My office needed an overhaul. When we moved into our house, painting was not at the top of the To-Do list. In the last couple of years however, I have been working from home more often & the drab colors were really bringing me down. Time to paint & brighten things up! Everyone on the staff I worked with, (Ashleigh, Chelsea, Derek, & Wesley) were incredibly kind, helpful, & professional. Nancy, one of the co-owners came to work with me on color choice. She is a bit pushy & I felt a little pressured to make a decision. I had an idea for color in my head & luckily that's what I ended up with, but I wish I were a little more independent. Cylina, the other co-owner did a couple walk throughs as the project was wrapping up. The contract states that a supervisor will do a complete walk through at the end of the project. Cylina came out the day before the project finished & didn't even fully go into the room. (I had a baby-gate up to keep the dogs out.) I had to call & request another walk through so I could point out some things that needed to be fixed. I feel that had the walk-through been done at the completion of the project as stated, there wouldn't have been a need to call for another. Pricing. Nancy claims that they are. "Hands down, the best painters in the city." The painters are great, I will fully acknowledge & praise them, but they should also state they are pretty much the most expensive painters to hire. I had a couple of different bids I had narrowed it down to; I chose Sisu because I was sold on the promise of impeccable workmanship & professionalism. Yes, my painters were awesome, however, there were 2 return visits to correct some "spots" that didn't look quite right. They were timely, sending the painters back the next day and everything was perfect at the end. In hindsight, I can't pick out anything that made a huge difference compared to others. Both made the same statements for work to be done. Both claim to use high quality paints & tools (which Sisu did). Both have guarantees & warranties. I will say the painters that came were amazing. They were friendly, they asked my opinion as the project progressed, they pet the dogs when they came & went from the house, & they didn't make me feel that awkward feeling g you can get when people are doing things in the next room & you're just hanging out in your house. It was a great experience overall, but with their prices, they should offer discounts on future projects or something to have more repeat customers. I think I may try the other painter for my next room project. Soon I will need the exterior of my entire house done with trim & I know I will not be able to afford Sisu's pricing for such a large project. The painting of one room was nearly $3K. I'm wowed by this company. I just moved to Portland and needed to have the interior of my new condo (which came stark white) painted in some beautiful colors. I was referred to Sisu by someone on NextDoor and reached out. They got back to me very quickly, scheduled an estimator very quickly, and their estimate was fair and very specific. Nancy the owner also gave me a color consult (included with jobs over a certain amount) and that was also super-helpful and moved me away (thankfully) from a couple of OTT colors I had been considering. I was scheduled quickly and Derek and Hector just completed the job in 2 days rather than the 3 they had expected. The result is beautiful and perfectly done. Topher (the estimator), Nancy, Derek and Hector were all super-professional and nice. I'm a Huge Fan!! And I'm looking forward to hiring them again for a future job. read more

Unbelievable! Why unbelievable? Simple, the work provided from the customer service over the phone, to the paint consultations, to the prep work, to the painting itself, and the follow up (making sure everything set just so) has been more than I could ever imagine. The siding on my home is beautiful cedar. However, it was in need of careful TLC. The front door on my home is solid, heavy, original, with intricate tiny hand carvings, but it had a dark stain, hiding the wood's stunning grain and texture. My garage door, as it turns out is also cedar, and a bit rare and valuable according the garage co. who fixed the springs on it recently. Sisu, took painstaking time, in carefully scraping the siding of the house in preparation for painting, as well as 4-5 days chemically stripping, scraping, and sanding the garage door. The garage door ended up being a real project. Apparently, the garage door had never been properly primed, ever. There were layers of old paint, affixed to the garage door, and it did not want to come off! I had a stripping company (tee hee, not that kind) chemically strip the front door. Sisu then carefully sanded the door itself and in all in the teeny tiny hand carvings for days. I then had Sisu stain door with a natural looking choice, and it turned out stunning. We needed the walls in our stairwell painted and wanted it done with a short turnaround time. We're in the middle of the holidays and had been so busy we didn't get around to painting it ourselves. We knew the project was going to take us a long time and the thought of maneuvering a ladder up/down the stairs just wasn't something we wanted to attempt. We went on yelp and requested multiple quotes, prioritizing those who could get us in within our two week window. Sisu responded within the hour. They were one of the first to reply and told us they'd be able to get our project done the following Monday. Big bonus. After a few days, we narrowed our choice down to two options. The other painter we were going to select actually quoted us $100 less, but we went with Sisu for a couple reasons: 1) The volume of reviews (positive ones too) was overwhelming compared to the other painters 2) Loved the idea of supporting a female-owned business 3) The responsiveness of the staff The only reason I'm not giving a 5-star review is because there was a mixup on the day of the project. All my communications and paperwork said the work would happen on Monday, but no one showed up that morning. When my husband called them, he was told the office accidentally informed the painter that the job was for Tuesday. We're pretty flexible and my husband's job allowed him to work from home, so it wasn't too big of a deal, but it is important to note. Had it not been for that, we'd have very well given them a 5-star review. On the day of the paint job, we had Jason as our painter. My husband said he was very friendly and respectful of our space. He answered all of my husband's DIY painting questions. He was very open and willing to giving tips and tricks knowing we were likely to paint the remaining walls in our house ourselves. That said, he did share some enticing offers for the month. If we were planning to paint more spaces, we probably would've seriously considered it. For future painting projects, there's a very good chance we'd be repeat customers of Sisu. This was our first time hiring a painter and Sisu made it a quick, easy process. The customer service I experienced from Ashley was amazing, she was responsive, friendly and always did what she said she would do. After months of dealing with contractors who don't provide bids, or respond to inquires etc. I was pleasantly surprised by Sisu. Every painter who came into our home was respectful, prompt and worked clean and efficiently. They also paid close attention to detail. We had a challenging project, which entailed painting really old wood wainscoting black, which means every blemish would be visible. The team went above and beyond with patching and filling the wood so that the final outcome would look exceptional. This company calls themselves "affordable" yet their quote came out to be 3.5 times higher than the highest of all the other bids I received. I don't know how such prices can be justified. There was not a single part of this process that could have been better. I emailed on a Saturday to get a bid and by Monday morning at 8:15am, one of the owners came to my condo to take measurements and talk through potential colors and sheens. Before the day was over, I received a detailed bid along with a terrific amount of valuable information (licenses, policies, etc.) that put all the confidence in the world in their company. The intermediary steps before painting were great: setting dates, checking a larger swatch of color, and preparing me for the process and what to expect. I was told it would take 2 1/2 days to complete the painting and it took exactly 2 1/2 days. The crew: Hector, Juan and Ashleigh, we on time, professional, took great care with our space and were some of the cleanest painters I've ever witnessed. They were so quiet and professional my neighbors had no clue our space had been painted--and our condo walls are paper thin! The finished work was perfect; cracks were well-prepped and caulked, rough surfaces smoothed and the paint was flawless. We did not take them up on a final walkthru, but we so appreciated they include that as part of their service. While they were not the cheapest bid we received, they were the ones that put us most at ease. Sisu Painting did such incredible work that we would hire them again in a heartbeat. I wrote my original review so that if someone is looking at hiring Sisu, they have my honest perspective about the owners of the company and the reader can take it or leave it. As far as their painters go, they were all very nice guys. Wall paint and cut-ins were good, but there were other problems which we raised with Nancy and Cylina and they are the owners, and if something doesn't go right, you'll be dealing with them directly. Us questioning them seemed to cause the initial trouble. See some of the other comments in the other reviews... all has not been rosy. Maybe I'm the only one who was on the wrong end of their whipping stick who cares enough to be honest and post my opinion. What I write about happened, and I have photos, video, emails, letters, voicemails and invoices to prove it. Last night Nancy posted a reply, which has since been edited, that was decidedly less flattering than the one that is currently posted. Regarding our experience with Sisu, I think of it this way: If you go to a restaurant and get food poisoning, just because the other diners didn't get poisoned doesn't mean you didn't and that you're lying about it. My husband and I started off with three different bids. Have to say Sisu's came in at the best price for the quality. We are very satisfied with how our house looks and have received many compliments. They had a quick and easy way to approve the estimate online and even the contract was all done online. We had them onsite to provide a bid for interior painting. Sisu has a lot of things going well for them including their brand recognition and reputation for quality. While valuable, their services are not for everyone and they are targeted for higher end budgets. We've received 2 additional quotes from 5 star Yelp reviewed companies and their bids came in right around 1/2 the price quoted by Sisu. I was very pleased with Sisu painting. I contracted with Sisu to paint the interior of my townhome. Like others, I had started painting the rooms myself, but eventually decided that because of the layout of my house and the tall two story walls in the entrance that hiring a professional painter would be much easier. I got a couple of bids, and although Sisu's bid was higher, I was impressed with them during the bidding process and I felt they would do a better job. Their customer service was top-notch. Nancy was great in helping me select the colors, and they recommended a high quality paint that looked great. Their crew was fast, efficient, and clean, and they had the job done in under a week. These ladies are amazing! My husband and I hired Sisu Painting to paint our master bedroom, master bathroom (including the existing vanity) and guest bedroom in our 1968 home. Most of the walls in our house were white and the window and door trim was all natural wood as were all the doors. The previous homeowners had painted some walls, but they had chosen very odd colors and they had put wallpaper in the bathroom that was hideous, in my opinion. Nancy and Cylina came to our home to look at our project and help us pick colors. We had an idea of what we wanted, but weren't comfortable picking colors without their expert advice, especially when it came to deciding which colors would look good together. Nancy listened to what we wanted and gave us suggestions that were perfect. She later picked out the colors for our guest room on her own based on what we had told her before. Sisu removed the wallpaper from the bathroom and painted all three rooms, including the wood trim and doors - I was completely amazed by the transformation. I had no idea how much the old colors were affecting me because they were so bold and uncomfortable. The turn around time on the pricing was within a day and they followed up right away with a phone call. During the painting, the crew took great care on protecting everything. For efficiency, they created a paint booth in my garage. Everything was protected and cleaned up after all work was complete. The crew gave me ample notice when they wanted an extra day to redo a couple of areas they felt were not good enough (prior to my walk thru review). I loved working with this company. Every single individual was an absolute professional and very easy and pleasant to work with. Communication and people skills were excellent (not to be taken for granted when dealing with the construction industry) and that was so, so refreshing! Had Sisu over for a interior color consult and interior home painting bid. Overall experience was disappointing and overpriced. The color consult was a serious waste of money. After she left and I had all the paint chips laid out in front of me, all I saw was a bunch of colors representing someone that didn't listen to a word we said. For example, I specifically said I loved the color of the exterior of our home (a grey blue color) but I didn't want that color in the interior. Well she pushed us toward selecting a paint color for our living room and entryway that was almost the exact same color as the exterior of the house. Seriously. I held the paint chip up to the exterior of the house and it was almost indistinguishable. That's a tad too much blue for me but she wouldn't show us any other color options until after she left and we emailed Sisu and said that color is not going to work for us. At least the response was quick to our email but all we got was a list of color names and vague descriptions and we had to go to the local paint store to figure out what color those actually were. If I wanted to go to the paint store and pick out colors myself I wouldn't have hired Sisu to come over and do a color consult. Total waste of time and money. I'm probably just going to hire someone else to redo their shoddy color consult job or just do it myself now. The estimate for the interior painting job was ridiculously over priced. Like I don't know if they were going to be painting with gold paintbrushes or something but no other company bid even half the cost they quoted us. I asked around to make sure I wasn't hallucinating or being unreasonable and everyone else I knew just about did a spit take when they heard the price we were quoted. For all the good reviews on here, I did not expect the high price and mediocre experience we had with them. I will give them credit for being on time and reasonably responsive. It's just too bad their prices are outrageous and their color consult was lack luster. EDIT: I find her response below interesting. I was not "laid out on the sofa" and that she "was told to work with Devon on the color selections" is simply not true. I was starting to get ill at the time (and we were apparently unable to reschedule with them) but I was not unable to participate and I was absolutely involved and present. Not couch bound and feeble as she implies. Both Devon and I followed her as she rushed us around the house and she would only give us a single color choice for each area of the home. If only selecting and pressuring us into a single color choice while not listening to our needs is working "super hard" then I'm not sure she knows what work really is. I'm also not sure what "budget" is she is claiming we were on. We never said we were on a budget or limited in the time she could spend at the house. I would have gladly had her stay longer if it meant not being rushed and getting the colors right. The main living/dining room color was the worst of them all. The other colors I like in that they are not as horrendously awful as painting the interior and exterior of our home the exact same color of blue (which we specifically said we didn't want) but I guess they are tolerable yet still not ideal and will probably be replaced. I thought starting with the first obviously terrible color was a good starting point in fixing things but as you can see our ideal preference was to have her come back out to the house but that never happened. Once again if I wanted to go to the paint store and pick out colors myself I wouldn't have hired Sisu to come over and do a color consult. At this point I'm so further disappointed with them I think it would be easier to invent a time machine, go back in time and tell past me to never call this company than try to resolve any issues with them read more

We had such a fantastic experience with Sisu Painting that we contacted them again to check whether or not they could fix dry wall corner peeling and dog scratches on our door. Both were right up their alley, but after a series of Q&As about the door, Nancy told us about Restor-A-Finish, suggesting that a DIY job might work. It did! Imagine a company that loses $1,000+ by explaining how you don't need to hire them! How many places are that honest? You'll get both an excellent paint job and an honest company if you use Sisu Painting. read more

Doing the 'correct thing', I got three quotes for my interior paint job on my condo and Sisu Painting was not the least expensive but not the most expensive either-so they were in the middle and some people would say, 'go with the least expensive, it's just paint' or 'go with the most expensive, they have to use really high quality paint so you'll get a great outcome.' OK, some of that might have merit but the way the companies that were the least and most expensive approached the project as opposed to the way Nancy approached it was a game-changer as she came over and took the time to explain the importance of texture and other technical terms that only someone in the painting business would know. Therefore when choosing a painting company, I took a look at more that the final quote cause lets face it, when it comes to painting or any type of project, you want to feel good about it and more importantly, you don't want to have to paint again for at least five or ten years. The way Nancy and her painters attend to the small details, I won't have to paint again for at least that long. From the in-home consultation to the final walk-through, everything was done in a very professional manner. After the bill was settled and the job was over, a few days passed when I noticed a minor issue and called Nancy back-Nancy had one of her painters come back and fix the issue within two weeks and that is just a testament to the attention to detail and the passion to get things right; it is unfortunate that you don't always find that same attitude with the 'high priced companies' read more

I am giving out the first four-star rating Sisu Painting has received. With this type of business, people generally give out five stars or one star or don't rate at all. I realize this, but also realize the need for some honesty here. Our experience wasn't perfect. It was, however, better than most experiences we've had with contractors. We picked Sisu based on the near-perfect Yelp rating after contacting three different companies. One was irresponsible and the other just didn't make me feel comfortable with picking them. Sisu came in higher, but I was pretty convinced that they were on the higher end of the painting companies out there. So, we went ahead and picked them to paint most of the inside of our house. We painted most of the upstairs ourselves and hit a point where we didn't know what to do with the colors in the rest of the house. We also knew there was no way we were going to be able to handle painting our two-story living room. So, we just decided to leave the rest of the house to the professionals. A color consultation was obviously very critical in the process for us. Nancy left me feeling a little uncertain about our choices and I didn't think she had the best suggestions when it was all said and done. When the paint started to go on the wall, though, we were pretty happy with it. As muted as the colors looked on the samples, they were just about right on the walls. I don't know that there would be better colors we could have picked or not, but I'm happy with the final colors. There were some missteps along the way, but it is very clear that Nancy and Cylina care a lot about their business and customers. That said, I will just point out our experience. The bid included 7 colors plus trim. We picked out 7 colors, but for some reason received a change order for the chalkboard wall in the powder room. When I asked why there was an extra charge for this, I was told there was no mention of the chalkboard wall when we agreed on the original bid. No, we may not have mentioned it specifically, but we did say two colors in there. The response I received made it seem like they were doing me a favor in removing the extra charge, but the "lack of clarity" was never cleared up. The charge was removed, however. The charge then reappeared in the final bill. I had to tell them again to remove it. Nancy followed up with me recently and explained that the chalkboard paint is harder to work with. The charge was for an extra accent wall (or at least that was the price quoted), and I still think there's a misunderstanding between us, but we weren't charged for it in the end so there isn't much reason to complain about it at this point. There were a couple other management-type blunders, but only one more worth mentioning. They put a sign in our yard without telling us and put pamphlets on everyone else's door. The sign is like saying to our neighbors "Hey! They're the ones that caused you to get junk left on your door!" What if we had an HOA and signs were against the rules? We should have been asked. The work was generally well done. I figure they should do a better job than I do when painting, right? I'm not a professional. There were some areas they did do better in and some they did not. They did a beautiful job of patching the holes in the walls. They did about the same as I did on lines - along the ceiling and between colors. There are quite a few spots that we'll be touching up for awhile to come, though. The job clearly took a bit longer than expected. We got home on Friday night just as the crew was leaving. We weren't told what to expect next, but heard from them again early the next week. It was very clear to us that the crew wanted to leave, and they even admitted to this the next week. Tape was left on the wall in one place, touch up was not done or was poorly done, there were a couple places that didn't get a second coat, they didn't paint a few places they thought we wouldn't see and they did a mediocre job on clean up. I made a list of everything wrong and finally just stopped; I didn't want to sound like I was being too picky. I just picked out the major things and had them fix it. I know they would have done the rest, but it just wasn't worth it. To their credit, they did respond well to the touch-up requests. The final walk-through was pointless, however, as they didn't bring anything to do any touch-up with. I would use Sisu Painting again if they were willing to do work for us, but I would keep in mind that they're contractors. As a rule, you have to stay on top of all contractors or you'll never be happy with the end result. I have no idea how much it should cost to get a house painted, but it was worth it just to have someone else do it. We could have paid less, we could have paid more. I think you'd have to pay about twice as much to see a measurable improvement over Sisu, and it just wouldn't be worth it. read more

They do a great job, but it is very spendy. Had another painter recently do detail work, not walls, and his price was less than 1/2 what Sisu would have charged. It wasn't perfect, but worth the difference in price to me. read more

Wow! I am so happy that we went with Sisu! We had bids from 3 other paint companies, and Sisu's price was not the cheapest, but also not quite the most expensive. We had other contractors working on the house at the same time, as well as weather delays, and family emergencies, and through the whole experience, everyone on the Sisu team was so flexible, understanding, and cooperative. They kept me informed, updated, and included with any schedule changes and decisions. Office staff was understanding when I was rushed out of state for family, and patient with me for returning calls. Additionally, everyone on the team was polite, professional, and tidy. If/when we have more paint jobs for our interior, I won't hesitate to call them first. When painting is done right it can be overlooked, but when it is done sloppy everyone notices. I am an interior designer and am able to recommend many painters.
