to Skagway just to ride the scooters It was a highlight of my trip 2 years ago. I loved the sense of adventure it provided me and the opportunity to be in and a part of this beautiful country. The first time I walked by the store and made a quick decision. Being a first time rider, I was nervous but we rented the scooters after returning from our train ride. We had just enough time to get in an hour trip. Being the only one in my group to want to ride a scooter, I was alone this year, I opted for the guided scooter tour. We rode in a group of 7 plus the guide. Some were beginners but everyone did a great job of keeping up. (They gave us a great practice lesson before we started out). I found that when I let myself be in the back of the group, I could only go as fast as the slowest person. I fixed this by staying to the front and keeping up with the guide. This made it more enjoyable. Overall, riding in a tour was a mixed experience, mostly because I didn't get enough riding time in, especially for the cost of the activity. The people who work at the store are friendly and helpful. You'll need protective eyewear and if you don't have sunglasses, they'll loan them to you. They also have heavy jackets, raincoats, rain pants, and helmets (some with a face visor, some without). I don't know if they have gloves to loan out. I seem to recall that I borrowed some 2 yrs ago but am not sure. The Pros for a tour vs. on your own: I had the safety of the group. It was raining and I didn't think I should be out by myself. It gave me more confidence to be in a group with a guide. I let him be the judge of our speed. He made the decisions as to whee we would ride and I went to a few places I might not have gone. Our guide shared a little bit of history along the way. I think it'd be great if they had more to share because of the many stops we made. I'd love to learn more and use that time better. The Cons for a tour: It was not cost effective and my time of riding was not as much as I would have liked. The tour was 3 hours but not 3 of hours of riding. I would have had a lot more scooter time if I'd done it on my own. We stopped a lot. I wanted to ride! A big disappointment for me was something they have no control over. They are not allowed to lead a tour group into Dyea National Park, the area I loved so much and wanted to return to. I'll have to do this on my own again, perhaps on a bicycle because the allow bike tours in the park. With all of this said, I am glad I took a tour rather than travel alone in the rain. It was such fun and I hope one day to return again! read more

I have friends tell me great things about Skagway Scooter. Unfortunately they was no notice on the web site they were close on Sundays when we went to the shop to rent scooters for the four of us. I am not writing the review to complain that they were closed. I am writing this review that there is no information on the web site that they are closed on Sundays. This was a big deal as we had planned our day around renting scooters. We only had one day in Skagway. If we had known they were closed on Sunday we would have made other plans. Instead we just walked around town. From what I have heard from friends, I would recommend Skagway Scooters, just don't plan to use them on Sunday. read more

Where do I begin to express the disappointment. I took my family on a once in a lifetime cruise to Alaska. Everyone was so excited to go on this scooter adventure. We show up at Skagway to find out that not only does this activity not exist but it hasn't existed for years. I called the numbers Given by viator And it went straight to voicemail. Then I was on the phone with a Viator representative for an hour Who kept attending to call the operator of this drawer to no avail. The entire day was ruined! We spent the entire day either looking for this activity, or dealing with getting my money back... advice to others, verify before booking..do not take for granted that viator does... they DONT! read more

Customer service in the beginning was great. They were very genuine and booked us with 45 min to spear for the next ride. But a personal issue arose and we were unable to call ahead of time. Once i spoke to the manager he was very rude. He had no sympathy and begged to know what had happened, he got angry and hung up. We completely understand that we were in the wrong by not giving them a heads up about our issue. So i called again trying to apologize... we ended up in the store while the manager refunded us yet making a fool out of us by very loudly stating how amateur we were and that we are fools not to call and letting everyone in the store know how stupid we were to do what we did. I'm very upset with how he treated us and not knowing us or our circumstances. I would NOT RECOMMEND them because of the managers poor customer service. read more

We had an incredible time took of around the area on their scooters. We walked in without a reservation and it wasn't an issue. We explored on our own without a tour for 5 hours. Renting scooters was the best decision we made on our Alaskan vacation, and the whole process was made easy and fun because of Matt. My guy and I were on an Alaskan cruise this past week and we decided to explore on our own rather than book excursions through the cruise line. We are so glad we did that, mainly because we got to have this experience! We have been telling everyone about it since. You can rent the bikes for an hour or for a few (we used them for a little over two, and could easily have had enough to see if we had stayed out for closer to four). The map they give you is very clear and the suggested trail offers some beautiful views. It's a wonderful adventure, especially without needing to deal with a bus full of other people, waiting around, etc etc. Matt gave us a great tutorial before we left for our ride and he was very patient and friendly even though I have no experience riding any sort of bike-like motorized vehicle. Skagway is beautiful, so rent bikes from these guys and go explore! read more

Skagway scooters is one of the best things to do when u visit Skagway. John and Matt were super cool and very nice. After they showed us how to use the scooters, they said ok, see ya! I went with 3 others and we had a blast! Well worth the money. Be sure NOT to book an excursion from your cruise ship because you'll want to be on the scooters the whole time. (Scooters are not on the excursion list) Checking out not just the city but the outskirts as well. We went all the way to the flats and it was amazing!! Highly recommend! Thanks guys! read more

Scooter tour seems okay but definitely do not do the bus tour with them. I have two young kids so we bought the salesman's pitch of a kid friendly tour where they take a luxury bus into the Yukon wilderness overflowing with wildlife where animals come up to the bus. I bought it and the kids were asleep from boredom the whole ride to the dog sled camp and then asleep again the whole ride back. It was $150 per person and no adjustment for not having a luxury bus, no adjustment for false advertisement, only a lame, "I can't control what my salesmen are telling people." My recommendation for families with young kids is to look for outdoor things to do. There's an easy hike to Lower Dewey Lake, there's zip lining tours and rafting tours but they sell out fast. read more

What a great day we had with Jason and the scooters! He took us to the Chilkoot Trail and the Taiya River with great stops along the way for photos and history. He also took us to beautiful Lower Reid Falls and Yakutania Point. We were really surprised at how much he knew about the area since he has only been here a short time, but it's because he takes his job seriously and reads up on the history of the area in his spare time. The scooters were an absolute blast!!! We are in our 60's and felt perfectly comfortable and safe. I am so glad we spent our day this way instead of on the train! Angela Memphis read more

So I loved the scenery and riding the scooters, but unfortunately our tour guide was by far the worst guide I have ever had. He started the tour by saying "I know if you wanted facts about Skagway you would have went to the boring tours near here, so instead I will just tell you about dumb s**** I have done around this city" I tried to let him know we did actually want to know about the city and the history behind the gold rush. So I thought maybe I had given him enough of a hint to not tell personal stories but to tell stories about the amazing city of skagway. Well he didnt get the hint, we heard over SEVEN times about how the tour guide girls dressed up in old time clothes on the yellow buses hated him. Seriously we had to listen to story after story about how a different local company hated him and the shop he works for. If that wasnt bad enough we then had to hear a story about how his friend had quote "peed on the monument". As the tour went on we them ended up at one of the most gorgeous views I have seen ever and he proceeded to tell us a TWENTY MINUTE story about how he had gotten lost in the woods and could have been eaten by a bear but because he is so good at survival (how did you get lost in the first place then) that he was able to make it out alive and the whole city was so grateful to find him. Seriously I have never had such a poor experience with a tour guide. We heard no facts about skagway and I now know the life of Rob and how incredibly self centered he is. Moral of the story, rent the scooters and go on your own. All the sites are super easy to get to and it was cheaper. Highly reccomend the scooters and seeing the amazing views that skagway has to offer. read more

We did their 2-hour van tour up to White Pass Summit and loved it! Our guide, Mikey, gave us lots of great information, was super friendly, and went the extra mile for us. The scenery was amazing! We lucked out with the weather and had sunny, blue skies as a backdrop for the incredible views. The van was old so there were a few minor issues with it but we were comfortable and felt safe. Easily one of the top excursions of our cruise! The absolute BEST way to see Skagway! Took a three hour guided tour with Mike, and he knocked it out of the park. Informative, fun, an excellent photographer for our many stops along the way. You would be a damn fool not to book through Skagway Scooters if you're in town. The location is easy to find (about a fifteen minute walk from the docks) along the main road. Clearly marked, the check-in desk is behind a cool coffee shop/soda fountain. Come early and grab a drink or a bite to eat before your ride. Scooters provides all of the gear you'll need. As motorbike novices, we also required some extra time getting oriented with the bikes. Again, Mike was excellent about making sure we were comfortable operating the bikes before taking off. Once on the road we got an excellent tour of Skagway and then made our way to Dyea. I don't think any tour covers as much ground as we did with Scooters. Definitely the most bang for your buck! Can't recommend this tour enough. Thanks everyone at Skagway Scooters for an awesome experience! read more

This was one of our favorite excusions during our 12 day Alaskan cruise/land tour. I was very leery about doing the scooter tour since I am perhaps the klutziest person I know and have had past major mishaps on a regular bike but my son really seemed to want to go and it was one of our few rain free days. Well I'm so glad we did. The skooters were easier then I expected to operate and I don't think we could have experienced Skagway and all the beautiful areas surrounding it any other way. The staff was great and very helpful and our guide was wonderful. We disagree on what his name was so I can't give him a shout out. Give them a try you will not be disappointed. read more
So I booked scooters 2 weeks before, having had no experience at all. I had this idea that it would be easy for some reason. Let me explain: I have no balance and forgot how to ride a bike. Matt Soelberg was helping us out, and took my husband and myself out to try out the scooters. I failed miserably for about 10 minutes but Matt never gave up on me. He was so positive and kind, and I really felt like I could do it! End of the story: I didn't do it because none of us felt comfortable releasing me into the wild (FACT: I would have hurt myself or others). So we went back into the shop and Matt even refused to charge me. I couldn't believe it. For this kind of care and service, I would pay triple the price. They are seriously amazing and I wish there were more people and caring and thoughtful as Matt here at Skagway Scooters. Matt, coming from a teacher, students may not always learn right off the bat, but they never forget the teachers who refuse to give up on them. Thank you so much. read more

My wife and I along with two friends just got back from an Alaskan cruise and this was our favorite part. Matt was super friendly and laid back. Prices were very reasonable and he didn't start the hourly rate until AFTER we were done training and all felt comfortable. They also provide everything you need at no extra cost (helmet, eye protection, gloves, jacket if you need them). They also have a map mounted on the handle bars but you won't need to use it much since there's mainly one road you'll go on with minimal traffic. The scooters themselves were a smooth ride and had fat tires which were perfect for the terrain. Tons of fun just to ride them but adding the incredible scenery makes this something we'll never forget. It makes you feel like you're really experiencing back-country Alaska and not just the tourist part. Overall, it took us exactly 2 hours to see everything and get back to town. You won't be able to find a more fun and affordable time in Skagway. read more

My long over due review! We had our alaskan cruise back in June. Out of all the excursions we did.... this one is our favorite. Though it was rainy and a bit chilly we were able to ride the scooter with no problem .. it was our first time riding the scooter but we did pretty good according to our tour guide! Btw- Chase was such a cool dude. It was pouring rain but we still manage to go around town, he was even showing us the perfect spot tl take pictures... we definitely enjoyed our tour despite the rain. The most amazing hour in Skagway! These guys were great! Very helpful, showed and explained everything we needed to know. We chose this excursion on our own apart from what the cruise was offering, and we are SO GLAD that we did! We had the BEST time just cruising around on Edith and Hazel! I love that they name the scooters after moms and grandmas!! We rode, and rode and rode... no bus full of grumpy people, nobody pushing us out of the way,.. just the freedom to ride where we chose! What a way to see the beautiful sights of Alaska! The shop was welcoming, the staff was great! If you don't do anything else in Skagway, take the time to drop in and say hi to these guys! My wife had been yearning to try scooter riding and when the opportunity arose in Skagway we chose to give Skagway Scooters a try based on previous Yelp reviews. I am happy to report this was by far the best shore experience of our vacation. My wife and I were joined by four family members and none of them had any motorized riding experience, my wife included, whatsoever. Our guides/instructors for the day were Chris and Mike. Chris started off the day by evaluating everyone's riding ability and providing additional training as needed. This probably doesn't take very long but since my wife and her sister had trouble picking up the skill, Chris spent extra time with them. Ultimately, my sister in law felt she could not do the trip and, although Chris was willing to spend more time with her, she chose to head back to the ship. Chris saw to it that we received a full refund for my sister in law, even after spending so much time with her, and the shop gave her a ride back to the ship on the back of a Harley. That's a class act. Chris and Mike subsequently led us on the most extensive tour we had during our entire trip. Though Skagway is a small town, there is a lot of history and beauty here if you know where to look. As locals, Chris and Mike knew where the hidden gems were and we spent a fantastic time riding as we sought them out. At the end of our trip we were both extremely tired and happy. A true sign of a great ride. read more

Chris at Skagway Scooters convinced us to rent some Honda Ruckus after we got back from our sightseeing tour through Skagway Day Trips and I'm really happy we decided to go! I was a little nervous because I had never ridden a scooter before but Matt took our group out and was really helpful and VERY patient with me being a newbie. By the end of the little class I felt totally confident! We had an amazing ride out to Dyea and I was able to get some BEAUTIFUL photos! It's a gorgeous area! I am so happy we decided to go scootering! Thanks for the great recommendation Chris! We will definitely be suggesting this to our friends! read more

My wife and I were on a cruise with the family. The women wanted to do some shopping in Skagway so my father-in-law and I noticed these scooter rentals. We went in originally for coffee and donuts, but after watching some video and talking with the guys running the place, we decided to rent a couple of scooters. Super friendly people, nice scooters, and creating our own excursion. We rented them for two hours, took at trip over to Dyea up the road. Spotted some eagles, enjoyed the views, and the cool crisp Alaskan air on our faces. We had a long day in Skagway so this was a no brainer while the ladies did their shopping. read more

I just recently just got home from a 2 week vacation in Alaska & Skagway scooters is probably my favorite part. The staff at Skagway scooters were so helpful and really wanted to make sure our trip was memorable. They made sure my family, mostly me, felt comfortable on the scooter before we left. I hughly recommend anyone visiting Skagway to visit and rent a scooter. There is no better way to see this beautiful town! read more

Amazing day! Jason was a wonderful guide. Couldn't has asked for a better ride. Jason was informative and funny..We had a group of 8 with one rider who was relatively short. He had the chance seat changed to a lower seat so she could ride and helped her get comfortable before we hit the road. The only con I have is to have a better practice area to get comfortable with the scooters. read more

What a blast! If you do nothing else in Skagway, you must do this! We were just going to rent the scooters and tool around. However, we decided to take the tour. Our guide was excellent. He was easy going and laid back. We went out to Dyea. We even saw two bears. This was my favorite part of the trip! I will definitely do this again! THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME EXPERIENCE. read more
