DO NOT USE Sixt IN SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO. My husband and I traveled to Puerto Rico from 4/30-5/6 to celebrate two deeply meaningful family milestones: our son's 30th birthday and our elderly aunt's 77th birthday. Our son lives with Cerebral Palsy, so having dependable and accessible transportation was not a luxury -- it was a necessity. From the very beginning, our experience with Sixt was stressful, expensive, and ultimately financially damaging. After arriving in San Juan, we waited an excessive amount of time for the airport shuttle to pick us up. Once we finally arrived at the rental office, we immediately realized the SUV we originally reserved was far too small to accommodate a folding wheelchair and seven pieces of luggage. We had no choice but to upgrade to a minivan, which nearly doubled the rental cost. After arriving at our destination, we parked the vehicle for the evening. Two days later, we discovered the van had a flat tire. We immediately contacted Sixt multiple times requesting assistance and received virtually no meaningful response. The van sat unusable for TWO FULL DAYS while our family vacation and birthday celebrations were disrupted. It was only after I asked my Spanish-speaking cousin to call on our behalf that Sixt suddenly responded quickly. They eventually picked up the damaged van and replaced it with another minivan, which we only had for the final two days of our trip. On 5/6, we returned the replacement van. Earlier that day, my husband had simply picked me up from the beach. Aside from a small amount of sand in the front seat -- which I personally cleaned before returning the vehicle -- the van was returned in the same condition in which it was provided to us. What happened next is why I am writing this review. After returning home, we discovered that Sixt charged my husband's checking account an additional $500 hold PLUS another $600 for alleged "damages" they have STILL not specifically identified. To date, no clear documentation, inspection report, or explanation has been provided. When my husband expressed concern and asked questions, the company asked HIM to provide proof that the vehicle was not damaged -- a process that felt deeply unfair and backwards. Normally, rental companies complete a formal inspection with the customer present and provide documentation upon return. That did NOT happen in our case. After reading additional online reviews, I am alarmed by how many customers describe similar experiences involving excessive charges, accusations regarding cleanliness or smoke odors, and unexplained fees. In our situation, accusations of smoke or odor would be completely false. The vehicle was primarily occupied by our disabled adult son, our elderly aunt, and family members who are strictly anti-smoking. PLEASE protect yourself if you choose to rent from this company: * TAKE detailed photos and videos of the vehicle before AND after rental. * REQUEST written inspection paperwork upon pick up and return. * DO NOT use a debit/checking account card (they will charge whatever amount to that same card they use to hold the $500) for any accidentals or what the arbitrarily found wrong with the car) * USE a credit card like American Express, Visa, etc instead. We later learned that using a debit card resulted in a $500 hold, whereas if you use a credit card only required $200 deposit oppose to $500 if you use DEBIT card. The result for us has been over $1,100 frozen and/or charged from my husband's checking account, creating an unexpected and significant financial hardship we are still trying to resolve. As we wait for this amount to be lifted, they would only give us back a portion, and had to use another credit card to pay for what they considered fee of $400 for "damages or smell of smoke" In addition, they did not give us any credit or consideration for time the van was inoperable. I have been traveling to Puerto Rico for over 50 years and have rented countless vehicles over the decades. NEVER have I experienced anything this distressing, unprofessional, or financially predatory. Puerto Rico itself was beautiful, and our family still created meaningful memories despite the unnecessary stress. But our experience with Sixt left us frustrated, overwhelmed, and struggling to recover financially from what should have been a joyful family celebration. read more

RUN! DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS SHADY, CROOKED PLACE!!!!!!!! I would need days to write all of the details of my horrible experience at this company in San Juan. They are super shady, disorganized, and rude. I rented a convertible online. The picture of the car was that of a convertible. Our entire vacation was planned around making sure we had a convertible for our week of touring and driving around PR. When we got to pick up our reservation that we had paid for online, through their website, they told us that we booked a "luxury car" and that it could be a convertible "or similar car". When we arrived we saw a convertible. They would only give us a "luxury car" that was not a convertible, as they said their convertible was rented in a day or two to someone else. I explained that the entire reason we picked their company was for a convertible. I explained another "luxury car" was NOT the same or similar if it's top did not go down. The "Supervisor" was extremely rude. She could care less of our disappointment and inconvenience of renting a convertible as the entire focal point of our vacation. She then offered us a old, dented, scratched up Mercedes that doesn't even have a sunroof. The car smells inside. We spent more than three hour of our vacation at their shady rental place and are scared to go back when we return the car. There is so much more I've left out of our awful experience with this company in PR. They tried to insists that I had to pay for insurance and roadside assistance, which I explained I declined online when booking. I have rented cars hundreds of times and have never been "mandated" to pay for their insurance. The "Supervisor" had a fit when I argued that I DO NOT have to buy their insurance. She then said she would "cancel" our reservation and we could go some place else, as if this was some favor for us. I explained that we had Ubered there and spent money on that to get our convertible and that we needed to leave with a car because we had by this point spent three hours of our first day of vacation on the rental car. We finally left paying and arm and a leg for a POS, older Mercedes so that we could get on with our vacation and get out of their shady neighborhood, away from the rude employees. I have no idea the hoops and stuff we will deal with when we return. Sigh. We tried to point out the sizes of dents and scratches on the car and it's scary that they have a $500 deposit as they likely blame people for other people's dents as part of their scandalous operation. I will never, ever rent a car from this company again. Like I mentioned, I've rented hundreds of rental cars in my lifetime and it has never gone even remotely like this. That this is a national chain is worrisome, they should really think about who they franchise with and not partner with shady people like the ones here in Puerto Rico. read more

I recently had the unfortunate experience of renting a car from this company, Sixt in Isla Verde, Carolina in Puerto Rico, and I must say, it was a nightmare from the start. From the moment I arrived to pick up the car, I encountered an employee named Rodolfo who made my rental experience one to remember, but for all the wrong reasons. To begin with, I had entrusted my mother with handling the reservation because I was swamped with other commitments. She even had taken care of paying for the car insurance with Hotwire. When she tried to inform Rodolfo of the difference in the rental cost that we had initially booked online versus the exorbitant amount that Rodolfo charge me. (The original online reservation was priced at a reasonable $418.03 for a week. However, with Rodolfo's insistence on adding additional insurance coverage that I neither needed nor wanted, the total amount suddenly skyrocketed to an outrageous $1,101.77.) It is clear that Rodolfo's primary objective was to maximize profits at the expense of providing a fair and transparent rental experience. Rather than treating my mother with respect and addressing her concerns, Rodolfo chose to belittle and dismiss her. He said that I am the renter and he only can speak to me. She could only relay information to me, even if it was a simple matter of providing the name of my car insurance back in the United States or showing him the email confirming the insurance payment. This lack of professionalism, lack of empathy and respect, and creating an uncomfortable and hostile environment was completely uncalled for. Needless to say, this experience has left an indelible mark, and I will never consider renting from this company again. The unprofessional behavior displayed by Rodolfo, who claims to be a supervisor, is unacceptable and tarnishes the reputation of the entire establishment. I hope that this review serves as a cautionary tale for others seeking rental car services in Sixt in Isla Verde, Carolina PR. Sixt Rent a Car San Juan Airport (Puerto Rico), Calle Dalia, Calle Begonia, Carolina, 00979, Puerto Rico **DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY -- IT IS A SCAM!** I am compelled to share my unfortunate experience with this rental car service in hopes of preventing others from encountering the same issues. I paid in full for my car rental, including insurance, to ensure a smooth vacation for my husband, daughter, and myself. Upon our arrival in San Juan, we went to the designated shuttle area to pick up our vehicle, only to be informed that my reservation had been canceled without notice and that there would be no transportation to the rental location. Despite my attempts to seek assistance from the shuttle driver, who was employed by the company, he advised me that I would be charged additional fees. He explained, "They will tell you they can accommodate you for more money." This information proved accurate, as the manager on call demanded an extra $20 per day due to a simple error in my reservation--specifically, entering AM instead of PM. The driver was instructed not to take me to the facility unless I accepted this unjust fee. When I expressed my intention to call the reservation line for clarification, the manager abruptly disconnected my call and left me stranded at the airport, without a vehicle or any means to resolve the matter in person. To add insult to injury, they refused to issue a refund for my initial payment. Ultimately, I was forced to seek a rental from another company that same night, under duress. The staff at the alternative rental agency were also unhelpful, compounding my frustration. This experience strongly suggests a pattern of deceptive practices perpetrated by this company. I urge potential customers to consider my warning and seek rental services elsewhere. No planning flight only needs to travel to help with the loss of a family member. I was so tired after a long flight, I arrived at the airport but I find myself with many problems with the car rental I choose, I don't want to talk about them I just want to say about this Sixt company and the person who helped me to transport me from the airport until the final process at check out. Very nice people starting with Edgard (father) who saw me at the airport and was very helpful after I canceled the rental of the other car that he wanted to take more money from me, this person saw me at the airport and told me not to worry, that He would help me, so he did. Luis the employee who makes my check-in fast and easy, very helpful and professional, then at my Check-out, Eileen D. Betancourt helped me choose to save some money, she was very kind and professional, she was also very helpful and warm and friendly. God bless you all for making my trip easier and not complicating my stay more than it already was due to my family situation. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE CON ARTISTS. My inlaws arrived today to be met by a customer service rep called Gabriela who treated them badly, refused to allow them to use their International Insurance Policy (which no other rental has ever given them problems with), and then she had the audacity to claim they were treating her badly. She then refused to give them a car rental at all... however the reservation cannot be cancelled by them. The customer has to send an email to their stupid customer service department (oh, and dont bother trying to deal with them as they simply dont want to help you as well... and thats if you can reach them). I am reporting this company to DACO for the flagrant disregard they have for their customer (or potential customers). If you want to have your time and money wasted by a group of con artists, this is the company to go with. If you have an ounce of sense, you will avoid them like the plague. Oversold. Overbooked. Over an hour to wait before could assist. Staff was asking customers to go to dinner and come back. No program in place at this location. Staff over stressed and overwhelmed. They couldn't assist with cancelation due to their error and instructed us to "call corporate!" In a car at hertz in San Juan airport within 20 mins of leaving. Second time I've had a bad experience at this location. Sixt should close this location as service like this never makes me want to use your brand. I was loyal to sixt. Staff members said to me "don't hate the player, hate the game!" Customer service is dead in this location and management/owners should be ashamed. Embarrassing business you are running. read more

I have one of the best experiences with this amazing staff in Puerto Rico during my stay. I was in need of change my vehicle and they do without any assistance issue the process was fast and easy location manager I think her name is Zuri she's amazing answering all the question, concerns and keeping their work place in order and giving each costumer individually a personalized service. can't complain at all from start to end all the staff in Calle Dalia Carolina easy takes 30 of 10 including Wilmer the shuttle driver. My experience with Sixt was not what I anticipated. After booking the rental car online, I assumed everything was in order. However, during checkout, I was compelled to purchase liability insurance, despite explaining that my credit card already covered it. The representative insisted that he couldn't proceed with the rental without the additional insurance. This was unusual, as I've traveled frequently and never encountered such an issue before. I was skeptical about renting with Sixt after reading all the reviews, but fortunately for us, we had no problems. After our flight landed we went to the pick-up location, we called to let them know we were there, got picked up and taken to their location about a 5-minute drive, went inside their office to finalize details and we were off to start our vacation. And the same went for returning our car. We picked up our car around 9 am, not sure if the timing helped us avoid any delays. read more

We had trouble with the first SUV and we call and they delivered another one within an hour to us. Daniel was a miracle worker putting our suitcases in the car. My fiancé and I rented a car from here for my birthday trip and we had an awesome experience. We landed later than expected but we called Sixt for the pick up car and they showed up within 15 minutes. Rudy helped get us a car quickly and was informative about everything we needed to know in Puerto Rico. We did not experience any issues. Not sure if management or process has changed recently, but my experience last week was great and quick. Car was waiting for me when I got there and checking back in was quick too. Just ask for the full breakdown of available options and make sure you have your valid insurance card handy to show them when you get in to waive the MLI fee. Great customer service due to a delay in my flight. Was upgraded free of charge since my car was not available due to I arrived late. People write bad things about this company but don't take the time in writing the good things. I was not afraid of trying out this company and do not regret it. Keep up the good work.
