WORST MOTHER'S DAY EVER!!!
I'm absolutely appalled by the disrespectful and unprofessional service my mum and her friends had to endure on Sunday. They went out to treat themselves for a ladies' lunch but were treated like trash by the staff at Sizzler on the Gold Coast. Of all the days, mothers should be treated with extra care and respect on "MOTHER'S DAY". So much for Sizzler's extensive Mother's Day promotion. It seems like they were just trying hard to fill the seats and didn't even care about 'showing how special they are' and helping them 'enjoy' a 'relaxing' outing.
Where do I start. After repeated requests and waiting for another 15 minutes, my mum and her friends finally got served their cheese toasts but the waiter must've been feeling peckish because there was one with a bite taken out of it. He/she TOOK A BITE OUT OF THE CHEESE TOAST then served it to the diners!!!! WHAT THE!!!!? Understandably disgusted by this, they kindly and patiently requested a new plate of cheese toasts but the waiter returned and "threw", yes threw the plate on the table and walked away. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!!!
Also, after showing them to their seats, the waiter told my mum and her friends to go get their own plates and cutlery. I mean, it's no big deal, sure they can walk over and help themselves, but that's probably not how he/she was trained. Seriously, does Sizzler GC hire any person off the street and put a uniform on them before any formal training? No wonder it's losing profit and doomed to close down within two years. If you're not getting the diners their plates or their cheese toasts, what ARE you doing? If none of the other diners were treated this way, then this is going into racist territory.
Also, if you're putting so much effort into advertising about your Mother's Day special, shouldn't sufficient food stock be at the top of your priority list? My mum's vegetarian but she can still eat more than half the food on the salad bar so it's shocking to know that she basically ate a month's worth of olives because the salad bar was not being refilled promptly!
Maybe since announcing the closure of all its restaurants Sizzler employees think it's okay to loosen up and just kill time at work. They're still representing the brand and are the first point of contact for diners so if Sizzler doesn't want to go out with a puff and be recorded in history for poor food, bad service and underqualified staff, it should seriously keep a check on each of its restaurants, or better yet, dine at one of them and see if they feel like they're 'enjoying' a 'relaxing' outing.
If I was there I would've demanded a full refund because I would not be willing to pay over $20 for horrible service and no food. Fortunately, the manager understood this was unacceptable behaviour and offered 50% off the bill. I would've also given a list of waiters' names to the manager and demanded they be either properly trained before being put on the floor or, for all I care, fired on the spot.
As a diner who grew up eating out at Sizzler for almost every childhood birthday and big group occasions, each time feeling excited about the bountiful buffet experience and the free cheese toasts, I'm extremely disappointed that its reputation has fallen below the pits. While it was once known for its friendly and attentive service it seems that the only service you now get is bad attitude. Why have the waiters around at all when they're telling the diners to go serve themselves? I don't think Sizzler can really afford to lose customers during its dying last days but after Sunday's 'experience', you've now lost another 12 customers.
Pretty sure my mum and her friends didn't even get any minties after their meal! I have nothing more to say. I'm definitely not going to dine at Sizzler anymore and if GC's example is anything to go by, I'm not at all sad to see Sizzler shut down and give it's space to a better restaurant. read more
