The food was phenomenal and the service was exceptional. All 5 of us at our table could not say enough good things about our meals. Yum!

Mostly for reasons of nostalgia, this is my favorite pub in the world…read more I lived down the street in Headington for a semester, and often found myself at the White Horse. A few friends and I had been trying to visit as many pubs in Oxford as possible, but this one kept drawing us back. It wasn't in the City Centre, therefore it wasn't teeming with tourists, which was nice. They had a good drinks selection, including the ingredients for a concoction my friend John invented - the Beige Russian. One shot Corky's white chocolate vodka + Coke = yum. The atmosphere was always relaxed, unless it was a quiz night, but the White Horse quiz is the best I've experienced yet. Even during the day, the pub is great. You can't beat their Yorkshire wrap (roast beef in a wrap made of Yorkshire pudding) and a pint of Strongbow for lunch. The White Horse is a must-stop destination whenever I'm in the UK.

The food was delivered within minutes, suspiciously fast, as if the meals were prepackaged airline trays to be heated up. Cutlery was forgotten and even sauces from one meal had to be pointed out on the menu to have them delivered as they should have been. As it happened, heating up was an issue along with fibrous smash for a child's menu and a stick of slightly pink chicken, let me tell you, it was never a happy chicken in life or in death. A third way into the challenge if eating such tripe a member if our group complained and a refund was offered by the waiter. Perhaps this teen was above his station as the manager offered half price, free deserts or a bottle of wine with a menacing aura. Do not be fooled by the pleasant exterior, this chain pub really does show you how bad food can be. AVOID.

I first came with my husband and sister-in-law years ago when I was expecting, enjoying the ginger beer, the ample space, and not much else. I had it on my list when visiting again, but never made it inside. Finally, this trip, I got several pints, a couple of pizzas, and a burger, too. Order at the bar (note that there are £5 burgers on Mondays! and monthly specials for the burgers and pizzas), and pick your spot. I enjoy the little huts in the back garden, past the creepy cupboard (which is handy for threatening misbehaving children), but with so much space in the main room and the lovely outdoor tables, practically every seat is a good one. The burger was quite good for the price. The portion on the sweet potato chips was quite generous, and they were lovely and crisp. I enjoyed the pizzas - L'Ala Falco with sausage, onion, fior de latte, the June special with chorizo and corn, the margherita, and the kids cheese - nice crust with just the right amount of char and chew. Looking forward to more visits and pints in the future! 2019 Reviews #24

It's run by a couple of young men and they bring a true dedication to this business. Fabulous range and quality of beers and excellent, simple food. In times when other pubs struggle and go out of business this place is thriving and deservedly so. There are a number of these types of pubs that have appeared in Oxford These places have a good clientel who enjoy the atmosphere and the banter. It's like the re-invention of the pub with all the bad old thuggish bits taken out and the wonderful traditional bits kept in. This will be the saviour of the British pub which is otherwise under siege on all sides.

Set in a very nice little place in Headington Quarry, opposite the church where C.S. Lewis is buried, but still ideally located for anyone living in Headington. It is also very well situated for any visitors, with it being straight down Gladstone Road where the major buses drop-off. The place itself is small, but the layout is great and there is a huge garden with nice decking. There is also a separate function room, which hosts the biannual Headington Beer Festivals, organised by the operators of the pub. The pub boasts a fantastic selection of real ales, with Bitter & Twisted usually on offer along with 5/6 others. The pub is also home to The Old Bog Brewery, and you can buy their beer to take away in mini-kegs etc. It is really nice. The owners are really great and the staff are always extremely polite, friendly and welcoming. There are several clubs and societies which frequent the pub during the week, playing obscure card and table games, which is always a curiosity, and there is also some kind of billiard table which is unfamiliar to me. It shows sky football, but I tend to avoid pubs when this is on. Overall, if you visit here, then you will not be disappointed. If you live in the area then you really should check it out. It doesn't open until 7pm on a monday.

Oxford, UK is a college (and tourist) town. Quality/Quantity - Beer was good, and more importantly one of the few breweries within walking distance to the many college campuses here. See pictures of the menu for both the brewery and guest beers. Kitchen was closed when I got here, but that was ok as I just wanted/needed a beer. Atmosphere - Events - See pictures. Small pub, brewery. Two floors. I think the upstairs is bigger? I never went up, sorry. Indoor/outdoor seating. I started indoors so I could be near the bar, LOL. Then I decided to have my next beer outside and people watched. Another beautiful day (see picture)! I preferred the outside seating over inside. Service - Good. Not sure if it is just me, but I noticed a lot of men sitting at the bar waiting for their wives to come back from shopping. And I was one of them, LOL. Price - I can't remember? But I think less than 5 pounds a beer/pint? It just does not matter sometimes. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success. Cool spot, I am surprised that there are not more breweries in a college town. I am sure there are many pubs, but you guys need more breweries!
