I live right around the corner in McKinley Heights and always drive/walk by this place, but it sometimes looks a little mayhem. What do I do when places look mayhem? I buy online. I started following them and one day while sitting on my plane wi-fi, I noticed the blurry shots of a gawgeous milk glass shelf, walnut sideboard and hutch. In my horrible connection, I typed "#sold". Then, I was asked if I wanted the matching piece for a little discount. There I went again - "#sold". They will send an invoice and you can pay online then pick it up on a Saturday or Sunday 12-5. Pick up can be a little hard to understand because you have to find The Unlabeled Guy (whoever that is) and find your piece. We were able to back the truck up the sidewalk to pick it up once I found The Guy and he confirmed my invoice. The inside is chaotic, with pieces of furniture everywhere. I think they list their nicest pieces online then keep them in the front room until pick up, so I'm guessing their nicer stuff is in the front. Basically everything they have is priced cheaper than any antique store or online seller, with the only exception being maybe an auction. I suggest following them on Instagram and checking it daily, with your #sold fingers ready to go. The good stuff goes quick. I bought another item just last night. IT'S SO EASY. TOO EASY. The peacock wall piece? Yeah, that was me.

After recently moving from Cherokee Street to the Shaw neighborhood, the shop has doubled in size, showcasing all white floors, walls, and gorgeous high ceilings. Julia and Brian, the owners of F/A, are extremely knowledgeable in interior design and both mid century and modern goods, and are so helpful when they are present at the shop. Not only does Future Ancestor have beautiful and unique furniture for your home, the shop also boasts sophisticated handmade goods, modern living essentials, and contemporary jewelry and accessories from makers local and afar! They consistently have new pieces come into the shop, and showcase a lot of their finds on their Instagram, @futureancestor, which is bright, vibrant, and represents their brand beautifully. F/A also recently renovated their website, which is a convenient way to see what they have in the shop and purchase things from your own home. Not I. I bought a new sofa at Ikea late last year. For a small fee (under $40), it was delivered. The restaurant on the third floor was a must-visit, but now food is pricier (everywhere, not just here). Still, maybe it's worthwhile for an old-time experience of sitting sit in a department store eating a warm meal in front of those big windows with views of Midtown and other areas of the city. Room for improvement: I think the store should open a little earlier than 11 a.m. on Sundays.

To our surprise, the opening time has changed to 11 AM. We left and came back at 11. Both of us always enjoy the displays that show you what you can do with specific amounts of square footage. The merchandising team at IKEA are so creative, they make use of every bit of space in their examples. IKEA is a huge store, but you can't get lost. All you gotta do is follow the arrows painted on the floor. They're there from start to finish. They'll lead you through; furniture, accessories, housewares, plants and more. When the arrows lead us through the frames and artwork, we got a giggle that they had copies of the Mona Lisa and Starry Night. My favorite area is the housewares, I can always find something that I need in my kitchen. However, on this visit I found a coat tree for my front foyer in the accent furniture area. It's going to be nice to have something to hand my coat on instead of throwing it on the chair. If you need assistance there's always an associate working nearby. As I shopped, I did notice the prices weren't as low as they use to be, but that is the case almost everywhere. However, it's still a good value.
