Scammers! Fraudulent claim. You can see the employee in the background. I took pictures and they are still trying.

Be careful!! When we picked up our car it had recently been in a wreck. They had no other vans available so we forced to use it. We pointed out all the damage to the Sixt rep who was checking us out. He said that it wasn't showing up in his system. He spent the next 30 minutes taking pictures and uploading them into their database. Sixt is now trying to charge us for the prior damage. I even have photo's of the Sixt rep pointing out the damaged rim and bumper hanging off. They still are trying to fight me on it. Buyer beware.. If you absolutely have to rent from them get plenty of photos and video with their employee in the picture. Not only should they have not rented a wrecked vehicle they submitted a fraudulent claim on preexisting damage. BTW... The insurance we purchased didn't cover it.

First off, I was given a damaged car that I could not use and had to go back to the counter and request another vehicle after an international flight from the United States. Take pictures of the vehicle!! they will charge you without a doubt for damage they charged previous renters for! Second, and here is the meat of the extended issue, we turned in the car very early the representative said we were good leave the keys in the front seat cool right?? Nope 3 hours later while were at the gate I get an email about damage $510 worth, that we are responsible for. I am like yeah right! I got pictures to prove it was not us... It took about three weeks to get it resolved so I thought. In October I get a letter in German stating that damage is more than expected and we want more money!! Hold the phone you already said I am good! I dont care that the damage is more than you thought!! I didnt do it!! They charge my card an additional $760 right before Christmas. I am an hourly worker and my money is budgeted, I cant afford damage I have already been cleared of. I come to find out this is a scam by rental agencies in foreign countries by rental agencies taking advantage of tourists and business travelers. Not only do I want my money back I want fraud investigations to be conducted! This is poor business practice and company negligence for not reeling in this activity!

However, everything went very smoothly from checkout to drop off. No issues what so ever and my credit card was charged appropriately without any errors. We reserved online, filled up our own gas, and didn't take any additional coverage, so the price was reasonable. We drove from Munich to Fussen and had the car for 3 days... only used half a tank. I only stalled out a couple times too which is great. Do your due diligence and you'll be fine. Driving along the countryside in Germany will forever be one of my favorite memories.

I rented a vehicle in Munich, selected cross-border authorization, and independently purchased a valid Austrian digital vignette before entering Austria. The vignette confirmation shows activation on 24.01.2026 at 14:22. The alleged toll event cited by SIXT occurred on 25.01.2026 at 13:44 -- clearly within the active validity period. Despite complying with the regulations and providing timestamped proof showing the vehicle was covered, SIXT charged me €200 for a substitute toll weeks later. When I submitted the documentation, their written response was that they "do not check whether the fine is legit or not and act according to the information provided by the relevant authority." Let that sink in: you can follow the rules, pay for the required toll coverage, provide clear documentation -- and the company will not even evaluate whether the charge is legitimate before passing it through to you. As a foreign traveler in a regulatory system you're not native to, you reasonably expect the rental company -- as the registered owner of the vehicle -- to review documentation and assist when something appears incorrect. Instead, the burden was pushed entirely back onto me. If you're renting for tourism and crossing borders, be aware: post-rental penalties may be processed automatically, and documentation may not be meaningfully reviewed. Based on this experience, I would not recommend SIXT for cross-border travel in Europe. Transparency matters. Compliance should matter. Customer advocacy should matter.
