The Bank of Carbondale

The Bank of Carbondale

Not a fan. I never understood the slogan of Alpine Bank, "A bank you can actually like," until I…read morewas a member of Bank of Carbondale. It never occurred to me that I wouldn't like my bank, until I was a member of Bank of Carbondale. There was a limit on how much I could remove from my debit card that caused me several problems. I asked to remove it numerous times and they refused. Finally, one person did remove it and said that it could have been removed all along, but there was no reason for me to be upset because it would be removed going forward. I had also signed up for a student account (which offers free checking) and was given a different type which of course wasn't free. I was told this was an accident. I didn't catch it for about 2 months and wasn't reimbursed because I didn't notify them of the problem fast enough. That was just the tip of the iceberg, really. Long story short, bad bank, rude employees, don't do it. I will admit, I banked here a lot longer than I should have. I was only living in the town for about 2 years and had automatic withdrawal for a few different accounts and was too busy to look into another bank. That was my fault.

After being a costumer of this bank for several years and paying THEM a monthly service fee so they…read morecan use my money to lend to others to make more money for THEM, they charged me $60 for a single insufficient fund. This was the first time I was ever insufficient, and I live a few hours away from my nearest branch, so the day I reachieved notice I literally immediately mailed a check to them. But this meant nothing to them, and as most recent graduates know, $60 for nothing can mean a lot. Needless to say I'm closing my account with them TODAY!... something I should have done a long time ago. Carbondale has many banking institutions and i advise everyone, especially students, to BANK ELSEWHERE!

I walked into this bank today around 130 PM, all ready to open a checking account and start my…read morejourney to financial wellness. The staff was friendly--great start! I told them I wanted to open a checking account, and the sweet staff helping me made a call. A few minutes later, she told me what I can only assume was a mission impossible-style directive: "You can see our banker, but your backpack stays in the lobby." Now, I'm not saying my backpack is my emotional support or therapy ball, but it does contain my cash and documents, aka the entire reason I was there. When I pointed this out, I was met with, "Just take everything out and carry it separately to the banker lady and leave the bag in the lobby." Ah yes, because juggling a stack of papers, my IDs, ten immigration documents and a wad of cash like a magician pulling ribbons from a hat sounds like a secure banking experience. I am totally fine with the rules of no backpacks in bank but its a protocol I have never heard of. May be put a notice board or something. PSA If you want to open an account here don't take any bags instead carry all the cash and documents safely in your hands or keep it bundled up in your back pockets. Or take your spouse or girl friend or your neighbor who will take care of your belongings while you bank. This is the branch right next to DMV. If you want backpacks out, state it correctly and clearly at the entrance. This is not how you represent community bank. So I did the only logical thing: I took my money and walked right out--backpack and all. If this is how they treat someone trying to GIVE them money, I can only imagine what it's like trying to get money out. No thanks! Then I walked into a nearby bank next to Walgreens on West main. Same thing, stated my business need and after some paperwork the job was done Fern Martin was a delight to do business with. Disclosure: I used to be a journalist. And I was motivated to write after a long time. Of course, I posted it on every review site possible.

Friendly, helpful and doesn't make you feel they are doing you a favor by having your…read morebusiness...unlike the bank across the street.
