The tour guide is the theater owner Valerie Stafford, and the tour starts in the theatre and then goes around the town. It's only a few blocks and the tour goes goes slow, so it's definitely walkable for most people. I won't say more about the tour because I don't want to spoil the surprise, but it's fantastically done. My friend who went with me (a historian and ghost hunter who has been on several ghost tours in places like Savannah and New Orleans) said is one of the best she's ever been on. There's something nostalgic about Anacortes Cinemas compared to what I'm use to. No assigned seating, concessions in the front with a classic theater vibe. Was the experience flawless? No (lines for prepaid tickets, concessions, and new tickets was the same line - at least when we went which made it feel understaffed) but the experience overall was a good one. We saw Moana 2 and while this isn't a review space for the movie itself, it did help that the movie was good. Well located with some local shopping in walking distance I would definitely recommend stopping by when visiting Anacortes.

A must-visit while you're in Anacortes during the summer season. The cornerstone of the museum is…read morethe W T Preston steam-powered sternwheel snag barge. This Preston operated in the Puget Sound for decades removing snags, logs and hazards from the navigable waterways. The boat is well-preserved, with all of the gauges, controls, boilers and other equipment in place. The curators have binders full of pictures of the crew and operations over the years. You enter the boat in the engine room, are greeted by a curator, then turned loose to explore the rest of the vessel on your own. The first deck is machinery space, the second deck is crew accommodations and the third deck is the galley, wheelhouse and officer's quarters. $5 entry fee. I recommend setting aside about an hour to explore the boat and take it all in.

I love all things history and this little museum did not disappoint…read more Having lived in the Seattle area my entire life, I don't know (or remember) too much about WA state history so this was really interesting. With free admission for the month of May, we gave a donation upon entry and started with the 30 minute video about what we would be seeing throughout. Without the video, I would have been clueless as to what we were seeing and who we read about. Make sure you go downstairs to view the Native American artifacts of the area.

Size-wise it probably rivals the big Ski-to-Sea Festival in Fairhaven, and I found the vendors to be much more local and much more varied, which was nice. It sits literally right on the Anacortes waterfront, with breathtaking views over the marina toward snow-capped Mt. Baker. This was a postcard-worthy place to hang out on a sunny June day! There was a heavy emphasis on locally-produced crafts, art, and food and less of the "commercial" type booths which seem to be mounting a takeover at other festivals. There was also a HUGE Corvette show going on right next to the festival, which gave the hubby something to do while I surfed the jewelry and housewares booths. We also enjoyed the beer garden, hosted by local Anacortes Brewery - they had 5 different varieties of beer on tap, plus several wines. Next door was a robotics demonstration put on by local students, which was super fun to watch! While we pretty much attended this festival by happenstance, I would definitely add this to my "first weekend in June" calendar in future years. Note: get there early to sign up for the free boat rides offered by the local yacht club!

Located in an old auto repair building, Sedro-Woolley Museum is huge and covers so many aspects of the town's history. The museum also has a small research room available by appointment and a gift shop. Well worth a visit!
