An avid runner until I was 50, two hip surgeries necessitated that I change my routine to walking and pool running. For close to 29 years, this worked for me. Approaching 80 has brought about new challenges. Recently I had to go to the foot doctor who took X-rays and told me that I have severe arthritis in my left foot. This explained much about some of the difficulties I have been having with my walking regimen. He explained that more than ever I need to be very careful with my walking shoes and explained the type of support my aging feet would need to get me another 10 years of walking the river. When I went into Marathon Sports, I felt truly welcomed and was lucky to have Nina as my sales person. She is just one of the kindest most patient sales people was ever my good fortune to meet. Yelp Review 2026 #209:…read more I waited at the very last minute to buy my team's jersey for the World Cup. I went to Nike in Las Vegas before coming to Boston and they didn't have any. This Nike store in Boston is along a shopping street. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes along the way. I went in and combed the store for a jersey but the smallest size they had was XL which is basically a dress on me. But desperate times... The line to pay was super long and there was only one cashier! It wasn't until the line started to block a portion of the store did a second register opened up. If you know your city is hosting a major sporting event, you should be well-staffed! Which they were but some of them weren't really doing anything, not helping customers.

All was not lost as Sylvia was helping us and offered several different options for my mom to try. She was super helpful, even helping my mom get the shoes on and lacing them up. I can't remember the last time I've seen that level of assistance in a shoe store. She was absolutely fantastic with my mom, answering questions and even showing her a special way of lacing her sneakers to help prevent heel slippage. My mom ended up getting two pairs of shoes that she said were so comfortable, and raved about Sylvia to the woman at the register. I took a star off as I'm a size 11ish and can rarely find shoes that fit me-most shoes only had sizes up to 10 available, but I'm so glad my mom had such a great experience today.
